| Thank you gents! @qboid--Holy IV advanced in Leadership. Thus he pressed forward toward a greater reward in every game. Generally Hired Swords really earn their upkeep in my warbands. @Alan--between playtable and I anyway. Bob, Chris and Andrew don't name their henchmen (or in the case of Holy IV, number their henchmen), so they don't compete. @SerialMoM--The bar is playtable's first multi-story building with furniture. He made the building entirely out of wood: walls, stairs, railings and tables. The rest of the furniture comes from Warhammer Quest games. - Deafnala wrote:

Too late! ____________________________________________________________________________________ The Tale of the Copycat SmugglersAndrew suggests a scenario for Bob to choose when playing the Faithful... The Ghutani learned that the Unpainted had stolen a ship with the intention of using it to smuggle a treasure out of the City. Once again the Ghutani staked out the harbor. Their errand was even more futile than their first attempt. Only Morrslieb shown faintly in the night sky. The Faithful crept slowly through the darkness guided only by the smell of the harbor and the rough walls around them. Emir Haroum led from the front to guide his warriors toward the boisterous sounds of the grayskins moving in the night. Then disaster struck the Emir was hit by a fiery missile out of the night! Costly robes burst into flame. The Emir fell stunned to the ground! The tribe rushed to help him.
Before the Emir could be dragged to safety, more missiles fell upon the Faithful. The Scholar began to burn nearly as brightly as the Emir! The hired slaver burst into flames as well. Before anyone could aide him, the slaver was consumed! As the Tribe put out the flames consuming their leaders, the brutal Unpainted rushed out of the darkness to strike more warriors to the ground! The mamluk Hassan was consumed by green flames. All of the Faithful knew that the Ugga Booga the Albino lurked in the night. The Unpainted move out from their ruined hideout. Their hired warlock summons the Flaming Sword (fire marker). The stolen ship enters. The Emir leads the Faithful into the darkness (5 inch range of vision for humans, 11 inches for Orcs). Emir Haroum in flames! The Djinni Binder burns. Haroum crawls for safety. Orcs attack out the dark! The Orcs stolen ship reaches the dock. Post Battle The Faithful lost the Slaver hired sword and the mamluk, Hassan, killed in action. Another Holy Man (Holy V) returns a favor. The Faithful buy torches, armor and halberds. Fight me in the dark again! The Unpainted lose one boy of some type killed. They gain gold, a Whalebone Charm and a Badge of the Free Traders as well. Things learned... Fire Arrows are a only enough for one game item (2002 Annual, p.87). Since I am the Keeper of the Rules we tend to play by the rules as I know them until I have to look something up. This weeks surprise was Fire Arrows. I never bought the 2002 Annual because by looking at the table of contents all I saw was another printing of rules I already had in Town Cryers. But on Thursday I didn't have the rules for fire arrows with me and neither did Bob so playtable had to produce his Annual... Black Spot for Bob.

| " WAIT UNTIL NEXT TIME!" could become your battle cry; with the substitution of "Year" for "Time", it worked out for the Brooklyn Dodgers...sort of. At any rate you looked better in defeat that your opponent did in victory...there should be style points included in the scenarios. | |

| Thanks guys. @Al--We used to award extra treasure to painted warbands when they played against unpainted models, but then the 'tournament crowd' asked me define 'painted', which disgusted me so much I gave up. (The current tournament crowd does include some of the best painters in town, but they no longer play Mordheim.) @qboid--I haven't played my orcs in years, but back when I did everyone would try to kill my troll with fire attacks (we play by the Black Orc rules that the troll can be killed by fire). No one ever succeeded. I finally figured out why we had been playing Fire Arrows as 'last for the campaign." The Relics of the Crusades campaign has its own Miscellaneous Equipment list and I had copied those rules for Arabyan campaigns. The Relics Fire Arrow rules are NOT the official Fire Arrow rules. They wrote their own version and I didn't notice. ____________________________________________________________________________________ The Wizard's MansionA three player struggle between the Cathayans, Lhamians and Slavers The fight took place during the day. Some one startled the noonday crowd. The Slavers are (naturally) stomped into the dusty streets. The Flying Blood Sister fights two Caravan Guards. Reinforcements rush to the scene. The Ancient One battles two Cathayan riders. One of whom is stunned... More warriors pile in. Cathayan firing line. The Arabyan Maneater confronts the Silver Pony. Post Battle The game ended as a draw by Store Closing. The Lhamians gained a Lucky Charm. The Cathayans report a Martial Artist killed. - Jim L wrote:

| Thanks Alan. I admit I don't like not using this terrain. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Week Eight--An Ambush in the Arabyan QuarterBob--The Unpainted (Savage Orcs) Chris--Lhamian Vampyres (Khemri) Jim L (playtable)--The Kalibon Manpower Exchange II (Relics Slavers) - Jim L aka playtable wrote:
Both Chris and Bob rolled to make the location the Thieves; Quarters but I won the roll with a 3! Day time. [My choice, I was 312 and Chris was 314 (Bob more)…both of them could see in dark 6” more than me, so I went with daytime even though Bob shoots very well.]
Weather was HOT but changed to HOT AS HADES after an event was rolled. Bob rolled 2nd event for SECRET E and ended up with a Map of the Temple of Set.
Bob was high warband and went 1st; shot arrows and maddened the crowd for 3 turns.
Chris went 2nd and had at least ½ fall down.
I went 3rd and did the same.
Went like that for 3 turns. But on the 2nd crowd turn event (#36) rolled to change to Hot as Hades and all of us were seeing mirages. Good thing there were only 3 of us because we took all night with all the extra stuff.
Vampire charged up west side of building and took orc OOA.
Orc boss counter-charged, did crit #6 with bludgeon weapon, and with weather taking away all heavy armor, Vampire went OOA.
A Nutta charged Lenny II and was taken OOA. (Go Lenny!)
Lenny II charged the 2nd Nutta but then Lenny II went OOA. (Boo Nutta!)
Other stuff happened…see pictures. Neither of our ogres did anything!
The Flying Blood Sister attacks, gets counter charged. Hounds charge, orcs lose.
The Watch showed up, I let Chris place them. They had mirage problems too, but finally came into view and Bob routed on his 2nd or 3rd try. Not knowing any reason not to, I told Bob to keep his event item he had, but he must drop his treasure. (He had a lot!)
I passed my Ld test and they fought for me. Chris got 6 treasures and after a turn or 2 trying to get away, he saw the guards and routed. By that time I had gathered 8 treasures and was very happy. Jim wins! OOA: 2 heroes, 2 dogs, 1 slave, and someone else. Also, another slave wandered off the table. Heroes got full recovery. One dog dies on my side. Don’t know about Bob or Chris. I hire a Snake Charmer. - Chris wrote:

| The Tale of the Dead Robbing the LivingYet another Yeggmen or Haroum loses another treasure The twin moons shown down on the Thieves' Quarter. The Miser's Stronghouse was lit by torches within. Outside two Ghutani sentries kept watch. The Mumlak Farid II saw three men approach from the north. They strode brazenly toward him out of the shadows. Suddenly the moonlight struck the leader. A woman! The woman known as the Flying Blood Sister! Skulls gleamed in the moonlight as the woman's companions threw back the hoods that concealed their features. Wights! Farid was surprised to hear the shouts of alarm. He was even more surprised that he remembered to shout. The woman spoke some words in a strange language. She seemed to expect something to happen. Farid stumbled back to the concealment of a strong pillar before it did.
"Who disturbs the Ghutani?" shouted the Djinn Binder from inside the Miser's house.
"I DO," said a quiet female voice heard by each member of the Tribe despite the din of warcries and shouts of alarm. The Ghutani began to pray, for Death walked the night. Post Battle The Ghutani snatched defeat from the jaws of certain victory when I failed to charge two isolated Lhamian heroes. Instead of charging with four warriors, I elected to shoot at them with three. I stunned one hero, but then Vampire took Majed the Archer out of action. Then six warriors were out of action and it was time to flee. The Pit Fighter dies. Majed hates the Undead. The Undead lost no one. Much gold is acquired, but little is spent as the Undead fail to find anything of interest in the Thieves' Quarter besides a empty tomb on the outskirts of the Old City that the Miser Arem Shah had listed as a House...

It was not to be. Because Jim L and Bob played a special scenario, Chris and I played two games in a row. Oh my spleen! ____________________________________________________________________________________ The Tale of the Flying WitchOur first Sirrah Ye Lie! scenario of the campaign Thus it did come to pass that the Emir Haroum did wish to visit the marketplace. The Beggar King, the newly hired Pit Fighter and the flagellant Abdul-Badi accompanied their Emir. Unfortunately the press of the crowd separated the four companions. The Pit Fighter encountered a jackal sulking near the well. The Pit Fighter was driving the cur from the square with the aid of Abdul-Badi when the men were attacked by foul sorcery!
The crowd fell into a panic trampling the companions, the foul magister and a sinister Assassin. Members of the Tribe arrived on the scene, but more of the Lhamian cult arrived as well. The Flying Witch did assault Farid (perhaps because the Mamluk had escaped her clutches before.) Majed attacked the hated witch, but alas could not defeat her.
The Dread Ancient One arrived and fell upon the Tribe with vengeance. Tariq the veteran was killed. The White Company arrived to restore order, but the Ancient One ignored their demands for her surrender. Sorely battered, the Tribe fled the market. The jackal stuns Abdul-Badi. Post Battle The Tribe lost Tariq permanently. Majed suffered a Deep Wound. The Tribe question a vagrant and learn enough to gain an extra exploration dice next game. The Court of the Ancient suffer no permanent losses. More minions are hired and other good things happen.

| Week Ten--Heat WaveThe Arabian weather chart should be known for its heat. Most of our campaign has been fought at night, which is a handy way to avoid the heat of the day. (We used to have the same weather for day or night, but as several folks have pointed out that is not how desert climates work.) Lately a few of the lads have been toying with daytime battles. This week the heat caught up with us in three out of four fights. Players and Warbands: Andrew--Cathayan Pyrates (Sartosa) Bob--The Unpainted (Savage Orcs) Chris--Lhamian Vampyres (Khemri) Jim L (playtable)--The Khalibon Manpower Exchange II (Relics Slavers) Jim S (Von Kurst)--The Faithful (Relics Ghutani) The Tale of the HereticThe Ghutani track down a warlock hidden by the Khalibon Manpower Exchange The Tribe set out on a fine sunny day (marred only by a strong breeze out of the south). Their purpose was to apprehend the renegade warlock known as The Summoner. Informants had revealed the Al Khaliboni had hidden the heretic from the Witch Finders. This information was told to Emir Haroum by one Abdul-Muhsi, a Witch Finder high in the service of the Caliph. Although the day was not far advanced beyond the breaking of the previous night's fast, the sun was suddenly hidden by a dark cloud which covered the whole city. The day became as night!
The early morning crowd was sore frightened by the omen. People disappeared from the streets. From the darkness chanting could be heard. The Ghutani hardened their hearts and put their trust in the one. Torches were lit and the Tribe marched grimly on. Suddenly a ball of fire burst from the darkness to strike Abdul-Muhsi! The Witch Finder was sore wounded. The Ghutani placed him in a house of Believers nearby and continued. Soon the Tribe beheld a ruined tower on the edge of the El-Sakin district of the city. Warriors of the Khaliboni confronted them. The Heretic tried to use his sorcery upon them, but the faith of the Holy Man defeated him.
Ancient skeletal warriors attacked out the dark. The Heretic howled his blasphemy as the might of the Khaliboni appeared from the south. Then the torches of the Tribe did light the Heretic as the warriors of the Faithful ringed about him. Emir Haroum struck the fiend with two bolts from his crossbow! The Summoner fell dead! The Liche Priest Korfu takes a morning stroll. To hide himself from mortals the priest summons The Dark Breath and blocks out the sun. The Ghutani press forward after the Witch Finder is wounded. Lenny II and two hounds threaten from the south. Hordes of Khaliboni rush toward the tower. (Baghel II stumbles in the darkness.) The assault on the tower! The Warlock flees north. Post Battle. Only the warlock is killed. The Liche Priest escapes in the confusion (what was his errand? Where did he go?). The Tribe use their success to win the freedom of a falsely accused veteran mamluk, Tariq II. As a reward the Tribe gain 60 dinars and 3 vials of Blessed Water.

| Thank you, in case you haven't seen it here is playtable's gallery-- https://boringmordheimforum.forumieren.com/t2196-tortuga-inspired-buildings-finished-wip@Alan--yes many of the warbands feature familiar faces that we had thought dead and gone... ______________________________________________________________________________________ Another Skirmish in the Thieves' QuarterThe Court of the Ancient One clashes with the Manpower Exchange on a HOT day. The sun beat down on the desperate streets near the harbor. The file of slaves shuffled along through the dust. All around them pickpockets, murderers, forgers and mutants conducted the business of the Thieves' Quarter. Then a lonely howl pierced the noise of the crowd. Immediately the mood of the crowd changed. SHE was near. What event had caused the PRINCESS to stir from her lair in broad day? Did SHE hunger? The panicked crowd demolish the Courts' ranks. The crowd knock over a few Slavers as well. The Catcher takes one of the pack ooa. Hounds and snakes versus jackals. Nabil and a slave vainly struggle against the Flying Witch and the Ancient One. Post Battle The Slavers fled. Nabil hates the Ancient One (everyone does). A snake dies. Another snake is charmed. Life goes on. The Slavers encounter an Arabian Merchant during exploration but do not buy anything. (Too expensive.) Did I mention that the Khalibon Manpower Exchange has opened a Shoppe in the Arabyan Quarters? They have. | |

This is one of those aimless, play some games tell a story from what happens kind of campaigns. My lads don't do well with goals for the most part. As far as I can tell Andrew is striving to mount all of his characters (on steeply discounted steeds bought from Ahmed Suk's Steed and Transportation Emporium), although this is not always an advantage in a city oriented campaign. He has four steeds now. Chris seems to be gleefully building the most obnoxious Vampire he can. He is succeeding. Bob wants to bash stuff. He is also succeeding. Jim L wants to get out of the house on Thursdays. He also wants to end the campaign with an ogre hero. This is his first run of Slavers where the ogre hasn't rolled an LGT. As a campaign organizer, I have included as many cliche Arabian, Egyptian, Mideastern plots as I can. The players could meet a giant barbarian thief who has a witch doctor sidekick and a feud with the Temple of Set. But they haven't. The players could encounter a Mummy from Khemri who is trying to re-establish the rule of Setra over Al-Haikk from a hidden tomb beneath the Thieves Quarter. But I killed the warlock too soon. (So the Dark Priest got away.) The Unpainted have looted the Eye of Set from the Temple of Set, which means that the High Priest of Set is searching for the Thieves.

| The Tale of the Rain of FishEmir Haroum looked out over the Thieves' Quarter from the roof of the Beliver Selim Hakim's home. Selim was a righteous man, but the Emir wondered at his choice of neighborhoods just the same. Several buildings in the area had suffered damage in the war. Some were mere shells. For example those Cathayans were advancing through a house that had no upper walls. Cathayans! The Emire roused his companions. The Cathayan pirates were approaching from the east. And there to the west, an orc archer!
The Tribe gathered on the upper stories of Selim's home. Below them the crowds of murderers, pickpockets, harlots and drunkards hardly noticed as foreign pirates and hulking desert orcs joined their throng. When arrows flew from the roof of Selim the Righteous, however, the crowd stampeded! Orcs and pirates were trampled indiscriminately. The orcs responded with arrows and curses, but the pirates sought cover. A great riot broke out in the streets, added to by the occasional missile. Orcs screamed and fought their way toward the house of Selim, firing missiles of their own into the haze of the midday heat.
Eventually the crowd began to thin as the natives of the Quarter left these interlopers to fight among themselves. Orcs leered up at the Faithful, who where besieged on all sides. The pirate horse prepared to charge. And then the heavens opened and fish began to fall, fresh wet fish, who covered the ground in a squirming, heaving mass of slippery scales. The pirate horse could not charge. The orcs lost interest in the fight as they collected the sudden feast.
The Faithful retired indoors to break their fast!Post Battle The game got special ruled to death. The weather was HOT. The crowd stayed for the full three turn followed by three turns of raining fish (all movement halved). With Store Closing eminent we gave up. A draw. The T2 orc archer was shot down by Emir Haroum. The orc suffered Multiple Injuries, including a Leg Wound. He will rest for a bit before returning. Other orcs who had variously fallen from heights or been bashed by their fellows recovered. The Cathayans acquire another cheap horse.
