| Thanks for the kind words, drakkol...I value your opinion. - JoaoS wrote:
- Love those crazy mushrooms! They're so full of character! Can we get a tutorial? Pleeeeeease?
Joao This isn't much of a tutorial but what the heck. The Mushroom begin life as a cone of either plumber's epoxy or G.S. depending on what I have mixed up or the level of detail/size required; i.e., the G.S. holds detail better & is easier to work with if the Mushroom is going to be small. The cone is stuck onto a cocktail stick or bamboo skewer for larger Mushroom...a drop of crazy/super glue is a good idea. Once on the stick, the edge is squeezed flat & tapered outward. For interest, the cone is gently twisted to give a spiral effect. When dry another bit of putty is made into a cylinder & flattened. this is pressed onto the stick below the cap; pressed against the cap; & twisted into the spiral effect again. Where the stem & cap touch, with a pointed sculpting tool or pin, the stem is pulled into thread-like extensionson to the underside of the cap. That wraps up the Mushroom proper For those that have faces, I drill two hole about 2/3s the way up the cap. into the holes I insert 2mm beads for eyes: An example of the cap next to a completed mushroom with the "eyes" inserted. Now just sculpt the face with Green stuff. For impressive looking teeth/fangs I use the tips from the cocktail tooth picks (not shown here). Here two completed faces. AND to demonstrate that Trees really do have faces: I'd be delighted to answer any questions anyone might have...at least about the Mushrooms & Trees.

| One of the Guys over on D.S.Forum mentioned that "now just sculpt the face" was a bit vague .I always figure that if I can do it ANYONE can do it. SO here's a bit more on the face. Once the eyes are in I do the nose...the nose, of course, is the focal point of the face & the center of the soul...gives you an idea of the proportion of my face occupied by my nose. Again it's a cone shape with a rounded bottom. The point of the cone goes between the eyes. Press the cone gently in place wit the point extending beyond the eyes. divide the point & coax the two sections around to form arches over each eye. Press your pointy sculpting tool into the left & right sides of the rounded part & pull the now flatten part down to form the upper lip. Pinch the nose when it get flatten to keep a thin bridge to the nose. Next roll a sausage of G.S. with tapered end for the lower lip. NOTE if you are adding fangs, drill a couple of shallow hole where the lower lip will be & glue them into place before doing the lower lip. Press the sausage into place curving it up or down for a smile or frown. With the edge of your tool make a depression between the upper & lower lip & press line into the G.S. in the depression to form teeth. Make three small balls of G,S. Press one of the balls under the lower lip & work it into a chin drawing the putty down over the edge of the mushroom cap to the stem. Press each of the other two balls under the eyes. Form the cheeks by working the ball into a crescent under & around the eyes...do some laugh lines on the outside corners of the eye by pressing into the tip of the crescent & drawing the lines away from the eyes. Flatten & pull the lower portion of the crescent down parallel to the nose toward the chin until it forms the outside corners of the lower lip. AND VIOLA you have a face. The same method is used on The Trees...The Trees are slightly easier to do as they're larger & the work surface is flat. Looking at the photos of the completed faces make the description easier to follow, so here's the pic again:

| Great looking stuff you got here. Here's a little tip I discovered how to make realistic looking giant mushrooms. You know those unedible cores that come with whole garlics? Pic I found with google images: Click here! They look a lot like mushroom stems, don't they? All you need to do is make a hat out of putty and paint it. You can even leave the stem unpainted and it looks great. | |

| Thanks again for the kind words...having the Little Horrors received so well is a real motivator. Kaptain, those garlic stems are an EXCELLENT idea. Captain John, my roomy, uses quite a bit of the stuff in his culinary endeavors/experiments...I'll give it a try next time he uses the stuff. - superscenic wrote:

Consumption is probably limited to Goblins of various stripes, & I doubt that they're eating the mushrooms purely for their, the mushrooms that is, nutritional value....it's more for the "Oh wow! The colors" effect. - Paboook wrote:

I've never seen Labyrinth & The Dark Crystal. I guess I got to watch it someday EDIT: Svankmajer is a genies. I love the most his movies Faust and Alice. The bonecreatures in Alice actually fit quit well to Mordheim atmosphere! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWFaR3Gt0jkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gd03-wm6DDM

| That's the best tree yet, looks really twisted and possessed!
I also like your non green-skinned goblins. I'm very traditional in my colour schemes and it's seeing these different takes on things that provides inspiration.

| Wow al, have to join drakkol here, those faces DO remind me of my favorite movie, labyrinth, and now i do recognize the scene too, its the tunnel where they encounter those rockface guys that tell them to turn around. And the last tree you posted is by far the most brilliant one you´ve done so far, congrats, its a masterpiece ( i think its because of the teeth, awseome!).
And thumbs up for those orangy gobbos, finally not green. _________________ Lord Flasheart: And always remember - if you want something, take it! Bobby! Bob Parkhurst: [enters] My lord? Lord Flasheart: I want something. Bob Parkhurst: Take it! [she undoes her shirt - exeunt]

| WOW! That really was a nice reaction! Thanks for the kind words, Guys! I must admit that I'm enjoying this project to the point where the G.Sing is becoming addictive; I'm getting all sorts of truly strange ideas /flash-backs for expanding the theme. Some home grown Squig-like Beasties & a Magic Circle of Petrified Trees...Stoned Hedge...are looming ominously on the horizon...well actually, over in the corner of The Room. | |

Great job on the trees. ...Now that you mention it there are some similarities. I just had a picture of Ash, his car, & a tree dropping from the sky in Army of Darkness.
