| *slumps back in, panting for breath* Almost done.... note to self... smaller builds! - Boreas_NL wrote:

That's why i'm trying to stick to one piece at a time so the sheer quantity of painting doesn't become overwhelming Most of the main painting is done, I still need to finish the roof, and the wood, then do some work on finer details, decor, rubble, and parts around the base. Hopefully will finish it up this week when I can grab some time. This weekend vanished! Here are a few more snaps of the paint job so far, with a mini set on for scale. (Excuse the quality, had a lamp shining on it. will get better snaps when I can use natural night... and have more finished) ------------------------------------------------------------ If it is of interest, here's an overview of the painting technique, pretty quick to do and I think brings a realistic feel to it.. quite a few layers, but overall worth it... especially with the building time required. 1. Prime with black acrylic 2. Watered down scorched brown to cover all wood areas 3. Watered down fortress grey heavily dry brushed on the walls, keeping the center bright, and the edges mostly black (this helps to bring out the brighter colours later, and adds another "3D depth" shadow layer) 4. Slightly watered elf flesh, heavy drybrush over walls, again fading from heavy in the center, and lightly at the edges (this is where the dirty, burnt effect comes in) 5. Dry brush skull white over the walls, again heavy center, very light edges. Letting a little of the previous color layer be seen (it should fade nicely from bright, dense white, using the textures walls to pick out detail, blending into the elf flesh, then finally to the dark grey/black edges) 6. Dry brush khemri brown on all the wood, if it comes out a little patchy on the floor boards, I think it's fine, adds a more realistic wood irregularity feel. (Sometimes 2 layers work well, a first very roughly, brightening up the undercoat, then more accurate brushing to pickout highlights and angles) 7. Very very lightly highlight parts of the wood with a skull white drybrush (though this can be left out...) 8. Drybrush the roof with fortress grey (still trying to perfect this step.. the moss added after helps to disguise the terrible painting) 9. Stain a little of the roof in patches with devlan mud wash (dirty rain, comet dush, ash or some such) Done.

| Would you mind sharing with me how you are basing the buildings with a stone/cobblestone look? I've got everything down except that part. Thank you much! | |

| Thank you, thank you, thank you Didn't get any more done last night or this morning, decided to start carving some insulation foam for the next base instead... thinking I might try crafting some small tables, benches, kegs and other taverny goodness.. we shall see - dragonwhelp wrote:

It's just 2" thick loft insulation foam, then carved with a sharp scalpel.. no real technique, just hack away and let it form naturally.. time consuming but easy. Coat it sparsely with filler to create a rougher texture, then paint.

Haven't found the mood to finish the painting or basing, but here is a little something I knocked together while idly watching tv.. two little tables. Very easy, and I must admit, quite fun I have a few clumps of debris on the base, waiting for the glue to dry, but I might do a few more "inn-ventory" (excuse the terrible pun) items in the mean time.

| wooh! the little tables are quite cool! these little details bring the whole building to life! I think I'll be adding a few of these to my tavern. Could you share mesurements on the tables mate? or at least take a picture with a mini on one side to mesure the proportions?
great stuff! | |

| *holds out his fingers and squints his eyes* errmmmm they're about this big.... The table top comes to around a mini's waist. I was going to take a snap with one there, but i'm rather ashamed of my painting skills, or lack of. I'll compromise and borrow one or more from a friend and take a load of snaps when the entire thing is complete... quite tempted to order some bits from Ackland Accessories ( Black Tree Design Store) rather than hand crafting... and i've seem some awesome villagers from Hassle Free which could be fun... then again, you wouldn't exactly find bar staff hanging around inside mordheim. *runs off to carve more tables and benches* | |

| I think your tables are great, I wouldn't change them for pre-made stuff If you want some villagers and a Bar staff,, you could buy all those minis and paint them like ghosts... just primed white and some bluish wash paint/ink or something.. I dunno xD! | |

| VERY COOL RUSTIC LOOKING TABLES; much better than any of the store bought variety AND uniquely your own...gives you something to do during commercials also. - XIII wrote:

*runs off to carve more tables and benches* My own taverns/houses of easier virtue, Fast Flo's, Wicked Wanda's, et al, are fully staffed by folk who are too bloody minded to be scared off by mere comets & demons...it's best to pay up your tab promptly. They figure largely in my Bar Wars solo games.

| *sets down his minature axe and walks back in* As promised here are a few more "inn-ventory" items, along with some minis for scale comparison (thanks for the lend!) I'm considering mounting a few shelves on the walls, and just buying some barrels and setting them on keg stands, and other such tavern items, but we shall see... Still working on the base... I may have gone a bit overboard with moss and grass.. trying to dull it all down and kill it off a bit. Also still have to craft the tavern sign. This project is taking a lot longer than originally anticipated, but i'm very happy how it is turing out so far. Comments, and criticisms welcomed as always. Many thanks! | |

| They look as if blood and giant tsunamis of kegs were spilled over the tables, chairs and benches over decades before the comet hit. Great job!!! The barrels will do wonders to the inn as well. Have you decided about the name for the inn? I am still pushing for "The Smoking Herring" | |
