| Ah, great updates! I really love your buildings, the textures and shapes look super realistic.
Also, great to see the Grendel carpets fully painted. I have a set of those (and even a model that will go as a carpet seller), so this is good motivation to get mine painted too!

Which mini are you using? I saw another Arabian Merchant type the other day, but now I can't remember where... @Alan--Thanks again. Next I think I will attempt the fountain.

| A little update on a new building: Top view of the various levels. The basic building is packaging foam with a foamcore poster for roofs and pink foam stairs. I have been adding brown paper to the interior walls to give a bit more stability. I also covered the base with paper to keep the foam from chipping. Photos by playtable. | |

| Another update! Instead of finishing the most recent project, I restarted another. Back in 2010 I decided to have a campaign span the settings of Sartosa, Relics and Khemri. And the part of Araby we were going to need to represent was the city of Al-Haikk. So I started unpacking the white packaging foam I had collected with an eye to things that could become an Arabian city. I wanted one of those covered walkways between houses. So I took a big piece of packaging (roughly 2' by 1'-6"). I started with two separate buildings with an wall on three sides and a walkway between the buildings. Naturally I didn't wait for it to be finished before dragging it to games: Playtable complained because the unpainted styrofoam ruined his photos. So I coated it with some acrylic paint mixed with artists gesso. The building stayed like this for several years. It was hard to transport, hard to play with and hard to store for that matter. I had big plans, but I was always waiting for a bit or some more glue or something. At some point players complained about the high wall, so I cut it down and added two more gates. The piece also got a coat of light gray elastomeric after the alterations. More time passed... Anyway lately I have been renovating the collection and playtable suggested I do SOMETHING with the monstrosity. So I did some cutting and pasting and stuff. I cut it nearly in half. Thrown into games unfinished, again! The other half. The word for this week is mashrabiya . **Bonus points for folks who can identify the WIP versions and previous incarnations of scenery posted on the previous pages. | |

| The packaging foam really makes for some EXCELLENT pieces...with a healthy dose of imagination & talent that is. Even the underlying texture enhances the Arabian motif. GREAT WORK on a WONDERFUL setting! | |

| Thanks for the kind comments Al. I'm having a great time, although I'm not sure if I'll ever finish a piece completely. Last night I was looking at the buildings thinking that if I carved a tunnel through the wall that supports the stairs, it would look more interesting and I could avoid extending the base to add a small set of stairs on one end... | |

| While something inside me says that planning is a necessary part of the creative process, I've found that "going with the flow" spontaneity works the best for moi. AND interesting is the way to go!

| Thank you for the kind words gents. @Deafnala--I went for interesting. And while the texture was drying another building caught my eye... So now I have experimented with magnetic tape and have my first minaret in progress. - cuchulain23 wrote:

Yes it does. With flat roofs, parapets and lots of exterior stairs, the buildings are pretty playable even without the option to explore the interiors.

| Looks great I could imagine a large fabric dyeing operation on one of the roofs. I think a little row of balsa wood supports would look good. | |
