it looks like you may have done this already, but cutting the tiles could be made easier with decorative crimping scissors. They are often found in craft stores.

Would those be in a scrapbooking isle or something similar?

I've been cutting these with a hobby knife x.x...my knuckles are sore!

I've never seen scrapbooking scissors that had a design like that one... I definitely doubt it. Look at how every other tile recedes. I can guarentee there aren't scissors exactly like that. There might be some close that would help you out, though. I'd check the scrapbooking stuff.

you probably wouldn't get identical to your current design, but you may get something similar.

This topic raised my curiosity about these decorative crimping scissors... I didn't even know they existed!

I think I found the pattern for tiles:

but these tiles would be too small...

but even with these scissors, you would still have some cutwork to do to separate all the tiles, so I'm not sure if it's really that much of a time-saving...

Yea, those still are very different from your roof tiles... If you find a very HUGE selection, you may be able to find something along these lines:

But the closest thing I've found was this:

/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\

which really wouldn't work...

I'm thinking the tiles are just going to end up being finished the way I started them.

But in the future for other buildings I'll probably start looking into some of those scrapbooking scissors and hope I can find something suitable.

Or maybe I'll just simplify it and make just squares next time! I doubt I will though.....stupid detail affliction....

Thats funny. I've always done the squares since they seem more realistic to me. But I guess I'll find out for sure when you finish this thing Aye?

Unfortunately the inside can't be accessed. This was understood though from the second I started designing it though, and really doesn't bother me much ^_^. I fully intended this piece to be all about experimenting with techniques and maximizing the 'look' I wanted. For a future set of buildings, for a proper mordheim board, I intend to make things a bit more accessible and playable.

It's beautiful Right Now; when this sucker is all painted up it's going to be MIND BLOWINGLY GREAT!
Having a few intact buildings on a Mordheim table DOES supply dead-ground, SO it still serves a purpose, AND there's ALWAYS the sword-fight-on-the-roof thingy. BRAVO on a fine piece of work!

Great piece of scenery Grey! Well done! But as you said, you will also need some accessible pieces.

My tavern is similar to your building, in that I also built it to experiment a little bit.

Some in progress work to post. Painting has started!





All of the plaster panels are fully painted now. Chimney has been base coated and the base is ready for variations and drybrushing.

It does look beautiful! Although I would have painted the chimney the same colour as the house's stone base for a more consistent look. But I'll wait until the finished product. Keep up the good work!

i'll have to agree with cianty's comments, but the red is still a nice contrast. I can't see too well from the photos but have you drybrushed the timberwork? I hope you plan to if you haven't, it brings out the texture so well.

1 more comment though: I agree with Cianty and irwinfella, the chimney is a little too red for my taste. But I'm sure you know what you're doing.

Ever the Devil's Advocate, I rather like the red chimney;re, the way you sculpted the chimney makes it appear to be brick; ergo, it SHOULD be red or a reddish brown, whereas the base of the structure looks to be fieldstone & the grey seems to be an appropriate choice.

I REALLY love the way this is turning out. Do you think you could do a close up of the hanged man?

That is, quite frankly, magnificent!! Very good job and well done for keeping up a consistent rate of work (a skill I most definitely lack). I also quite like the red brick chimney, assuming it's going to be dulled down and grubbied up a little.

Here is a list of some of the things still left to do:

Far from finished right now.

Stonework - highlight and variations (adding reds to carved brickwork in base)
Dark Woods - Possibly one more stage of highlights, we'll see how I feel about it.
Brown Woods - Highlights and washing
Roof - haven't touched the roofing yet. How do folks feel about blue?
Base - Add grasses and bushes, possibly some additional drybrushing if it doesn't match up with my board right
Hanging Man - Needs painted still

So I guess the only thing that is really finished is the plasterwork.
