PostSubject: Charging   Tue 18 May 2010 - 11:37

Here's another silly question from your friend Burn!

Sorry if this has been asked, but I've been searching for about a month and haven't found my answer yet.

A question of charging came up in our last get together. We've been playing that at the beginning of the movement phase you declare ALL charges, then measure and move. After going through the rulebook and the Errata, I can't seem to find anything that says this is the case.

So is it, declare all charges and move accordingly?

Or is it declare them one at a time and work through your models in that manner?

Thanks!!!

Living rulebook page 9. Charging
Code:
If you want a model in your warband to charge at an
enemy model and attack it in hand-to-hand combat
then you must do this at the start of the movement
phase before moving any of your other models.

so it points out clear u are not allowed to declare a charge after any model was moved, so consequently all chages have to be declared at the beginning of the movement phase.

Thanks Keylan,

I think I understand what you're getting at with that quote. But I guess I'm still a little confused, as to if there are 4 models I want to charge with do I do all the charges at the same time (declaring who I want to charge with all 4 and working them out in that order) or declare one charge, move that model, then declare the second, move that model, etc. Then proceed with normal movement.

Does my question make sense?

Yes.

The rule states you declare before moving "any other models". It depends on how 'by the rules' you need or want to play. We are fairly lax most of the time since several of us are at the age of chronic forgetfulness.

u have to declare all charges before any models are moved and u are not allowed to measure any distace. So

this is not allowed as u declare a second change after one model moved already.

Consequently u have to declare all Charges at once at the beginning of ur movemant phase. Now u move all the charging Modells and finaly go on with normal movement.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it!

Our group has been playing this way, and to be honest I think its right too! I think it takes a lot more strategy to do it this way.

Thanks again!

First you declare all Charges. Then move your models. This is done so one player doesn’t measure the distance for one model and use this relationship distance, for another model to see if it could also charge. This is also to prevent a player from attempting a charge with one model, measuring the distance, and realizing the rest would be failed charges and declare the rest as shooting instead. Essentially, measuring before charging.

My group declares who’s charging and shooting before measuring distance and/or moving models. With practice, a good player could judge the distance without measuring and be within an inch. This has made for some good bets at our tables.

Yeah with my gaming group we declare all actions for all of our models before the measure ever hits the table. Once measure hits the table all stated actions (Shooting, Charging) are no longer allowed.

Additionally, we stick to a rule that after preforming an action in a particular phase, any actions from the previous phase is no longer possible. For example if you move your guys, then go into shooting and preform a shooting action, but realize you forgot to move a guy ...tough cookies.

And while some people may be lax with that, we find it to add an extra layer of ...HAHAHA I am going to kill your hero you left in the open ...type of play.

We are pretty nice to each other in those cases. As long as we are in the move phase, you can move after the measuring tape has been used, but fo course not charge. In the shooting phase though, its a big no no. But we kinda help each other to keep track of models going:

"What about your black orc standning 2" from my youngblood? You not gonna charge?"

"Hey, dont fortget your reiklander with a handgun! Remember, my vampire is coming at him head on and this is your last chance to shoot."

This is both to keep it "fluff" as we do not want the models to become stupid bots who suddently goes "Warning: Connection lost. Format hardrive c:?" but still goes on and fights kinda autonomously. Even if it kills me Razz

Laughing This is the same boat that I find myself in. My gaming group both 'hate' me for interfering but also cannot deny that my suggestions are often to their benefit and my detriment. I'm a rules sponge so I don't want to play with others and let them miss things that they can do but might not realise that they can do as it feels unfair if I then use those same rules that they missed in my turn against them. But yeah... my losing streak is big probably as a result. Razz

I guess this could be having to do with the fact that I am the most "experienced" player and somehow wants my friends to learn, therefore often reminding them of their options and then letting them decide what to do. It has got to stop. We are contuing our campaign tomorrow, and I'll be darned if I cant win once!

We generally play by the declare-charges-first-then-move-'em rule, but are pretty forgiving if someone messes up.

We of course dont play in a mean way, but we dont offer hints or help remind someone to move their figures. Like I said ..there is a big hahahaa factor when someone forgets ...but then again we have all been friends a very long time and like pointing fun at each other.
