| Great job. I 've been planning a well out of blue foam, but now I'm inching ever closer to getting the clay gun. | |

| Aah... The products of a misspent Saturday night I was hoping to be a little further along until I got remind of a couple of rugby matches today.... I'm sure you'll all spot the.. essential.. building session supplies And a closer view at the well Still to do: * Texture the base, * Roof tiles (Not decided if I'm going to go with the older style rectangular, or crack on with the stamp I've got... * Rivets/bolt heads/Nail geads for the joints | |

| Other than a quick bit of filing once the glue's dry, it's ready for the paint abuse. Have to say, given I tried a few new techniques, I wasn't so sure it would turn out so Well *... * Apparently I'm not as funny as I think I am according to my wife | |

| Your wife is a Lady of discerning taste. That's turning out VERY WELL...I'm similarly lacking as well. Looks like you cast up some capping pieces; those would work well for Italian/Spanish style roofing tiles. I really like the cover you made. Have FUN with the painting. | |

Thanks, The capping tiles were made in the same way as the bricks, just with the half-circle rather than the square. I figure I can use that one, and some of the smaller round ones for veins when I get back to work on my Tyranid terrain. - The Yak wrote:

Kleindorf is looking good Me too, I cut the tiles a little shorter than they normally are - It made them a bit trickier to roughly line up, but worth the extra effort. I'm planning to get some group shots, possibly on Tuesday or so, and so far, our first game is tentatively planned for next weekend. So, onto this afternoon's work: I think the bricks will look better once I've textured the inside & outside to blend them in, rather than looking quite stark against the black of the foamcore. I think on the next ruins I work on, rather than cut the wavy line for the damaged walls, I'll stick with straight (ish) lines, and build up the effect with the bricks. Still, I doubt there's ever a project where you don't learn something. Mind you, I have suggested I build the walls totally with bricks, and then throw rocks at it or fire a BB gun to get an interesting effect. But then, I was reminded that the last time I did anything with a BB gun I managed to shoot myself in the butt.... Still need to finish the rafters and roof supports for what's left of the roof, shutters, door, quoins, some rubble, as well as a few posters to go on the outside when it's painted up...

| I think I need to get myself a clay gun! Does the clay airharden or do you have to bake it? I assume you bake it, but what do I know... The ruins look amazing, and the well looks good as, heh, well. Theo | |

Theo You can get both, I personally use Air-drying Das terracotta myself. Apparently I'm barely trusted to order pizza, let alone trying to bake clay Lass fiddling about too And I think we need to start a bad-pun brigade on here

| So.. After dragging myself away from the well of procrastination, and everything else I'm "Supposed" to be doing The ruins are finally undercoated & ready for the paint-frenzy to start tomorrow night I think there's enough wreckage to suggest the damage, without making it unusable for miniatures... | |

| EXCELLENT...the undercoating shows off the details SPLENDIDLY. The amount of built on damage is just about perfect; you can always add removable clutter if the mood strikes you. Keep on keeping on! | |

Thanks, to be honest - the undercoating is one of my favourite parts of the models - they actually start to physically come together as a single homogenous whole, rather than the separate parts - It's up there with the finished model, and the pile of raw components for me...

| Thanks Guys The wall textures are relatively simple: The ruins use both of the ways I've used on previous buildings. Exterior walls: Ready mixed filler (Spackle) splodged on, roughly smoothed with a finder, then stippled with an old toothbrush Interior Walls: Mix of powdered filler, water and fine sand - enough water is added so that it can be painted on the inside, without being too thin to pool up.run off. This bit took a little experimentation* Hope it helps * Actually, I got lucky first time | |
