DN, in an earlier post you said that the mushrooms fit in with your storyline; do you think about that while you are sculpting them? Is there a little plot line running through your head while you are working that affects how they come out?

The story line is a work in progress. The framework is all the fantasy things I have come to love fro Jim Henson/Brian Froud through Terry Pratchett & Tim Burton with a twist of my own. I have found that there are a number of folk who follow my stuff that have their own stories about the place; that is what I try to encourage.
I do spin little tales about the pieces I am working on as I do them. It adds to the fun AND firms up what they will ultimately look like.  clown

I thought that might be the case. Each sculpt is so unique and full of character that it seems impossible that you wouldn't have their whole history in your head by the time you are done painting them. Very Happy

Sometimes I think the Mushrooms are telling me what they look like & what their personalities are. Of course, I am not all that tightly wrapped. clown

I get it. Even when painting the minis frequently tell me what colours to use rather than me deciding.

Colonists with red coats wouldn't suit American Revolution games well.

A sceptic might say you've spent so long on painting & modelling that you've developed an instinctive approach, unconscious, & indistinguishable from some external guidance.

Personally I suspect you've sculpted the necessary idols to release an elder god which has taken control of your mind. Cthulhu f'taghn!

Thinking about it, 18th century stuff would make some splendid looking fantasy miniature...more Louis the 14th than Revolutionary War.  clown

Well if you're looking for a new modelling project, I don't think anything's yet been done with Temeraire...

SO this was going to be the base for the Goblin Brigand Chief aka The Mushroom King that Comsquare kindly send to me. It didn't work out, The King will get a new base & the photo stages have a new tree.

I used a variation of the foliage method that I did for The Spooky Woods photo stage; i.e., mesh & Super Leaf. clown

Will do. I've been "gathering ideas" on how to make some trees for a few years now. It's about time I actually make a few.

At a cursory glance earlier, I thought the purple capped mushrooms were the hands of some beast climbing out of the tree. (Consider this idea in future)

It is still a cool creepy tree, even after I realize my mistake Maudeheim & Environs, Part III: Updated 06/14/20 - Page 29 Beer
