I tried some new techniques on that house.
I impressed all of the space between the beams on the outsides of the upper floors, so that there is not just a plane surface.
On my other houses I also used always this method :
1) Slightly mark beams with a pencil and a ruler
2) Carve the lines in with a scalpel and the ruler
3) Depress the lines with the pencil
Now I only used step one and then I free-handed depressed the lines with a ballpen.
So I think the transitions between the different regions are more softer (especially on the stonework) and you automatically (and sometimes intentionally) add some irregularities.

A little sign of life from me.
The house is still in the work.
Yesterday I found some kind of column or memorial when I was browsing the internet and I wanted to have something similar.
So this is what I put together.
In each niche I will place one or two candles.
I'm not sure whether I will use it for my graveyard or just as a memorial on the roadside...

That is a COOL little piece. The candles are a SPLENDID touch. GREAT WORK!

And here is the intermediate state of my "skyscraper"!  
Just basic colors with some drybrush. Dirt and weathering I will add later on.
(At the moment I'm in the mood of building some ruins like the "snake-house" in my other thread...   )

Despite the fact that I was not active here for a while, I at least managed to build a new house.

You used your time away in FINE fashion. The two in the works ruins are BEAUTIES. TERRIFIC WORK & WELCOME BACK!

I like your foam carving- the stones look great. You also remember stairs and fireplaces, which I continually forget .

Awesome scratch-builts. Love it!

I wanted to bring some more "life" to my buildings.
(First I wanted to add some cabinets, shelves, tables, ..., but that would limit the space you have to place the miniatures inside the buildings.)
The buildings we used in the past had just their walls... Nothing inside...
There weren't things like stairs, chimneys and not even e roof.
So most of my buidings should have those three things.
Either intact or destroyed...
(And our Dwarf-Player always says : We need more stairs and ladders!!   )

Playability is important for me.
Therefore my doors, windows and the ceiling height are bigger than they should be (if you would built them with the proper scale).
And big men hands should also be able to move the miniatures inside!!

The minis that drive me crazy are the ones who insist on holding their swords straight up. Take those out and we could all build at a much more reasonable scale.
