| Git Shorty11th February the year of the Earth Ox, Surprise Attack at The Merchant’s Guildhouse Accompanied by the wizard Mr Book, the Underminers made an expedition into the Gloomwyrm’s territory but the Dwarfs spread themselves out too thinly. The Orcs made a concentrated attack against a few of the Dwarfs as they searched the ruins. ± Fa the Goblin charged an Orc and got battered for his efforts. Droo-Ling charged a Dwarf Troll Slayer, stunned him then finished him off with a stamp. Kang the Goblin went a bit loopy and charged a Dwarf who was hiding in the ruined warehouse, he took the hairy one by surprise and knocked him out with his bamboo whacking staff. Tricky Tarka engulfed two Dwarf Thunderers in Gork’s Fire and took one out. Yu-Dan, Li-Ping and Gang-wai charged first a Troll Slayer (Yu-Dan knocked him down and Li-Ping slammed his great mace into his head) and then a Dwarf Henchman (who Yu-Dan impaled with his glittering jeweled sword). The Underminers fled before most of their comrades (and Mr Book) had a chance to get to the location of the ambush. ± | |

- Worst one yet. No doubt about it.
Another crippling defeat, another embarrassing rout, And we don't even need to know, how it came about, For these defeats are so common now, as to need no elaboration, We already know that when the farmers fight, it will end in tribulation,
And yes dear reader we are aware, that this poem is getting worse, Where before there was beautifully thought out prose, there is now just sloppy verse, The stanzas no longer make any sense, it's as though they've been written by a child, And the drama has gone from being epic and visceral, to being meek and shallow and mild,
Oh woe is us that write this terrible saga, filled with nothing but defeat, And it's surprising that in a poem about goats, we've not yet used the word 'bleat', Come to think of it we've never yet talked, about wool or baaing or fluff, Or not once even tried to reference, the Three Billy Goats Gruff,
But enough of that talk, there are tales to be told, Tales of high misadventure, and of heroes great and bold, But that dear readers will have to wait, until another night, For the Blackhorns in all their stupendous ignorance, have not recently won a fight,

| Street Fighter11th February the year of the Earth Ox, Street Fight at the Buccaneer’s Blade Inn The Gloomwyrms and the Albanian Barbarians tried to fight their way through each other along a narrow street leading to the Buccaneer’s Blade Inn. ± The Eastern Pirate Orcs charged en masse down the street but Tricky Tarka spotted a couple of Barbarians high on the wall above them and to their left. With a shouted command he sent the goblins of the Flying Daggers scampering up ladders to block the loin-clothed ones’ way. On their right the Albanian Shaman leapt from rooftop to rooftop, deftly striding across the loose tiles. Pig-Xi and Li-Ping cut right to run through the ruins below the Shaman, worried that he would lead a party of Barbarians past them. Luckily for the Gloomwyrms the Shaman misjudged how safe the tiles were and he pitched off the roof, fell into the attic room and knocked himself out. Droo-Ling the Troll droned a Morkist chant and lumbered forward, the pirates ran along just behind him but Yu-Dan cast Cloud Trapeze and flew over their heads. He landed behind the Barbarians’ front lines but right in front of their second line! The northerners charged the plucky Orc Hero and cut him down. Both the goblins were pitched off the walkway by the charging Albanians! The rest of the Gloomwyrms were infuriated by this and charged, crashing through the Barbarians and hacking them to the ground. Sling stones and arrows thudded into the Orcs however and the greenskins fell back when Tricky Tarka’s nerve broke. The Albanian Barbarians took control of the Buccaneer’s Blade Inn from the Eastern Pirates. | |

| The Raiders of the Lost Waaagh12th February the year of the Earth Ox, Surprise Attack at Unlucky Quay The Gloomwyrms were ambushed by the Lost Waaagh as the pirates tried to loot the Unlucky Quay. ± As a small handful of Cathayan Orc Pirates searched the ruins, they were all too aware that they were spread out and vulnerable, so Pig-Xi and Pa-lai stayed high up and watched the surrounding streets with crossbows at the ready. The area was in the control of the savage Orcs of the Lost Waaagh and the easterners knew it. With a roar of nearly two-dozen harsh voices the Cave Orcs appeared in a crowd and charged towards the Pie Shop where Pig-Xi stood look-out. The Flying Dagger goblins made a lot of noise and drew off a couple of Cave Orcs but the bulk of them came right on. Crossbow bolts found their mark and one or two Savages went down but nothing was going to stop the mob. When Tricky Tarka and the rest of the Gloomwyrms finally arrived they only managed to help the survivors escape. About equal numbers of casualties were suffered by both sides so a clear winner of the engagement could not be determined. ± | |

- 17th February 2010
Another dark and cold night Pickled Mariner Tavern in Cheapside and the three wizards were once more gathered round the fire. Their spirits were higher than usual; several rounds of drinks had already been consumed.
“Well Mr Candle, Mr Bell,” said the black-robed Mr Book, “a more encouraging week than we’ve had since arriving in this smuggler-ridden city!” the others nodded enthusiastically.
“Yes, yes, as expected the Skaven showed a lot of promise – our skirmish against the you and the Dwarfs was most enlightening and productive!” said Mr Bell to Mr Book.
“The Beastmen I accompanied were also very informative.” said Mr Candle “I believe our research will be well served by our time here, there is much that can be discovered through direct observation that no amount of reading the work of others will reveal.”
~ ~ ~
This week the wizards will be trying to tempt the following warbands back onto the streets: Mr Bell will be joining The Crook'd Dubloons (Mark) Mr Book will be joining IroNick's Dwarfs (Nick) Mr Candle will be joining Rohern's Cheery Woodfolk (Richard)

| The Serpent-Dragon of Twilight comes to the West
Metal Tiger, Hidden Dragon 16th February the year of the Metal Tiger, Cathay Town
The night air was filled with noise and smoke. Firecrackers rattled and banged in great rolling volleys, sending the milling crowds running aside as they broke up and jumped across the streets. Glowing paper lanterns bobbed along on poles, held aloft by the smiling residents of Cathay Town. They illuminated the snaking fabric dragon costume that danced and leapt as the bearers beneath it ran along, accompanied by cymbals and drums.
±
On a tower overlooking the rooftops of Cathay Town, Tricky Tarka watched a hundred sky-fire lanterns float away on the gentle sea breeze; the heat from the flames inside their red paper walls lifted them into the heavens.
Without turning away from the view he asked the four large Orc pirates sat around him “Is everyone agreed?” he turned and looked at each in turn “Does anyone doubt it is him?”
The Orcs shuffled uncomfortably and glanced at each other sideways. None of them was going to argue with the Shaman, even if they had doubts: He was the Boss now and that was that. They all nodded and mumbled their assent.
“Right then, we’ll get him to join the crew as soon as we can and we’ll help him remember his past life.” said Tricky. The Shaman was suddenly animated and energetic, as if the New Year celebrations had only just affected him. After he left the balcony the rest of the Gloomwyrms relaxed visibly, bottles started appearing from hidden corners and soon a rowdy conversation had sprung up.
“Let’s get really drunk” said Pig-Xi and there was no argument.

| WEEK 7 (and '7.5'!) RESULTSI've yet to receive updated warband ratings from Dazza or Richard but... IF YOU'RE INTERESTED... The most fought-over locations are now Hangman's Square and The Boarding Party Inn. The most successful warband is still The Lost Waaagh!band with a 70% win rate. The estimated campaign result is now a win for Raziel's Court, with Papa Jingle's Circus and The Lost Waaagh!band hot on his heels. @ Mark, Nick and Richard - I'm afraid your territories will revert to being uncontrolled unless you can get in to defend them this week. (You're still very much part of the campaign, it's just a bit unfair if people can't fight for their bonus locations.) | |

- After abandoning The Ropewalks due to a vermin infestation, Papa Jingle decided to hold auditions for a new strongman. However as the barbarians were busy oiling themselves up in preparation a certain shall we say 'expired' aroma filled the air and shambling forms were spotted in the shadows.
Now you may think that convulsing might of Raziel's Court would be enough to contend with, but their rotten odour seemingly had attracted yet more squeaking scurrying fur balls from the Ropewalks. A deal was settled, the Circus and barbarians would have to join forces if they had any hope of beating back their grizzly visitors.
The plan was a good one, the muscle bound heroes would greet the court head on whilst the circus would divide, with half of the performers picking off the enemy from afar and the others taking on the vermin before their numbers became too great. It was working too until the Skaven sorcerer magically stunned 5 of circus in a single combat and looked set to finish them off with yet more rodents scurrying to join the fray, Fortune was on Papa Jingle's side though as the invaders bottle failed and the streets cleared of the foul miscreants as quickly as they had arrived.
Victory was ours!

Following those minor skirmishes a big fight ensued with the Circus and Barbarians ambushing the Rats and the Court while they were jointly plundering the Sarky Cutter. Lots of blood was spilled by both sides, but the Skavens and Undead routed first, leaving the barbarians in control of the Sarky Cutter!
Guys, correct if I put down anything wrong!
My new WBR is 316 (which should give me a nice 105 CS).

| The Underminers - The Beanbag wrote:
- Day 4 in the Month of the Warmonger
The immediate locale smelled of mushrooms and old beggars coats but it wasn't as cold as it had been in the past few days so the dwarfs tolerated the streets they found themselves in. Those streets happened to belong to the bloated ranks of the orcs that had settled uncomfortably easily in Vercuso and they didn't take long to show themselves as the Underminers prepared to hold them at bay. If they broke through the treasures that the dwarfs had found and were hoping to cart off would be lost - unthinkable against the dirty greenskins! Things started well as crossbow bolts flew and tempers flared, both slowing the orcs in different ways.
Happy the Troll Slayer raced across the open ground by the gallows to close the distance on a curiously alone squabbling orc and crashed into the confused savage. In a flurry of hate-fuelled blows the greenskin fell and with dark gore dripping from his freshly cropped mohawk he charged towards two more straggling orcs.
The crossbow fire was proving again ineffectual as the bolts found nothing but rawhide to lodge in and the orcs, finally rid of tempting targets to charge into, pressed forwards to their goal.
Then Grumpy's pistols found their mark and with a crack that echoed off the walls of the prison tower lead shot sank deep into Uhg-ug-ugg's chest flooring the badly dressed orc boss right there. With so many orcs still swarming the streets they held, and after Happy took a club to the head and the beardlings fell in quick succession the dwarfs beat a (not so) hasty retreat.
Again. | |
