7 Hours 236 Models, 15 Warbands, 3 Teams, 60 Wounded, 22 Dead.
Dawn broke over Halsdorph Keep as an unlikely coalition approached to cleanse the Bog Stronghold. The Ogre Toshiro Genbu, the Daemon Eater of Leech Street, at the behest of the Ten, had gathered troops from all over Marienburg, an alliance not thought possible in the months prior. Sea Ghost fighting alongside Dark Elf, the Racial Puritans of the Socialist River Watch, side by side with Black skinned Lizardmen. But Chaos's influence on the city had become too strong to be ignored.
Inside the keep the dark forces gathered. In a truce just as unlikely, Magisters of the Possessed, Sea Priests of Stromfel, Sorcerers of Hashut, Seers of the far north all chanted in unison with the Driach of the Fimir, trying to draw the eyes of the Chaos Lords. A Liche and his Necromancer Apprentice looked on jotting down notes, trying to glean some dark secrets from these foul rituals.
Below the keep, another alliance was gathering, deep in the burrows crossroads, the Marienburg heads of Clan Pestlins, Skryre and Eshin had joined up to cut all the heads of their enemies off at once - 200 birds, one Warpstone.
The attackers approached the Keep from all sides, The Druchii, Sea Ghosts and River Watch from the front, the Black Caps, Maneaters and Lizardmen from the back, all with perfectly reasonable sized ladders in tow.
A Pyromaniac sat alert in the castles gatehouse, a sentry to warn the priests of any encroaching danger. Through the mist he spotted the attackers but before he could raise the alarm and an arrow from an elf bow sent him tumbling from the tower, alerting the foul ones anyway.
Now aware they were under attack, a hail of fire arrows, mortar and handgun shots spewed out the hole in the castles wall bouncing off the drug enhanced flesh of the Maneaters. Glistening sweat dripped off the Maneaters as they raised the first of the oversized ladders onto the wall for their Skink allies to climb. But no sooner were the tiny lizards on the ladder than a fire arrow sent the whole thing up in flames. Skinks scrambled to the top as their burning brothers fell to the ground below or hung off the ladder stunned and on fire. They were cut off from the rest of the forces, the first into the keep, with Marauders and Fimir warriors approaching from all sides. The Black Caps rushed with their ladders, but being human were not able to reach the top fast enough to save the Skinks.
Taking advantage of the burning confusion a clan Eshin Skaven burst from the underburrows, running a powder keg deep into the Ogre battle lines. A suicidal attack, but one that could prove devastating to the attackers. The Skaven didn’t have to wait for the keg-runner to meet his demise as a Treasure Hunter snatched up the brave Skaven with a fishing rod and put him a sack. With danger on all sides and the attack falling to pieces before it had truly begun, Toshiro took charge. Mounting his magic carpet, he flew to the top of the wall in an attempt to rescue the stranded lizards. Ordering his Bulls to deal with the ladder and his Young Blood’s to dispose of the keg, the Ogres acted quickly. The Bulls heaved the burning ladder, tossing it into the keep burying a number of zombies and Fimir as it fell. Armstrong grabbed the keg, ferrying it hopefully to a safe distance from the Ogres.
The River watch and Dark/Wood Elf combo had reached the front gate, a cavalry charge of Hired Swords ready for when it fell and a ladder with a line of Policeman ready to climb. A Sea Ghost stepped forward and threw the secret weapon, Bog Fire! Deadly to all known types of wood! The bog fire shattered on the gate, burning it down in an instant, working a little too well, as Fimir and Stromfels burst through the still burning hole, taking out half the cavalry and sending them falling to the swamp below. The Police had made it to the top of the wall, when suddenly a blunderbuss wielding Chaos Dwarf landed next to them on his magic carpet, unloading on the long line of cops, killing several.
Back at the rear battle, Fimir and Reavers started to spew out into the swamp, using the burning ladder as a shortcut, coming face to face with a wall of Ogres. Stinky meat-sweats mixed with fishy reptile-sweats as the spiked fists of the Ogres met the torches of the Fimir. It was man muscles vs green muscles and there was not a shirt in sight. From the back of Toshiro’s carpet, a Chameleon Skink called to his brothers to jump on and escape, as they dodged the hit of Chaos Maruaders. The Black caps had made it to the wall, engaging the Fimir, as a Bull Centaur charged at them from across the ramparts. The Black Cap leader, a former private investigator stood in the Centaur’s path, hypnotising the beast and neutralising him for the remainder of the battle. The Fimir Draich attempted to lure a Black Cap rookie to chaos, but the newly deemed Soldier of Solkan struck back removing the cyclops from the battle.
From his sweaty pocket Toshiro removed a Hell Heart, and swallowed it whole, spewing out a massive vortex of anti-magic in its place, causing almost all the wizards within the keep to fall to the ground convulsing. They quickly recovered, causing Toshiro to feel mighty ripped off by the expensive and ineffective attack. The two undead wizards recovered first, both casting Lifestealer on the handsome strong ogre, leeching him of precious wounds.
The surviving Skinks made it to the carpet just in time to be wiped out by a mortar shot bouncing off the Ogre leader, who then made a hasty retreat back to the battle lines of his brethren.
A heavy fog that had covered the battlefield finally lifted, allowing the Sea Ghosts to return to their cover fire and allow their best to scale the walls, joining the river watch on the offensive. The Chaos Dwarf force raced up the stairs, coming face to face with famed Halfling detective, Sam Warbles, who was extremely high on Daemon Dust. The Chaos Dwarf Ogre Bodyguard stepped forward and charged the tiny man, promptly getting arrested and booted off the walls in handcuffs.
In the gate house, the Fimir possessed fought furiously against the forces of men and Dark Elf, finally falling after a bloody battle, and clearing the way for the arrival of the Dark Elf monster force; a Merwyrm and Dragon Turtle, who plugged the newly formed hole in the gate house cutting off the rest of Chaos from reaching the outer path.
Finally after careful planning, the Skaven burst forth from the undercity in multiple places. Launching poison wind globes at the climbing black caps, and charging into the support staff of the Chaos Dwarves, the back of the Restless Dead, and the flank of the Ogres. The Machine Ogre charged into the Bone Goliath and was promptly torn apart. The Wind Mortar caught a look at a stampede of Sauruses and retreated but the Monks of Pestlins were not so lucky being wiped out and captured by the blood thirsty lizards.
Inside the keep, angry Black Dwarves took down the Pestlins Ogre, as Chaos Marauders leapt to the Restless Dead’s defence, attempting to dive charge the Skryre and failing, being captured with spike jawed snatchers and shot in the head by Warplocks.
The Sorcerer of Eshin launched Warpfire at the Ogres as they mopped up the remaining Fimir, killing a bull and several Gnoblars. The newly appointed Fimir leader, a former young noble with a Great claw charged out of the keep and was surrounded by Skaven forces, but his tough hide allowed him to survive dozens of attacks in the following melee.
The two Harbingers of Stromfels, horrible beasts of the deep, men fused with whales and squids charged into the Dark Elf Sea monsters wrapping them in tentacles. The Merwyrm bit chunks out of the monsters, but assistance from Swamper henchmen with healing salve, dodging Sea Ghost arrows from above, kept the Harbingers healthy enough to fight back against the giants of the deep.
After frenzied attacks from all sides, the Black Caps retreated, routing after heavy casualties, and releasing the Bull Centaur. A feint attack by the Restless Dead got a zombie - chock full of exploding magic - deep into the Ogre ranks, blowing wounds off of everyone. After defending themselves from vicious attacks from the Skaven, the Restless Dead escaped into the night, making them the first of the Evil side to fall, followed closely by the Marauders and a wounded Dark Dwarves.
The Harbingers bloodied and furious had taken down both the Sea Beasts, and charged into the forces outside the gate, only to get a Death Spasm to both their faces from the Sorceress of the Druchii, reverting them to their former foundling states and causing the Reavers to flee the battle.
The Possessed, prepared to charge their remaining forces into the fray but a frenzied Witch Elf attack from above cut through them like butter causing another rout.
The Fimir looked around the bloody battlefield, their allies scattered, though the Skaven had just fled, four armies surrounded them and they made the wise choice to fight another day, escaping - mist wreathed - into the sewer system, leaving their stronghold to the attackers.
The battle was the longest one fought by any of the warriors present, but the victors were clear. They Alliance burnt as much of the stronghold to the ground as possible, and retrieved their prize, Kadon’s Whistle. The Attackers made their way back to MArienburg with their humanoid arrests and skaven prisoners in tow, all in all they suffered 28 injuries that day and lost 5 men, whilst the defenders suffered 9 deaths and 36 wounded. Allegedly in the aftermath of the battle, representatives of the League of Gentleman Entrepreneurs arrived and took the whistle into their custody.
