| Week Seventeen--Down the Casbah WayPlayers and Warbands:Bob--The Unpainted (Savage Orcs) Chris--Lhamian Vampyres (Khemri) Jim L (playtable)--The Khalibon Manpower Exchange II (Relics Slavers) Jim S (Von Kurst)--The Faithful (Relics Ghutani) The Tale of the Djinni's TreasureThe Faithful face the Unpainted The One revealed location of the grayskins' treasury to the Emir. Thus Babiars the Swift and two of the Brothers were sent to scout the treasure house. Alas the venture was ill omened from the start. The night was bright, with both moons waxing full. Only one of the orcish sentries was alert, but the brute shot Abdul Azim down with one arrow.
The night erupted in screams and shouts of alarm. A horde of the grayskins tumbled out of a nearby hovel. The Tribe rushed toward the cries of alarm. Majed the Archer shot down one of the sentries and the Knight of the Faith skewered the other. But the Knight was overthrown by a huge orc wielding a massive ax. Babiars tried to charge the last sentry over the rooftops, but tripped and fell to the street below. Al Bobo fell before the ax as well. The Emir Haroum called his brothers off before they were wiped out.
The Djinni could keep their treasure. The alarm is sounded. The Faithful rush toward the treasure house. The Unpainted respond to the alarm. Emir Haroum and Majed the Archer shoot down the orc sentries. The Unpainted ogre threatens Majed the Archer. The melee in front of the treasure house. The orc boss bashes Hassan. Things are about to go south for the Faithful. Post Battle The Faithful lost the Knight's barded Arabian Steed. The Knight now hates the orc formerly known as the Spearless Spear Orc. Al Bobo recovered. The Faithful discover smuggling activities... The Unpainted lose the ogre and a brute (both killed by Majed the Archer). The shaman has a vision which results in the Unpainted rescuing Drenok Johansen, who had been crucified by the Court of the Ancient One. As soon as Drenok recovers he will join the Unpainted in their feud with the Undead.

| Thanks Al! ______________________________________________________________________________________ Sneaking into TownA Breakthrough Variant The Court the Ancient One successfully infiltrates the Arabyan Quarters once again. The Blood Sister distracts a sentry. He never sees the vampire coming. As usual the T4 eunuch is no match for the S3 hounds. The Alarm is sounded! Lenny III's last minutes. A Storm of Chaos event was followed closely by the spirit form of the Mad Arabyan Sorcerer Abdul Alhazred. The resulting terror affects both warbands, but as usual, it hit the Slavers hardest. Also as usual, the Slavers fail their first rout test. Only Lenny III dies. Coincidentally, the poor Slavers have enough money to buy a Temple for cash, if they could buy a Temple, which they can't... (150+ D6x25 dinars! Oh, the poor Slavers!) Poor Slavers could invest in a Holy Relic and some torches...just saying. The Slavers do hire a Warlock, who has the spells Dread and Luck. Go figure. Both warbands receive 1 Djinni's Curse Point (for encountering Abdul Alhazred.)

| Thanks Al. This game had many cinematic elements. The Undead stalked the dark streets of the town, slowly eliminating each sentry they encountered. A supernatural event woke some of the sleeping guards, who fled in terror from the nightmare. One sentry miraculously survived to raise the alarm, but it was too late! Plus an ancient curse! What could be better? (Apparently, a lot of the things according to one participant...) | |

| A Skirmish in the Thieves QuarterThe Court face the Unpainted again The Court advance from the south. The Upainted swarm from the north. A fire breaks out in an unoccupied building. The Flying Blood Sister attacks the Unpainted snipers. Nuttas attack hounds. The brutal melee in the center. Splatz da Gimpy is cut down by the Blood Sister. It is possible that the Court fled the fight, as they had lots of hounds and skeletons out of action. The death (and subsequent reanimation) of Splatz da Gimpy overshadowed this information. Splatz now shambles with the Court as a Zombie. | |

| The Tale of the Rebellious PrinceA Protect the Prince scenario fought in the Arabyan Quarters And it came to pass that in the fourth year of His reign, the Caliph of Al Haikk did suffer a rebellion led by His Cousin, Fakhr al Din. As a loyal servant of the Caliph, Emir Haroum was charged with arresting the rebel before his supporters could rally. Emir Haroum discovered the lair of the Rebel and closed in.
Fakhr al Din was defended by the Khalibon Manpower Exchange, but the Rebel was unsettled by the Caliph's discovery of his plot. The Rebel dithered and delayed. The minions of Al Khaliboni rushed to the south, then suddenly were ordered to the north. All was confusion.
This was well, because the Servants of the One were sore benighted as well. The entire Tribe was sickened by some mysterious malady. Many suffered from false visions, others were weakened in body (-1T). The Emir himself could barely lift his sword (-1 St). The Frank was one of the few healthy members of the attacking force, but he was shot off his horse from ambush by Al Khaliboni himself.
The stalemate was broken by the arrival of a patrol of loyal Mamluks, who joined the ranks of the Ghutani. Al Khaliboni blustered for a bit, but eventually surrendered without further bloodshed. The Slavers mass for a breakout to the south. The Mamluk patrol enters from the west. The Mamluk patrol occupies Lenge's Emporium. The Ghutani attempt to turn the Slavers flank. The Slavers resist! The Slavers abandon their feint to the south. Everyone rushes north. Post Battle The Slavers surrender the Rebel. They suffer no casualties. The Ghutani are well rewarded by their grateful sovereign. The Frank dies of his wounds.

Not only had the Emir learned the location and time of the next smuggled cargo, but the Ghutani had recently discovered an entrance to the catacombs in the area. Thus when the smuggler's ship docked at the Pier of False Bottoms, Emir Haroum, Al Bobo, Majed the Archer and a Crimashin Assassin were nearby to confront them.
Unfortunately The Court of the Ancient were the intended recipients of the cargo. The Ancient One objected to the Ghutani's attempt to confiscate the cargo most forcefully. Also the crowd of thieves, pickpockets and other undesirables disrupted the Tribes' plans for a coordinated attack on the smugglers.
A terrific battle ensued near the docks as the Flying Blood Sister challenged the entire Ghutani warband (while the Vampire eliminated the pesky Crimashin...) The Blood Sister overthrew the replacement Frank, but was in turn cut down by Majed the Archer and Abdul Mushi.
The Emir was able to break the smugglers by himself, but so too was the Ancient One able to break the Ghutani (aided by unerring archery from a Dark Elf Assassin and a zombie orc...) The Ghutani were forced to retreat, but not before Al Bobo captured the special cargo the Tribe had come to intercept. The Court looks on as the Vampire and the Blood Sister engage and break the Ghutani. Reinforcements arrive too late to save the Ghutani. The veteran dervish Abdul Azim and Abu the Monkey Man are killed (-38 warband rating). The replacement Frankish knight loses his warhorse. The only cargo captured yields a crossbow and hunting bolts! The Ghutani purchase another Arabyan Steed from Ahmed Suk's Discount Mounts and Conveyances. The Court lost no one as the Blood Sister fully recovered. [Curses!] The Court collected the remaining cargo which yielded an Elven Cloak for the Blood Sister. [More curses!]

In this case Chris' decision to go with a primed mini works, since The Ancient One mainly shows up as a shadow in most photos... ______________________________________________________________________________________ Rock The BoatA Defend the Find set in the harbor A very similar battle to the last report was fought on a slightly altered table. The Unpainted defend... Something, likely a panicked crowd, is knocking over the Undead. As usual with a battle between the Court and the Unpainted, I know little beyond which scenario was fought. The Spearless Spear Orc is said to have dueled with the Ancient One. (S7, T5 plus Resilient against S5, T6 plus Resilient.)

| Thanks Al. ______________________________________________________________________________________ The Tale of the Lost PrinceThus it did come to pass that one Husain Agha of the House and lineage of Tusan did carouse in the Thieves' Quarter of Al Haiik. This Prince did become separated from his guardians and advisers. It was feared that the Prince would suffer assassination or disgrace. The Emir Haroum did join himself and his Askar, Mamluks and all his Tribe in the search for the errant Prince. At first the Ghutani were successful. The Crimashin Bilad did find the Prince wandering alone in the night. However before the bulk of the Tribe could take custody of the Prince, Bilad became separated from the Prince and was himself overwhelmed by the Slavers of the Khalibon Manpower exchange.
A general battle ensued in which many of the Slavers minions were wounded or killed. However when the Slavers fled, it was discovered that the Prince had been kidnapped by the Cathayan Pyrates during the confusion of battle! The Ghutani were unable to recapture the Prince before the Pyrates could spirit His Majesty away under cover of darkness.Cathayans approach from the east. Frustrated by darkness, Emir Haroum can not see where Bilad has led the Prince. Slavers surround the house Bilad the Crimashin took refuge in. Led by a hired Warlock and supported by a Witch, more of the Slavers attempt to besiege Majed the Archer and the Mumlak crossbowmen. This was a bad idea on the Slavers part... A pack of feral dogs enter behind the Ghutani. The Mamluk Tariq II is wounded. The Warlock and one eunuch are down for the Slavers. Fleeing the Slavers' hired ogre, the Prince falls stunned in the darkness (right in front of Khang the Pyrate.) A slave trips near Babiars... The feral dogs attack! Babiars and Al Bobo subdue the Slavers' slaves. The other Ghutani deal with the feral dogs. The Cathayans prepare to ambush the Ghutani. Post Battle The Slavers fled with nine warriors out of action. Kaldoon II was killed by Al Bobo. A hound also died. A slave may have fled or may not. The Ghutani elected to rout with the Prince only 4 inches form the table edge and the store about to close. No one dies, but Abdul Mushi now hates the Cathayans. Only one Cathayan had gone out of action. He lived.

| The Tale of the House of IniquityAnother Last Orders in the Thieves' Quarter The Faithful were incensed to discover The Unpainted disporting themselves in a waterfront dive known as the Unrighteous Camel. The ungodly Cathayans were also present in the bar, but it was the Orcs that the Tribe encountered first. All of the Emir's servants but Hassan of Ghut had managed to bring their daggers past the watchmen at the door, still the Spearless Spear Orc was able to do frightful damage with just a broken table leg.
The Emir found himself literally backed into a corner by the assault of the grayskins. However the replacement Frank was able to delay the leader of the brutes long enough for the Emir to find a solution to his dilemma. As the mamluks stood off the Spearless One, the Emir noted that many bodies were falling past his vantage point on the landing. Apparently the orcs and the pirates were fighting on the topmost level of the stairwell. The Emir had noted that his own Crimashin was the first to fall past. The fellow was certainly clumsy for such an expensive servant. A glance over the rail confirmed that aside from the Crimashin, most of the unfortunates who fell from the upper level were only temporarily incapacitated.
"Over the rail!" ordered the Emir. "Finish them!"
Al Bobo, Abdul Mushi, Babiars and the Djinni Binder all jumped over the railing to fall upon the dazed orcs and pirates below. The enemy fighters were quickly dealt with. The sudden escape of enemies who were thought to be trapped, demoralized the grayskins, who fled the bar. Unfortunately this freed the leader of the pirates and her officers to fight the Faithful. The Emir ordered a retreat.Chaos on all three levels of the bar. On the ground floor the orcs try to pry Master Khang away from the door. The fight on the midlevel stairwell. The Unpainted's ogre traps the Cathayan heroes in an upper room. Suddenly the orcs are gone and Cathayans drop from above. Master Khang duels the Djinni Binder! Post Battle Despite the huge numbers of felled combatants, no one was permanently injured by the fray.

| The Tale of the Slaver, the Djinni and the False PriestThe Ghutani battle Orcs, Slavers and the Dark Priest in a Street Brawl in the Thieves' Quarter One day the Emir did decide to visit his friend Fatwa the Believer who lived in the Thieves' Quarter of Al Haikk, blessings be upon him. Naturally the Emir traveled with his Mumlaks, his Askar and the Scholar known as the Djinni Binder or the Knight of the Faith. The Emir had barely arrived when the Crimashin brought news that the Emir's enemies thought to assassinate him. Rather than flee back to his mansion, the Emir deployed his men to meet his enemies.
The Orcs of the desert arrived first. The gray skins pushed their way through the crowds of the slum. The Emir shot one of the brutes with the Asp Bow, at which time the crowds panicked and rushed for cover. The crowd's mood was not improved when an unnatural darkness did descend on the town. People cried, "The Old Prince is returned! Repent!" Others screamed, "The Princess thirsts! Beware!"
The Unpainted tribe cared not. They fought the Faithful through the streets, even as the mad crowd surged around the combatants. Still the battle could not go on in the darkened streets. As even the orcs with their in-human sight could not find tell friend from foe.Majed the Archer and the Emir snipe at the approaching Unpainted. The crowd vent their fear on the Slavers on the jetty. The Faithful and the Unpainted go right for each other's throats. The Knight of the Faith cuts down the ogre. Event! A Liche Priest enters the battlefield on an errand for the Old Gods. The sun is blocked by the Black Breath. The Battle of the Primed! Abdul Mushi defeats the White Shaman. Meanwhile far from the sounds of battle, the Slavers stroll down the jetty in an elaborate flanking maneuver. The battle ended with Store Closing. The Slavers lost no one as they only barely got to fight with the Liche Priest's guardians. The Slavers gain much experience, but still complain bitterly about their lot. The Unpainted took heavy casualties. A brute dies permanently. The Shaman recovered. No one died. The Faithful discover the Den of Thieves in exploration and gain weapons and armor. (The thieves apparently steal from the local armories,)

| Well except for different weather, the first couple of weeks in the Karribean will look a LOT like Araby. An aside: we have probably forgotten to roll for weather in this campaign more often than in any other I remember. Sad for me, since I bought all those Desert Robes, but I am also one of the culprits. ______________________________________________________________________________________ The Great Pressgang BattleThe Court of the Ancient versus the Cathayans An epic struggle between two of the most powerful warbands in the campaign. (Both leaders are 'maxed out' in experience. Both routinely defeat other warbands by only commiting a couple of models to the fight.) The flagellant model represents Fathi II the Zombie. Earlier on in the campaign I had asked Chris why he represented his skeletons with old Grave Guard with halberds, but now that I see the state of his old plastic skeletons I understand. The Ancient One stands alone! In the middle of all of the Cathayan heroes (and some hangers on). I sense hubris here. The Undead seek revenge on the Cathayans. The Ancient One has fallen! For the Court I see the Flying Blood Sister, the Beloved, the Wight hero and several henchthings. The Cathayans have Master Khang (round base), and the New Mounted Guy (unpainted rider on round base) for certain. The Disgraced Nobel and the Silver Rider are in reserve. (Lack of fluff means I don't know much beyond which model represents a hero for these warbands.) Endgame. Lots of models on either side have been removed. I believe the Court lost heart and retreated once the wave of revenge failed. Post Battle The Court reports Fathi II the Zombie, a wight, two hounds and a skeleton destroyed or killed. The Cathayans report one hero who suffered Horrible Scars or Hardened. (More models than that were ooa, but the Cathayans ignore the fate of such menials.) | |

And, yes, the hero taken AoO was hardened... But had also been previously hardened.
