| That's a pretty damn impressive start! I like the giant Tower of Doom, fully familiar with how little impact the upper foot or so of that will have on gameplay... but the lower level stuff is great too, with a wonderfully organic quality of an unplanned mediaeval city that just grew that way, all tangled and weird. Very cool, & very Mordheim.
Also, just an impressive use of basic materials. Seeing so much pre-made GW scenery, I sometimes forget how much can be achieved with cardboard tubes and patience.

| I like the rubble a lot. First because I am of the opinion that most gaming tables don't have enough rubble on them. But also because it's a nice alternative to ladders to get to the first floor. | |

| I imagine all that rubble also makes the piece good & solid, & helps weigh it down on the table. Altogether, a grand looking piece! | |

| OH but I do LOVE tall pieces. The Tower is just the thing. AND your ruins are GORGEOUS. OUTSTANDING WORK! You are quite right, i.e., this is the spot for W.I.P. pieces. The Scenery & Terrain section also gets more attention that the Gallery. SO, if you like comments, this is the spot. | |

| That's better! I can see them now. Great stuff! Timely inspiration too as I am going to build something similar for my Mordheim table this fall. | |

| I don't have an opinion on the beams, just wanted to say it's still a great project! | |

| It looks good either way I think but if I had my preference I would go "without". I would only go with the diagonal supports if you had fewer vertical beams. | |

| First of all, love the project! Regarding the extra beams, I would say add more, but not cross-beams. Many timber-framed houses used more wood than necessary to support the structure, it was a sign of wealth and status. Many used a lot of decorative beams. I would consider a horizontal beam across the larger ones, very common in style, or even a few decorative pannels if you can manage it. Google "Little Moreton Hall" for an over-the-top idea if you feel like it! I wouldn't say go that far, but having the panels on either side of the windows decorated feels about right to me. Whichever option you choose, you have yourself a beautiful WIP there! | |

| I like the extra beams -- they give the building just a bit more character, without over-doing it.
As for Little Moreton Hall, it's also worth knowing that the black & white paint was a later alteration. Originally, it was reds, yellows, & blues. The mind boggles.

| Thanks for the replies everyone, much appreciated! General opinion seems shifted towards more beams, so I propose the following: I had to move one of the windows, as I realized it was right in front of the chimney, which didn't make a lot of sense. Taking the chimney into consideration for the subsequent windows, I settled for this window layout. Regarding the diagonal beams then, I think a repetition of the upper and lower floors is more ordered than mirroring them. This way, the diagonal beams do not form awkward angles with the small crosses underneath the windows, which seems to me far less messy. I did consider horizontal crossbeams instead of diagonal ones, but as I did not put the windows in the (vertical) center of the floors, I thought this led to a more staggered, unbalanced look. I've not yet glued the crossbeams, so I'm still open for any suggestions or disagreements! That Little Moreton Hall is a great suggestion! I'ts an absolutely stunning building, thank you for sharing! Here's some more pictures of the rest of my building, in case anyone's interested: I made sure the doors of my city gate also fit this archway as well, in case I want this particular road blocked off during the game. | |
