Eventually we won out, but we didn't get any of the rare items because all the other warbands routed so we couldn't get them off the board edge. Oh, the injustice. It was Joe's warband that did most of the knife-work, but I had a sniper who excelled himself by taking three orcs out of action and wounding the black pegasus.

The Slippery Fishwife – Issue Four
Cry havoc, dear readers, and let slip the hogs of war. Our town is overrun; yes, by orcs and elves and walking corpses, and more besides. But one grubby group of miniature brigands have risen higher than the rest to become the true menace of Vercuso. They are halflings, squat and fat. Their overfed leader, a vicious little thing named Cormorant Ram's-Eye, has driven his undersized warriors deep into the heart of our fair town. And now, rumours spread of an item that has fallen into his possession – a trinket that has passed through generations of these Mootian people. We truly are doomed.
But, dear readers, they are not the only threat to breach our shores. A cutter was seen to dock upon our island in the stygian gloom of a Vercusian night. Witnesses tell that it remained anchored for only one hour. The mob say that no figures disembarked, but one, a boy of only eight, tells of thick-set, hulking shapes, clothed in black, shimmying down the ropes to slip away into the town. The boy claims to have seen green flesh beneath their dark wrappings.
And put on your Sonntag best, gentlemen, because women have made anchor. Unlike the beautiful maidens native to Vercuso, though, these hags are, from recent reports, wart-swaddled, flummoxed, blubber-laden harlots. But do not go mocking them openly, dear readers. Already they have stoved in the heads of numerous would be suitors and ransacked our beloved market square. They claim allegiance to the god named Sigmar, but none that claim to be holy would murder and slaughter as they have.
And what of the rest of our heathen troublemakers. Vandals and murderers all, they have reduced our fair isle to rubble. Where the docks once stood there now lies a ruin. The thronging crowds have faded; most are fearful of these killers.
And this item, this Seal of Sigmund, still rests in the foul clutches of Darth More and his vulturous lot.
And, dear readers, the greatest threat that our island faces has stirred. The foul necromancer, lurking in his blasted tower at the heart of town, has slithered from his pit for the first time in living memory. With a cluster of rotting minions at his side he entered the market square, moments after a brutal skirmish had taken place among the invaders. He approached the creature that had died at the centre of the square – a grotesque, mangled horse, with blackened flesh and membranous wings and three heads upon its twisted frame – and seemed to tend to it as a nurse tends to a dying man.
And then he rose and screamed. He turned to the few desperate souls that hid about the market square, including, dear readers, one of our off duty reporters, and promised great wealth and power to any who would bring him the Seal of Sigmund. And then he was gone in a puff of charcoaled smoke.
When asked to describe the sorcerer, our reporter could only say that he was masked and gruesomely horned, and had the reek of wet earth about him. But before our esteemed writer could divulge more, he burst into a mad fit and fell stone dead.
What menace now hunts us, dear readers? As always we ask vigilance of you in casting the usurpers from our shores, but in the face of such nightmarish developments, who else is there save us?

| Kommodore Deffgit and The Seal of Sigmund30th March, the year nine. The Ogresun, at sea Sadistic Sisters and Boozy BuccaneersBarnacle Nog looked out over the pitching seas at the sail on the horizon. Through his spyglass and from the high vantage-point of the Ogresun’s mizzenmast crow’s nest he could clearly make out the brightly coloured livery of an Empire ship painted on the canvas: Crossed hammers and a twin-tailed comet. He turned to the Orc standing next to him as said “Reminds me of that time we gave them Sistas of Sigmar a thumpin’ – you know the day we found that empty, unguarded inn?” Kommodore Deffgit didn’t take his eye off the sail but started smiling “Aye, I know the day ye mean. There was maybe a hundred crowns-worth of rum an’ beer just sittin’ there. We coulda sold it for nearly half that with no trouble but the crew was a bit over-excited, havin’ just give them Sigmarites a wollopin’, so we ended up drinkin’ the whole lot in no time.” Nog sighed at the thought and licked his dry lips. | |

| Kommodore Deffgit and The Seal of Sigmund2nd April, the year nine. The Ogresun, at sea
Questions Answered
Sunlight flooded in through the grand expanse of glass behind him. Kommodore Deffgit leaned back against the exotic oriental cushions piled against the bulkhead. Foul-smelling smoke filled the great cabin from his clay pipe, as he puffed on the stem he looked around at the opulent foreign luxuries piled around him. The hold of the Empire ship had been thoroughly searched and the best examples of its contents had been brought up and piled haphazardly in this, the largest and best-lit space available.
“So you reckon all this loot came from Araby then Nog?” said the ancient one-eyed Orc to his companions.
Barnacle Nog looked up from his close examination of a glass container with a tangled mess of pipes coiled round it “Aye, it has the same reek of spices and incense that the stuff from Lashiek had.”
“So not from Cathay?” said Deffgit “Should we be headin’ south again to see if’n we can’t get hold of more? It looks to be worth a pretty penny or two!”
Nog shuddered at the mention of Cathay “No, not so far flung. Aye, I would say so – if they have rebuilt their cities enough to be exportin’ fancy good to the Empire again then they’ll be worth a closer look… Even if we just take the fat merchant ships on their way north.”
The Kommodore perceived the reaction that Nog tried to hide and thought back to the time when the Ogresuns first crossed paths with Cathayans…
~ ~ ~
It was a dark and the crew of the old Ogresun were holed-up in a large ruined building for the night. Look-outs were posted and fires were lit. Grog bottles had been passed around more than once and it felt like it was going to be a quite night.
Until a volley of crossbow bolts whistled in through windows and broken walls from all sides and thudded into the floorboards around the prone pirates. Curses rang out into the night as the buccaneers roused themselves and rushed to action. As the Pirates took up their positions at windows and behind crumbling masonry they could just make out the black-clad forms looming in the shadows. Gang-planks from their stronghold spanned the streets below giving access to several of the surrounding buildings; these were to become the battleground across which their bastion would be assailed.
The enemy seemed to have formed up in two main groups, each ready to storm the Pirate hide-out in a single action – coordinated by some unseen signal they raced around the precarious wooden walk-ways toward the towering ruin. Shots rang out from those Ogresuns who had been sober enough to find their musketoons and load them but in the darkness few found their mark.
As the first assault party reached the walls of the third floor the Pirates realised that these sneaking assassins were greenskins, admittedly greenskins from foreign-parts, but that didn’t change much since Orcs have never been averse to fighting their own kind, after all, most often they enjoy it!
Shouting battle-cries in a dialect none of the Pirates understood the black-clad Orcs raced along the gang-planks. The forerunner met a grizzly fate as an up-swinging club caught his temple and overbalanced him: as he pitched down towards the cobbled street some thirty feet below he clawed at the wall trying to save himself. The unfortunate Orc dislodged a large chunk of stonework which landed just after he did, extinguishing the momentary celebration of his lucky survival of the fall by landing squarely on his head.
Barnacle Nog roared out “Follow me Ladz!” as he raced towards the group attacking the first floor, he crashed into the two frontrunners and knocked one insensible, the other though ducked under his swinging cutlass and pierced him with a long, straight sword. Another black-robed invader leapt over his fallen comrade and fell upon Nog with a fury.
The Kommodore saw his first mate fall to the path beneath the planked bridge and sprinted to the breach, eager to halt the advancing eastern hordes and avenge his second-in-command. Wyrdtoof Hogbreff the Shaman tried time and again to launch the fires of Gork at the mysterious attackers but the power of the great green would not come to him. The ineffectual sparks crackling around his head attracted a lot of attention though and a flight of arrows sped towards him. He slumped to the cold stone floor and lay still.
The battle was furiously contested but the Pirates constantly held the aggressors at bay, after what seemed like hour they finally fell back, disappearing into the darkness and leaving the Ogresuns to count the heavy cost of their victory.

Here are the hotpot rules:
- Quote :
- HENCHMEN
0-2 Sous chefs 15 Gold Crowns to hire. A halfling warband is never without its catering team who assist the cook in his art. Sometimes these sous chefs can feel a bit left out and will grab whatever kitchen implements they can find to join in the fighting. One traditional but highly controversial weapon is the 'Halfling Hotpot', an improvised catapult which hurls cauldrons of stew at the enemy. Halflings are not in the hobbit of throwing food away, but sometimes desperate times can call for desperate measures!
M WS BS S T W I A Ld 4 2 3 2 2 1 4 1 7
Weapons/Armour: Halfling hotpot catapult. Sous Chefs may be equipped with weapons and armour available to Cooks. If promoted, they make take skills available to cooks.
SPECIAL RULES Halfling hotpot catapult - The hotpot catapult is a missile weapon with a range of 24" which must be fired by two models, either sous chefs or the cook (use the highest BS). - The team must pass a Ld test to fire the catapult (halflings don't like wasting food!) - use the highest Ld among the team. - If crewed by two halflings, the hotpot can only be fired every other turn, and cannot move and fire either. If three models are involved in firing the catapult, it may be fired every turn but still cannot move and fire. - Because the 'weapon' is cobbled together from cooking equipment the halflings carry around with them anyway, it is the contents of the pot which have the financial impact on the warband: Every time the hotpot is fired, it will cost the halflings 5gc. This money must be available in the treasury when the shot is fired. - If the shot is on target, the model hit receives a S6 hit from the cauldron itself. In addition, all models within D3" (friend or foe) receive a S3 hit from the cauldron's contents. - If the shot only misses by 1, then the target model receives a S3 hit as the contents still splash over him. - Whether wounded or not, any model hit by the hotpot or its contents must take a Ld test as per the 'All Alone' rules. (This is for various reasons depending on the race of the enemy: the members of more civilized warbands are appalled by the wastage of such glorious cuisine; greenskins and other uncouth races are disgusted by tastes their unsophisticated pallets cannot comprehend; undead are repulsed by the quantity of garlic in the stew; others may be scalded or burned by chilli. But all warbands alike cannot help but be disturbed by the thought that if the halflings are prepared to throw their food at them, they'll clearly stop at nothing...!) - If the hotpot causes casualties, a cook (or promoted sous chef) may gain experience if he helped fire the shot. If two heroes are firing the hotpot, only 1 point can be gained per casualty, allocated to either of them. | |

| Wonderful read, WBK. Cheers to the Flame On! crew that are posting as well. I have enjoyed all of the previous campaigns you have run in the past, and this one is great too. Boys, make sure you take some pics of that ninja greenskin warband as you finish it. We would love to see pics here on Tom's and Da Warpath. Who knows, our next little Animosity Campaign might be set in Nippon or Cathay! Wink and nudge there, mates. I will continue to follow your campaign with interest, and we will continue to wage war in Araby as well. Feel free to join up, people. It will be a fun one! Goomb | |
