| It has been a while since I did my last building. I spent the last year with my Imperial Guard army. Although I still have a few (100) more to paint, buildings must be built! Inspired by the awesome Tortuga table done by -I just don't know- I have more buildings to template off of and build for our Sartosa campaign setting. Up next is the Officer's Club. Or, Officer's Saw Club. Or, the One Hand Club. I haven't decided on the right name yet. Here is the first part I did. Ground level. The left side will be the kitchen. This is the next thing I did. Not so proud of this part. Saw fight, I routed 1st chance I got, saw won. Lousy exploration phase. Took me OOA and have to miss D3 games. But one handed, I must continue on. After a few other goofs, the 2nd floor. Go ahead and try to cut foam core with one hand! </A> And the 3rd floor. </A> And a few parting shots. Must get back to build more. </A> </A> </A> | |

| You're doing better one-handed than most of us do with two. That's a very cool start...lots of possibilities & interesting feature to the Beasty. Keep up the SPLENDID work & get well soon. | |

| I'm not sure how much farther I can go one-handed.
I just tried to do a railing and it was a no go, so far.

| DeafNala & WarbossKurgan: I did not loose much and most should grow back (I hope). Anyway, the massive 3-sided walkway and railing is a real pain in the hand. The hard part. </A></A> Walkway. </A> Stairs. </A> </A> Next up is the railings. Oh boy! I've started them but not sure how I'll finish the build of them yet. Plan ahead, hah! | |

| Man, that's really depressing. I am building some pirate town buildings, too, but I got two healthy hands and it looks so much worse Great work, and good to see the town growing!! | |

| This looks really great, even better considering you are doing it with a bum hand (though I see the ace bandage is getting plenty of wear and tear Quick question, did you buy the stair supports like that or did you buy them that way. Fantastic once again | |

| oldschoolgameroo: The stair stringers are hand cut.
And, I now have 3 individual finger bandages. Wheeee.
I also used my table saw for the first time again tonight and it scared the crud out of me.
I know, healthy fear.
Railing is done, picture soon.

| Bimbi: Yes, the "Tortuga Inspired Buildings, Finished & WIP" thread in the finished terrain section is mine also. Borrow all the ideas you like. The walkway and railings are massive but done. </A> I had hoped to make this big enough for an ogre's 40mm base but I did not plan well enough in advance. For the curious, the shiny "nails" are shortened straight pins. Holes are pre-drilled most of the way with a pin vice. I also glue the railings too. | |

| That is an INCREDIBLE piece of work. Having gotten used to making ruins, your pieces bring back just how much more is involved with making intact structures. Keep up the FINE WORK & the healing process. | |

| All your Tortuga inspired buildings are fantastic. I love the little window shots of everything really gives us a glimpse into what the warriors see as they are running about.
This current one looks to be another huge success.
Just be careful with your one hand as I'm sure your doctor would be pretty pissed off if you go back asking him to sew your thumb back on!

| Great progress. I'm amazed at how well you work one handed and under the influence of pain killers.
What does the old officer's club become?
Governor's mansion? | |

Governor's mansion? Just Advil now and then. That was the NCO club. Non-Commisioned Officer= Sgts., Corporals, etc. (Angry Squig bar & Trophy Room game room) Privates don't get a club. Governor's mansion is another building not yet designed.

| OK, construction for this is comming to an end. I wanted a chimney for this one but didn't want it snapped off easily when the floors were off. So...I made it in 3 pieces, one section for each floor that nest inside each other for alignment. </A> Boy was that 2nd floor hard to do. Here is the assembled picture. </A> As you can see, I've stained all the wood work. </A> Here is the roof framework. It just drops down inside and rests on top of the short side walls. </A> That's as far as I will get today. Tomorrow I plan to glue on the purchased roof tiles, and do something to the 2nd floor's floor. </A> | |

I just brushed on 'Minwax' brand, 'Early American' stain and let it soak in. The hard part is in assembly, not getting glue on the exposed wood. Stain will not soak through the glue. AND, on another note. The roof tile stuff is glued on and very lazy me just penciled on some wood plank lines that I started last night on the 2nd floor's floor. Then, I just finished giving the walls a very thin coat of watered down plaster. Just enough to give that stuco look without any real thickness.

| Here is the first coat of paint. I'm thinking of roughing it up some with more exposed bricks than I have now. (Hard to see any bricks with it all one color right now.) I just never know how much of that to do. I have a real problem with "random". </A> | |

| It's looking more impressive with each new post. I can't spot the exposed brickwork from the photos. Exposed bricks/timbers, webs of cracks, et al, those are favorites with moi; they add a lot of visual interest to a piece. I work from the opposite direction...random/impromptu/ad lib are my things...plans are thing to stray from. | |

| For all: Hand is better. I can even get it wet now, just not much. Well, the can rusted out and was thrown away lasy year and I lost the formula for the paint color I was using. I am forced to use a very close but lighter shade. I hope I can darken it just right to match the other buildings. Here is a picture of the clean outside with the exposed bricks started. Devil is in the details and there are more to do. </A> Here is the 2nd floor's floor. Just foam core with pencil lines drawn into it to make a very simple wooden plank look. Painted dark brown with an orange-brown heavy dry brush. </A> I hope with furniture inside you won't notice the floor too much. I saw a picture of an upright piano that some site sells. It looked awesome. Since I don't wish to pay for shipping I am building my own. It won't be as cool but it is turning out just fine. I will have a picture of it as soon as my camera batteries recharge tomorrow. | |
