Kodsticklerburg: A Mordheim Project

Very cool creations, codsticker! Impressive big ruins like their should for Mordheim. I especially like your color choices - nicely subdued and gritty. Keep it up!

Thanks for the compliment    I primed the stone walls with Dulux paint/primer coat tinted light grey, then picked out blocks in various colours from the Ceramacoat and American craft paint ranges. From Ceramacoat I used Rain Grey, Hippo Grey and Bridgeport Grey. From Americana I used Shale Greeen and Desert Sand. After that I gave it a wash made from Ceramacoat Soft Grey mixed with a 10/1 water/flow enhancer base. As the Soft Grey is very nearly white it was a little too light; I think in the future I will use a colour slightly lighter than the blocks and then go over some of the mortar with a Soft Grey wash. I then went back over and dry brushed darker colours over the blocks and stippled mid tone colours such as Shale Green and Rain Grey here and there. I made a dark wash and brushed streaks down the blocks, further darkening them, occasionally switching to a light colour for lighter streaks on dark blocks. As a final bit of painting I went over some of the recesses with thinned down Shale Green and Desert Sand to mix up the colour of the mortar. It sounds like a rather long process but as washes and stippling go rather quickly it doesn't take that long and in both cases you are not doing every block in the wall, just picking out individuals for attention.

That does look SPLENDID. I particularly like the interior colors...probably since they remind me of my own color choices. VERY WELL DONE!

The base is now ready for painting:


All the areas of exposed MDF will be covered with rubble and debris so I did not bother putting flagstones down in those areas.

The paving stones look TERRIFIC. That should finish the pieces off SPLENDIDLY!

Oh nice, this is a building very much in the spirit of the old cardboard-ones from the original box. But a luxus version of them

I really like the color of the inside, very nice homage to the original cardboard scenery.
The covered walkway in between the two buildings makes me think to the city of Florence and it must be a blast to play!

What are you using for the cobble stones on the base?

The flagstones are mostly cast from masters I made myself out of 1.5mm and 2mm sheet styrene. I started with Woodland Scenics Brush-on latex mould but then moved onto a pour-in-place latex mould and then Smooth On 2 part liquid plastic as the casting material. The pictures a out of order. The first one shows me making the brush on moulds, re-enforced with cheese cloth (they recommend plaster cloth but I didn't have any); the second shows the base with a bunch of the cast flagstones being glued in place and the third shows the master I made. I also filled I here and there with individual ones I made from sheet styrene. The dark grey is modelling putty I added to the styrene master to add texture. I also knicked them with a hobby knife and rounded the edges and corners with a file.

Congratulations on finishing this project. I like your other buildings as well but this is the best so far. A big improvement!
