- clever.. very clever.. that looks like something I would like to do for upcoming projects!
thanks for the "step by step" tutorial mate! awesome!
No thanks, it was quite fun creating the tutorial... Just give it a try, it's not that hard, it doens't take that much time and the results can be real nice. I've made these shutter for four of my buildings and intend to add them to all of them. - Quote :
- If the bars are also plaster, I would leave them as they are. It looks good.
- Quote :
- I like the height of the bars, keep 'em! Great stuff as always!
Thanks... After some serious casting (somehow I'm almost out of blocks and pieces, the test piece was actually constructed with the very last of my dwindling supply) I will build a few pieces and paint them up. Probabely sometime during the weekend. - Quote :
- If you have any resin you could cast the bars and then before they were totally set you could demold them and bend them into contorted shapes to look like something really strong bent them. That would make for some easy entry points into the walled off section.
Sound suggestion, but using resin can be quite bad for your molds... If I was to use resin, I could make an even more detailed fence using another mold. The Graveyard mold from Hirstarts has a really nice piece of fence exactly the same size... Unfortunately it's so delicate that it's very hard to cast in plaster. Maybe time to try it again (and again and again...) The addition of a ruined fence is something I will remember, thanks for the suggesion.

| After some carefull thought I decided to forgo the plaster fence and create my own using some plastic rods and strips... Together with the plaster fence, clearly showing the difference. Below are two new tests (both without glue) and the old one to refresh your memory... See if you can spot the difference. It's more durable (doesn't break into a thousand pieces when accidentaly dropped), can be easily customised to fit different situations and it looks better too... Maybe a little more detailing, but otherwise it's done. Your feedback is greatly appreciated, so please let me know what you think! | |

| Indeed, the ones made with plastic bits look a lot better, more finely detailed, the molded ones are to rough.
Nicely done! | |

| Your new fence looks awesome! I actually liked the first one too, but this new one look many times cooler. Very cool! How did you do the ... erm.. barb/spike/"end thingy"? | |

Thanks, both of you... That was quick! I will do a little tutorial on the fence

| I missed this one...missing things is a talent I've been developing lately . Your plastic version of the iron fencing is a DECIDED IMPROVEMENT...plastic rods, tubes, & strips are TERRIFIC bits. NICE WORK! | |

| I agree that the plastic fence is much better than the plaster one - it simply looks more like iron bars.
I never would have thought to mash and cut the tops like that to make the points and would have quickly exhausted my supply of spear-tips making something that looks far less attractive. Very good idea and excellent execution!
Now, what happens if a model fails its climbing test on a spiked fence like that one?

| I like the new version as well. The joints just look much more defined. Plaster is great for blocks that are confined but the fence creases really don't come out clear. However, I think they still have a use for old rusty gates. | |

The word shis-kebab comes to mind... Making these plastic fences is quite easy and a lot of fun to do (as is making a tutorial). As promised, here's a simple step by step guide for making them. Step 1: Gathering equipment and materials... Good results start with good materials! Hobby knife, ruler, a pair of pliers and a pen. Plastic rod and plastic strip (both 1.5 mm). And, very important, super glue! Cut the plastic to the right size. For this type of fence I used four strips of 1 inch and five 2 inch rods. Step 2: Shaping the bars of the fence... Use a smooths pair of pliers to flatten the top of the plastic rod. Cut into an arrow shape with a hobby knife. Step 3: Assembling the fence... Divide the strip so the five bars have an equal distance to eachother. Glue the bars with the middle one being the tallest and the outer ones being the shortest. Attach the remaining strips and cut the bars to size. Step 4: Detailing... I added these little rivets as extra detail... And the finished product... As you can see, the first piece is finished... Quite happy with the result. My board could do with some obstacles and it keeps in line with the style of the city. Your feedback is greatly appreciated, so please let me know what you think...

| Complete and utter crap!
Not really, but I couldn't think of anything nice that I hadn't already said!
Enough building, already - let's see some more finished pieces!

| Easy to make, looks great, and it would inflict or cause lots of pain if somebody trips over the fence! Thanks for the small tutorial! | |

| Very nice. You could use a candle to heat bend the fence. The plastic looks much better.
I'd like you to put together a little guide, please, on the dimensions you use for the wall sides and railings. I really like the modular like look your designs have and I'd like to start on some of my own buildings using yours as a guide.

| Nice one! Big big improvement with the fence... and finally I know your secret of fiddly tiny bits... a needle/pin! Ah ha! Small details beware!!! I would usually end up with more glue on myself than on the build and small parts sticking to fingers. Common sense would be a nice thing. Amazing work as always, now deflate your head and lets see some painting | |

| Wooohhhh!!
I see what you did there... looks great! those shields are a great addition! it matches the whole table's mood! But I think that what I like the most, is that you made the fence so that you can use it anywhere in the gaming table, you can use it to surround a building, or an specific zone and anywhere you decide to put it the fence still matches the environment!
nicely done mate! | |

| my wish is your command, you say?
the shields looks great on the fences. this table is one of the best ive ever seen. when it comes to the painting it looks really clean and nice but id like to se some grime and staining on it. one way to make stone look more like rock and less like concrete it to basecoat it in brows and other natural colours and then go to town with the purer greys. you can then use watered down brons and black to paint staining and filth. its a great way to add contrasts to models.
i like the use of the old heroquest tomb. how much does this set wheigh? it looks heavy!
keep it up! | |
