| That is a really good idea; I think I might do the same with my left over pieces of wood. | |

| Thanks for keeping me motivated. "walkways" now I know how to call them, thanks. I liked the modularity of them, and they seem to fill the table quickly. I started to do some more. Now I just need to figure out, how to do the "bridges"... and I need to do a 12-16 of them, I guess. Actually I should finish painting the last house, but I wanted to get more terrain soon. So I will paint some other day. Small update: As this is quite more than left over balsa, I bought balsa sheets. They are way cheaper and cutting them by hand gives them some shape. And I started another small building, pretty much the same like last time, but now not as a diorama gift, now for my table. As I really enjoyed the freedom of making a small house, just from a XPS-Block. Without making it walkable inside, no interior has to be made, and its way quicker to make it. There is such a freedom in the shaping of the hose, if it has not any interior part. I got the urge to fill the table quickly, to have a game somewhen. I made some basic windows out of super sculpey to make a silicon mold, to get some plaster castings done, to glue them on the house: What do u guys think about making houses with or without the interior part? Im not sure by now. For gaming I really like to have walkable/acessable terrain. But from the point of making terrain, I start to like to do them without. How u guys solve the problem? Mordheim has actually broken and destroyed houses, but I actually did not wanted to do broken houses. I liked the idea of having a fantasy city/ village, with some colour. So making just ruins is not the answer for me... | |

| The new building is a beauty. It has a charming, whimsical quality which I find appealing. VERY WELL DONE! Placing miniatures in the building is part of the game, but I prefer making solid buildings without access to the interior. I like balconies, walkways & external upper story connections, but then I don't play the game. | |

| Thanks deafnala, i appreciate ur steady answering It keeps me motivated to tryout new things and getting closer to my gaming table. Yeah... i Still need to figure out how I make my buildings. Interior, no interior.... or I just dont care and do a mix. The look of buildings of a solid block, and buildings with interior is totaly different... Not much new to post, im still waiting for my siliconmold to dry. But, to put it on my to-do-list for painting. Some scatter terrain out of leftovers, and failed plaster castings. And a tree that I did not finished for ages. It was my first try with greenstuff couple of month ago, I did'nt liked the tree at all, but I decided to turn him quickly in terrain. To fill the table!!! | |

| Nice work on the walkways -- they're a great way to fill the table, & to give some more height to games. If you can make some buildings that will connect to the walkways they'll be even better! Add some balconies or platforms to future buildings, & it should connect the pieces together perfectly.
As for whether or not to make the buildings accessible -- you isn't necessary, especially if you have other things (like towers & walkways) to make your table interesting & complicated. & making them solid avoids any rules about opening doors or locking them, or trying to draw line of sight out of a leaded window in the middle of a gaming table...

| Great updates! Working with balsa is great! It's easy to work with and you can really let your imagination flow while building. - DeafNala wrote:

| I make all my buildings for Mordheim ruined but solid buildings seem faster to make and eliminate a lot of potential game issues as Rhydderch pointed out. Ruined buildings don't need super detailed interiors though; most of mine are painted quite simply with little clutter for easier placement of models. | |

| Thanks to all ur comments, about making houses. I guess I will do a mix of interior and non-interior. Thinking about it makes me stop... I in the few games that I had, was'nt used much. Just some Snipers , but some wyrdstone in the second or thid storey of a building gave some nice moments. Also If a warband is has less XP movability seems quite a thing. Skaven are just running across everything, humans fail at 50% climbing a wall that is bit over 1". haha.
Maybe a update is coming soon, some painting done last days.

| So here is a small Update of some Progress: I was playing arround with the ways to paint, faster or easier ways. So this house is finished, maybe some greenery and some small things to paint, but maybe its like this. I tried out new things, the rooftiles are just some watered down blue, on almost white basecout. Its quite quicker and I like the result much more. The proof that there is a balcony connectible with my walkways:) . : The small house got some paint, roof tiles gonna come soon. I tried out to give everything a brownish-wash and drybruh evertything, painted everything like the wood. And than just drybrushed the walls a bit more. And the gave the stones some color. Its much quicker. And i like the result by now. And here is the next building. I made the basic shape month ago, for a neat street section. But i gave up, and now I just wanted to finish the building quickly. But Im not quite sure where to go by now: Its also usuable like this: So thats the result of last days. | |

| OUTSTANDING WORK! You have a WONDERFULLY bizarre imagination. The buildings all have a delightful whimsy to them with just a touch of sinister...very Mordheim. I love your color choices...I may have to do one of my buildings with a blue tile roof now. | |

Hey, thanks, i need to check that movie out next days!!! Yes, I thougt about making dublicates with silicon molds. But its kinda difiicult as this building has no clear symmetrical angles... so it will be a pain to get every fittig. And to do a full silicon mold for every storey, i would need silicon about 150€ I guess... If u want to do an investment let me know, haha. U will get copies of that building. Jeah, it was kind a lot of work to sculpt everything by hand, like severall windows, beams and doors. Its my favorite building by now. But also the most time consuming one. Im really looking forward to find a way to cast several things. To sculpt once, with more time and beauty, and to do casts then. But its quite a way to go haha. - DeafNala wrote:

Thanks, jeah this forum, also ur posts, encouraged me to go more colourfull. Dooing a colourful roof is my favorite. At this roof I mainly "inked" watered down blue on whitish basecoat. I want to try different basecoat colours, like Orange and so on, to get more blasting or poping results in colour. Also Im looking for a way to make violett roof tiles. last time it turned out like this:
But it has been some progress since then, its a 6-9 month old building. Next one will be more strong violett. Best wishes and thanks to u all guys.

| Ooof, I've missed out on some very nice updates! Teach me not to visit more often.
Really cool new buildings there, & good to see you methods getting both better & quicker -- the ideal combination!
Going back a bit, Codsticker's right that ruined buildings don't need to be too detailed -- between fire & looting, you wouldn't expect much to be left in them anyway. So scorched interiors might be the way to go.

true that. The pace and the amount of terrain is kinda intimidati at first. So I started to cut down ideas, into pieces... but still the imagination and the real process are 2 different things, haha. Sooo a small Update!!! I wasn't in the mood to paint, as i failed at some point at the last building. I thougt it would be time saving to paint the house, and then do the rooftiles and then paint them, but, no dosent work for me. Mixing building and painting could be time saving, but it always turnes into a mess. In the search for motivation and ideas I put my buildings at the gaming table all together, like setting up terrain. Wasn't more than some houses on a brownish surface... So I came up to make some more modular-elements to make vary townstyle things. They just need to be hit with a rock and get painted: I tried out how they would fit together with the houses and the crates that i did, i like it, will be a horrible mess to have a game on there, but the last mordheim game was 6 month ago, so... A small possible setup with some minis. Should be enough to fill a bit more than a 1/4 of a table. And i could not restit to take a scenic shot, haha: Amazed by gettin closer to a gaming table I just did some more platforms and allot of stairs: Different style in the setup but, filling almost a half table: So thats it. I need to think about colour. The table is already brown, if I just paint them the platforms grey its kinda boring. But maybe some staticgrass is the way to go.

| That is a great start to a Mordheim table. The second layout is much better than the first as it does not favour either melee or missile based gangs. The dense layout would make the melee dominant gangs too powerful.
I would not worry about sticking with grey stonework, with the coloured roof tiles you only need to add in coloured drop in scenics like damaged market stalls, wagons/carts, barricades, banners on the walkways etc to give a great overall impression.

Ah, good to now, the games I had were totally ranged-warband dominated, like everyone tried to stay in cover all time. So I painted the first half of the platforms, took it easy and just used some layers. and but some green, yellow and reddish colors in there. as my main color is blue, I ask my self why I didn't go for grey with blue and violet. I have the feeling its not really matching with the buildings. but we will see. also in the buildings the colourful roofs and the natural colors are not really matching always. Maybe I try blue-grey on the other ones.
