| I'm gonna be the meanie here: when I saw the first picture I thought: WHoaw! incredible! but the second and third picture gave me the opposite feeling. It's like all your buildings have but one wall left standing which are incrdibly tilting forward. To me it doesn't look very realistic. it looks like your building are breaking all natural laws of physics. Your skills are supurb but your builds don't look realistic to me and that's a major turn off for me.
Sorry for being the somber tone here but I'm just giving my honest opinion but I repeat: your painting skills are incredibly! I just hoped your buildings looked more like that first picture on all sides, i'm missing some more walls

| Why are you posting these pics? They remind me I should get painting too... Looking good, very good! Great atmosphere, it just screams Mordheim! - Quote :

Well, the game is set in a fantasy world... It's inhabited by Elves, Orcs and Dwarfs (and even stranger ceatures) so I think realism isn't the thing we should worry about... Besides, laws exist to be broken!

| GREAT LOOKING STUFF! It's funny how we all seem to take different views of the same thingies. The wildly leaning building is my ABSOLUTE favorite in the group; i.e., VERY Mordheimy...improbable shapes & attitudes is what typify Mordheim in my mind. VERY WELL DONE! | |

Glad you like it . I would agree that it's my favourite too. I'll have to do something even more special to beat it. - Captain Bernhardt wrote:

It's the low gravity. How else would dwarves weild axes and charge with heavy plate armour at a strength ratio equilivent to earth ants. Yes I will admit it defies physics in terms of a demolished build, but as a complete building, definately feisable using the tudor "jettying" technique. The decision for this style is the how demented mordheim is. The original artwork would imply this to me. The other side to the coin is playability. I don't exactly have minature size hands, so a lot of the build needs to be missing to make it workable, while maintaining the crazy look from certain angles. So yes, I need to mix it up a bit, change how demolished, where the demolished bits are, the angles, and so on, but it's all a learning curve as I go.

| Oddly enough when I saw them all lined up like that I thought something was amiss, its not the fact that its not realistic its just the fact that they all follow the same basic structure/direction. But then again a comet landed and the blast would all come from one focal point so who knows.... I am afraid the only solution is build more When all the buildings are mixed up it wont be noticable and as always its playability that matters. Compared to our necromunda stuff this stuff is just insane. | |

| As much as I think these pieces are highly detailed and very cool looking I would have to agree with a couple of the others that posted. Try your hand at a little different building design. Break it up a bit... they all look alike. Great stuff but not much variety for your city. | |

| Ever the Devil's Advocate, I see a certain similarity in the buildings as a strength...there would be only minor differences in architectural design within a city. Of course, some variation in details & height would add interest to the beasty. | |

Well spoken, I second that! Scenery done in a coherent style gives the board a natural look as if the buildings belong where they are. Adding variation in the desing works (just browse my thread)... - Quote :

I bow my head in defeat... I even postponed undercoating today because I wanted to add more details. More buildings are nearing completion though...

| Has anyone mentioned the floorboards? I love how they seem all warped! Not like the usual plain floorboard in my buildings... How, may I ask, did you get that awesome effect? Just one piece of balsa carved out? | |

| I roughly measure out a rectangle of balsa to fit the desired area, then freehand carve the top surface. Weave the knife about a bit at one angle, then again from the other, and lift out a thin strip.
With the broken boards, just stab the knife through, trying to keep with the grain, and finally with the back of the knife score the hell out of the "planks" so you see a bit of wood grain when dry brushing.
I started trying to match the bottom with the top planks, but then it got too thin, so i'm only doing the top now to speed it up. I had considered trying to cut/score the planks so it appears that boards are joining end to end... but for now i'll just pretend they've found some awesome big trees.
Might experiment a bit more with the next build which i've just started.
Many thanks for all of the comments. very much appreciated! Shall be taking it all on board.
