Tortuga Inspired Buildings, Finished & WIP

Nice work, mate! Another fellow engineer takes to the modeling exercise for stress relief! Good deal. I really like what you are doing here with these, and I was telling Arrgberg that your stuff was really good. I am using the same techniques to model a village that has a Middle Eastern flair:

I have not resorted to building furnature for my buildings yet, but I am curious about the flooring. What did you use to make it? It almost looks like the painted backside of pressboard (and perhaps I am right?).

I have been experimenting with the corners of my buildings, and I am figuring our the "rabbit" technique. I make a vertical cut along the backside of one corner, then I cut along the inner edge. I do not cut all the way through, though. This allows me to remove enough material so a piece of foamboard snugs up to the wall without the ugly seam that I had to slop spackle over. Do you use a similar technique? I got it from the Major General's page here:

Ah! Playtable, you are making me sad. Why did we have to move? How come since I move you make as these great Pirate Terrain? That is not fair.

Hopefully, one day we will be back to the Circle City area and when we do I can match up your terrain, Von Kurst and mine.

Good idea Mordheimer. Although I've never even concidered selling anything. I'm a hunter-gatherer.
I think I'll try a quick build to experiment on.

Thanks for the words, your first buildings look very good. My suggestion to you is to use dry spackle and mix it as you need it. The premixed always cracks a lot. Plus, I don't use but a real thin coat. Just enough to give it texture.
You are right about the floor. It's just the rough side of 1/8" hardboard.
Corner wise, I just try to cut straight and clean and butt the ends.
Maybe I'll see you in Chicago in July at Games Day, if you go.

I would say you filled the void and some. Did you ever finish the Lustria bridge project that you helped me start but I never finished and gave to you before I moved?

For a visual clue it was being designed to be just like the Lustria bridge scenario that came out in the WD back in 2005.

When you move back, see if you can get a place with an extra room to rent out to some disreputable old man ...will paint/model/build for shelter.

Strange as it may sound, those are 1/8" brass compression ferrules from plumbing tube fittings. I thought they looked cool. I didn't even bother to paint them.

Depends on work. That is the first scheduled 40 hr week of the season for me. Usually I don't bother anymore because of cost.
