| A friend and I decided to try and build a modular tabletop gaming table from scratch. We wanted it to be large (8'x4'), foldable, and on wheels. We didn't like the modular setups with only 3 or 4 pieces, so we decided to use smaller blocks. We're creating modular blocks ranging in size from 6" squares to 18" squares. The table itself is built, and we've started working on some of the terrain. Check it out here: http://www.tabletopgeeks.com/

| Ask and ye shall receive! Just managed to get up some pics of the first small block that we're working on. It's a 6" square with a well in the middle.

| I put up a small update with a few pics of progress on the well and meteor pieces. Looks like we're going to need to figure out a good way of doing cobblestone. | |

| The meteor turned out really well. What did you use for the water effects? Did you tint the water or just paint underneath it? If it's not too late, you might want to put some heaped-up earth on the far side of the rock to show what happened to all that displaced earth. | |

| Thanks. We have some clear resin for water. It was not tinted, just painted underneath. We'll probably be messing around with tinting and painting methods to make the water look better, but I'm a big fan of the clear resin for water. As for the heaped up earth... it's not too late. In fact, we were planning on that. We took all the shavings from the trail in the foam and saved them. They actually look like they are going to work well as rubble piled up at the end. The goal will be to make it look like the rubble pile is a mix of dirt, road, and possibly houses or whatever it crashed through. | |

| Nice meteor! The cobblestone is a wierd one, I wonder if there is something you could pour over the top of it like a grout to help even out the surface and fill in some gaps? Or building it the other way, pressing the stones into some putty or something like that. I dunno those options seem like too much labor. | |

| We changed domains. I've updated the original post, but we are now http://www.tabletopgeeks.com/ Also, we took the well apart while we found a new way to do cobblestone. I'll be putting up some posts soon showing off the destroyed well and our new cobblestone setup.

| "Mordheimterrain".. wow, that's a strong domain name. It's also not allowed, by the way. You are not allowed to use GW's copyrighted names in domain names. Don't be surprised if you get a friendly email from the GW IP department... just a little warning.. | |

| Svenn was slightly incorrect, the water in the meteor IS indeed tinted, its a faint blueish green color, and yes it was also painted as well... and the resin has eaten thru in a few spots so well ahve to find out how to avoid that in the future becasue the blue foam is now showing. | |

| There are a couple new posts up now detailing our failures. Like Tewfik mentioned, the resin ate through some of the meteor piece. We also destroyed the Well piece. The good news is that we have hopefully found a good way to do the cobblestone, and there will be a new post up about that soon. | |

| It's nice to see you're putting SO MUCH thought & planning into The Project. With moi it tends to be a more spontaneous thing. With that in mind, a few ideas/additions to your list: Medium Blocks:
- Shops with upper story residences; the possibility of loot gives a rationale for entering the building
- Wizard/Cultist residence; same rationale plus the possibity of doing some in character spooky stuff with the building; e.g., faces coming out of the walls is a favorite with moi .
Large Blocks:
- Cemetery with or without a Chapel of Morr; the Graveyard is a GREAT gaming venue, SO...a large area is justified. The commission table I did had a 2'X4' St. Vollar's Cemetery with Catherdal. After a couple of gaming sessions, I was asked to make a second board for a full table gaming area.
- Garden: the Steinhardt Memorial Gardens are a predominant feature in Mordheim, AND,as with the cemetery GREAT possibilities for gaming & spooky modeling.
- Tavern of the still-in-business-pardon-our-appearance variety. What's Mordheim witout a barroom brawl locale?
- Warehouse(s) in conjunction with the docks: nice spot for a rumble.
Details: Posters/Broadsides/Scrolls: an oft mention observation of mine IS that in Mordheim & the Empire in general folks tend to scrawl their ideas, beliefs, etc. on parchment & nail them to ANYTHING that doesn't object too strenuously. THERE that should keep you busy for a day or two. If you need any help with stuff, give me a holler. | |

| Wow, thanks for all the suggestions! Okay, I have to admit something I'm a bit ashamed of. The lore of Mordheim (and Warhammer for that matter) are not my strong points. We tend to be of the "Let's just play and not worry about stories" type of group (though I'm trying to change that with the larger group we're accumulating, so we can have some good campaigns). So, a couple questions and comments: 1) I was planning on doing the cemetery/chapel as separate pieces, so that we we could use them on their own, or we could put them next to each other. You really think a cemetery itself is something worth a full large block? What kinds of details can we toss in there to fill it in other than gravestones/statues? 2) I don't know what the Steinhardt Memorial Gardens are. Any more info/pics you can give? 3) Warehouses are something I had thought of but forgot to write down! Thanks. 4) Love the posters idea! I'm really looking to fill the world with any details we can come up with that will make it look good, and stuff like this really adds character and flavor. Thanks again! Oh, and pictures of any suggestions are appreciated as well. It's a lot easier to figure out how you want something to look/how to go about doing it when you have some sort of image as an inspiration I think. | |
