- These games do seem to have half of the player warbands lying down most of the time
We have a bunch of campaign rules that mess with warbands, but if more than one of them hits at a time that game can go south in a hurry. The good news is that most of the time its a reason for silliness rather than frustration. When the last game of the night gets hit though, we tend to cut our losses rather than play it out as we are likely to run out of time. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ A Hijacking in the Thieves QuarterThe Return of the Cathayans The Court of the Ancient One stole a cargo of treasure from the Cathayans during Andrew's first game in around a month. The Cathayans had resigned themselves to losing before the game since they were a +3 underdog at least. Then the weather rolled was Hot as Hades, which totally shut the warband down. The shore party who are supposed to rendezvous with the ship chased mirages through the streets of Al Haikk until the whole Lhamian warband hit them. Well the Lhamians hit them, but actually in waves as the Living struggled to move. The Ancient One and her jackal pack outpace the rest of the Court. The Shore Party wander aimlessly. The Ships crew spent the game falling off the ship, hoping not to get eaten by the harbor sharks while trying to get back on the ship and then doing it again. Post Battle The Cathayans lost. Two gunners may have died. The owner of the Paw gained and lost a skill. The Lhamians discover a Whalebone Charm and some gold.

| Thank you Alan. "Always look on the bright side of life..." ______________________________________________________________________________________ The Tale of the Drunken Infidel and the PiratesAnother Pressgang in the Thieves Quarter. In those days the Oppressors fleet did anchor. Many of the Oppressors did take their pleasure in the low parts of the city. Emir Haroum led the Faithful to the Quay of Sore Heads to recruit rowers for the galleys of the Caliph. Alas though there were many infidels abroad, few were recruited. For the Cathayans also stalked the night. The She-Cat and her minions disputed the right of the Ghutani to recruit. This foolish claim led to bloodshed.
The Holy Man (V) was the first to die. Al Bobo, Mir Sher, Al Romani(II) and the Brotherhood swarmed over the horseman who rode the Holy One down. More of the Cathayans appeared in the uncertain light of the torches. The Brotherhood and Al Romani were swept away. Al Bobo defeated another knight, but Mir Sher was cut down by a rude peasant.
Vowing vengeance, the Ghutani gathered their prisoners and retreated into the night. Among the prisoners was the pirate Hai Shang. He was executed for his crimes. For is it not written, an eye for an eye.The initial deployment. Cathayans and drunks. The Ghutani have the docks. Maneuvering in a slum. The Ghutani fail to trap two riders in the narrow alley. The Grey Knight rides down Al Romani. Al Bobo and Mir Sher capture the Silver Rider. Post Battle The Ghutani mourn the loss of another Holy Man and Mir Sher. The Djinn Binder becomes a Knight of the One (since he can ride the dead infidel's steed.) Abdul Mushi becomes a hero. The Faithful gain one drunk for 8 dinars and a lucky find which adds another 40 dinars to their treasury. The Cathayans capture two drunks for 19 dinars. The Cathayans lost Hai Shang (and all his wonderful stuff).

| The Tale of the Midnight RiderA Sneaking into Town breakthrough Thus it came to pass that the Tribe lodged in the Arabyan Quarter known as Arbat, for strange reports had reached the Caliph of nefarious doings. Nothing untoward occurred during the daylight hours, but Emir Haroum noticed furtive meetings in the Casbah. Heavily cloaked strangers met with merchants of dubious reputation. The Emir vowed that the sentries would be very diligent come the night.
And so it was that Abu the Monkey Man found himself patrolling a dusty street in the small hours of the day. The town was quiet, nothing stirred but the bats and the Djinni. Then the faint sound of a horse walking. Abu shook his head to clear it. Yes, he could hear a horse walking. Abu strained his eyes, peering into the depths of the night.
Suddenly something moved in the street. A huge shadow moved slowly toward the warrior. Abu raised the alarm: a horseman, armed and armored rode out of the darkness toward him. Abu moved behind a palm tree while he prepared his sling. He could hear the other sentries shouting the alarm. Torches flared in the guardhouse at the end of the street. Still the silent rider came on. Slingstones and arrows rattled off the heavily armored knight. The rider ignored the archers and rode past them, another rider appeared from an alley behind Abu. Abu followed the knights, shooting his sling at every opportunity.
Suddenly the riders were illuminated by a torch carried by Majed the Archer. Abu focused on the first knight. The rider was nearly out of the Tribes' territory. Soon he would enter the rich center of the city. Abu fired another sling stone, the rider was nearly out of sight. But the missile flew true! Knight and horse collapsed in a tangle of limbs. Post Battle This was a final game of the night. Andrew gambled on his armor and the speed of his horses to win the breakthrough. Alas Abu the lowliest of the Ghutani missile troops scored a wound where crossbowmen and archers failed. The rider fully recovered and rolled a wound advance... The Ghutani gain much gold and another hired sword returns a favor: Holy Man VI perhaps?

| Thank you Alan. ______________________________________________________________________________________ The Eaters of the DeadThe Court of the Ancient One and the Unpainted squabble over a member of the ruling family of Al Haikk The Thieves Quarter of Al Haikk has a dark secret. Once each lunar cycle the town gates are left open and the houses of the town are tightly locked and barred. Foul things from the desert are allowed to roam at will and take whomever they can. No one will run to the sound of screaming, no one will help. The appointed night has arrived and the gong for curfew has sounded. As the warband nears its lodging the leader is accosted by a heavily veiled lady. “You must save him! My beloved has gone mad! He is somewhere in the town. Find him and bring him to the Palace of the Four Winds. I will reward you greatly!” The lady names a sum that is interesting. Several large, lurking presences make attempting to simply relieve her of the reward seem an unacceptable risk. “Show him this that he may know you come from me.” The lady provides a cheap looking locket set with a curious milky stone… This stone may be worth a feigned search.
The Ancient One and her pack hunt ghouls. The two warbands can not actually see each other across the dark square. Clumsy orcs and ogre fall down in the dark. The Unpainted confront the Court. A group of Death Cultists tried to reclaim the Eye of Set from the Unpainted. They were unsuccessful. The Orc Boss bashed ghouls while the Ancient One cut down ghouls and orcs. The orcs eventually fled. - Chris wrote:

Lenny II the Lazar was moved forwards. Lenny went OOA.
Next turn vampire controlled 3 of 4 sentries. I moved one close to the 2 dogs and both dogs rolled a 1 to keep from being detected. Then the sentry went OOA.
Next turn I had 2 sentries close to half dozen or more undead and sounded the alarm. By then the undead were half way across the board. Slavers poured out of the guard shack. Next turn both sentries went OOA.
Slavers advanced. Vampire charged closest warrior, my ogre, and took him OOA. Slavers charged the red flying Blood Sister and Hey You II fired his blunderbuss and hit 2 models in 8" and 5 of 8 models in the dark but only knocked 2 down.
Flying wizard lost 2 wounds but then kicked back hard. The Watch arrive, but are too far away to help.
With the unstoppable vampire and Blood Sister doing all the damage and taking OOA 6 Slavers, I routed as fast as I could. Vampires gain Arabian Thief. Slavers buy Arabian Steed for 75% off. Now need to get skill to ride. Slavers had 2 eunuchs die taking 24 exp. with them. In other news: The Slavers freed all their snakes in order to replace eunuchs. The Court used the Monkey's Paw again, gained another Henchman slot and lost the Paw.

- The Savage Orcs and the Mounted Ninja Pirates fought to quite nearly the bitter end over a handful of drunks.
It started with a few volleys of arrows from the orcs, but their luck was poor and other than a few expended lucky charms, there was little result.
The orcish shaman was knocked down by the crowd on its last turn, and Lady Kozakura, leader of the Mounted Ninja pirates charged in, with a few minions charging the possible interceptors, to kill the Shaman.
Lady Kozakura was then charged by the Orc's leader as well as a few other heavy hitters. The battle generally went as thus from then on. Lady Kozakura with Lightning Reflexes, I4, an Ithilmar Katana and 4 attacks proceeded to take everything that charged her OoA (with the horse being no slouch either).
Meanwhile, a Str 5, 4 attack spear Orc proceeded to take everything that charged him OoA. Lady Kozakura finished the battle having taken 7 units OoA. (I don't know how many the Orc did, but it should be quite a few, I know I lost two heroes at least to it.). Eventually, Spear Orc charged Lady Kozakura and was taken out by another unit from behind.
The battle was won once Spear Orc fell, with the Mounted Ninja Pirates leaving only two of the orcs not OoA, but only six left themselves. An experienced ninja and gunner died. The orc Shaman died, and one of the Mounted Ninja Pirates taken out by Spear Orc gained horrible scars. The Orcs lose Ugga Booga II and three 14 exp. henchorcs.

| The Tale of the Feckless ThiefThe HeistThe Scholar known as the Djinni Binder glanced down the crowded street. His spirited horse shied as a beggar passed too close. The Scholar patted his steed's neck to calm it, while keeping a firm hand on the reigns. The thief was late. The Tribe had gathered here on the Street of Orchids at the appointed hour, but there was no sign of the reprobate. Al Bobo stood on a balcony above looking up and down the street as well. The thief was late. The Emir was ill. The omens were not good.
Suddenly the Mamluk Majed gave a cry. The soldier raised his crossbow and fired at something in the crowd. "The Court of the Ancient!" Majed shouted, "Beware!" His fellow Mamluks rushed to the upper parapet with crossbows at the ready. The Scholar could see nothing of the enemy. The crowd of shoppers, beggars and merchants began to surge this way and that as they sought to flee the area. It was all the Scholar could do to keep his saddle. Beside him the grim Frankish mercenary held the crowd back with the flat of his sword and the body of his warhorse.
"Masters! Save me!" cried a voice in the crowd. "Have mercy Masters! The Djinni pursue me!"
The Scholar could see a hand raised above the stampeding crowd. The thief had finally arrived! Yet even as the Scholar tried to force his steed through the mass of screaming people, a white robed sorcerer appeared at a door behind the thief. Arrows of silver seemed to flash from the sorcerer's hand. The thief screamed and disappeared in the crowd. And wonders of wonder, the Flying Witch soared out of the same building. She circled above the crowd briefly before diving into the mass with her sword held like a lance before her. A horrible scream rent the air. The Flying Witch reappeared carrying a gory head and a heavy bundle. The game was up. The thief was no more...Post Battle Only the thief died. The Faithful gained +3 Underdog bonus and many initiative and leadership advances. Emir Haroum missed the game due to a mysterious illness caused by the Djinni's Curse. (Gained in week one...) Al Bobo failed his Tarot Card leadership test, but not by 3. Still the post battle was not as profitable as usual.

This cultist told the orcs of another treasure chamber hidden beneath the streets of the Thieves Quarter... Emir Haroum coughed as his men entered the dusty corridor. The flickering light of the torches barely illuminated the fantastic carving that decorated the walls. "Tread carefully my brothers," cautioned the Emir. "We walk the paths of Djinni and blasphemer. Remember it is written: watch thy step."
The Emir had barely uttered this wisdom when iron cages fell from the ceiling trapping the townsmen, Abu and Hassan. Then the Frank screamed as he fell into a hidden pit that opened out of the very floor of the corridor. Abu and Hassan could be rescued, but the Frank was totally incapacitated. Clouds of dust billowed from the ancient floor.
From the darkness ahead loud crashes and screams of agony could be heard. The Faithful were not alone in their quest, but apparently the treasure was well guarded...
"So it begins," observed Al Bobo. The Slavers reached the treasure chamber first. Both human warbands fell upon the higher rated Orcs. Hidden counters represent treasure counters. The Faithful negotiate the trap filled corridor. Cages rained from the skies. Pits opened at their feet. (The Djinni Binder [figure closest to the door] is actually trapped in a 3" deep pit. He will not get out of it again during the game. Initiative 2). Babiars tries to jump the pit, but ends up caged instead. The Slavers had two heroes and their slaves trapped in their corridor. The Slavers had a nice variety of traps to contend with, but tended to roll Guardian Spirits most. The orcs suffered several arrow traps, a spiked swinging ball or two, and one Guardian Spirit. They also suffered a catastrophic fall during transport and lost more bits of themselves... The bitter fight by the Orc's entrance corridor. A combination of over-aggressive movement which resulted in several casualties from traps and fighting two warbands breaks the Unpainted. The Slavers then wipe out all the Faithful that made it into the treasure chamber. (Ghutani casualties can be seen lined up outside of the corridor.) Post Battle The Unpainted (rated 469) fled first with several heroes OoA. The newest shaman, Shazgul da Magicky, was killed. The Spearless Spear Orc was captured by Slavers. He was ransomed for 25 dinars. A Brute was also killed. The Orcs captured at least one treasure. - Jim L (aka playtable) wrote:

Found black market. Found 6th Rabbit's Foot (a good one). Hired a new Lazar. Found and hired a Witch. All 3 slaves are maxed out. Mad Bob gets 3 wounds! Rating 410 and broke again. The Faithful shot through the door to take the Slavers out of the game. Al Romani II the Pit Fighter died as did the Mamluk Fariq III. The Faithful were able to secure four treasures from the bodies of the fallen left in the Temple. Haroum was able to defeat the trap guarding the sarcophagus to loot the Major Artifact the Asp Bow. In addition the Faithful find another entrance to the Catacombs in exploration.

| Ja, the Jims are not scoring many wins in this cycle of campaigning. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Week Fifteen: A Street Brawl in the Arabyan Quarter Or three guys playing Mordheim... Players and Warbands:Andrew--Cathayan Pyrates (Sartosa) Jim L (playtable)--The Khalibon Manpower Exchange II (Relics Slavers) Jim S (Von Kurst)--The Faithful (Relics Ghutani) The Tale of the BesiegedEmir Haroum looked out over the town from the roof of the house of Salmad the Believer. The street below was a beehive of activity, but the Emir could tell something was amiss. Merchants did not call out their wares, shoppers were quick to agree to a price without haggling and even the thieves seemed to be wary. Then the Emir saw three horsemen enter the square from the west. Following in their wake was a line of warriors. The Cathayans! From the south the sharp barks of hounds and the crack of whips announced that the Slavers had entered the square. There on the roof of Lenge's Emporium stood the slave merchant, Al-Khaliboni, himself! Haroum shouted a warning. Instantly crossbow bolts sought the slave merchant. The man cried out and fell below the parapet. To the west the horsemen urged their mounts into cover as the men on foot broke formation and blended into the wary crowd. The people in the street looked around in alarm, but continued about their business.
"Avaunt fiend of Shaytan!" cried the Djinni Binder from the alley below the Emir's perch.
There in the very street behind Salmad's house stood a Djinni! The fiend cackled and advanced on the scholar and his retainer, the Frank. Fire flew from the fiend's claws, but dissipated harmlessly at a Word from the Djinni Binder. The fragile crowd broke for the exits, trampling friend and foe alike. The Faithful were surrounded by enemies. Slavers to the south. The Fortress of the Faithful. The Djinni Binder and the Frank ride down the djinni Khar-mel. The Cathayans seek shelter in the shadow of a ruined tower. The Slavers seek cover. Baghel the ogre is trampled by the fleeing crowd. The enemies close in. Mad Bob, the Caravan Guard, is down. Stunned. Post Battle The coward, Al-Khaliboni, failed his first rout test again. With nine out of action and their erstwhile allies attacking them, it is unlikely that the Slaver's would have stayed. A hound, a slave and a eunuch are killed. Mad Bob is captured by the Faithful, who release him for heavy armor and his scourge. The Slavers search for a horse, but give up on buying one when faced with the cost. The Faithful held on for one more volley against the exposed Cathayans. All wounds were saved by armor or only resulted in stunned or knock downs. The Cathayans retreated into cover and the Ghutani withdrew from the fight with six warriors out of action. The Frank's warhorse was killed. Abdul Mushi fully recovers. Another Hired Sword returns a favor. The Cathayans only suffered one gunner out of action. A martial Artist becomes a hero. The Cathayans buy an Arabyan Steed for 30% off. Four of them are mounted again.

I had to go back and figure out our respective records: Chris--Khemri Lhamian Vampires ~W~/~L~ /~D -15-/-7-/-1-
Andrew--Sartosan Cathayan Pirates ~W~/~L~ /~D -10-/-5-/-2-

Jim L--Relics Araby Slavers ~W~/~L~ /~D -6-/-16-/-2-
Jim S--Relics Araby Tribe (Ghutani) ~W~/~L~ /~D -5-/-16-/-2-
Interestingly (to me at least) is that of Andrew's losses, most are to Jim L's Slavers.

Chris rolled for Event for loose camel: it runs on the board, runs back, runs off.
Orcs go next, run close and shoot!
Slavers go last, all undead on stairway are somehow hiding.
Orcs and Undead mix it up first for a few turns with vampire diving charging and kicking ass and taking names, as usual.
Slavers take out 2 dogs easily, Lenny III spies the undead and Hey You II fires his blunderbuss, hits 4 but only knocks down the 1st.
Lhamians and Orcs are having a very bloody time fighting.
4 undead on walkway try to climb down, 2 fall and are knocked down. Easy prey for Slavers. Wardog fights that one for 3 turns or more.
Slavers charge into battle, Frenzied Bob with 6 attacks wounds some hero with sword in the air(close to orcs), and gets wounded twice in return. Blood sister charges in and stuns him.
Undead and Orcs are taking rout tests but both are staying. Orc boss down to 1 wound and gets knocked down by vampire. More orcs pile in, orc ogre piles in. Vampire takes ogre OOA too.
Vampire eventually fail rout test and leave. Slavers and Orcs fight a turn or 2 after. Orcs rout with so many OOA and Slavers warband was all in one spot getting ready to swarm. Slavers win!
Treasure: Find Tome of Magic – sell off. Find Gromil sword Find 2 doses of Healing Herbs.
Injuries: Fathi II gets blinded in one eye Mad Bob gets multiple injuries, 1: robbed of 110gc worth of stuff, 2: hates blood sister, 3: full recovery, and 4: full recovery.
I think Orcs lost 3 nuttas, don’t know anything else other than it was very bloody except for me. I had 2 heroes and 2 henchmen OOA. With the undead hiding on walkway and all attention on orcs it took me a while to get into it.
