Sorry I have been busy, in between games have been getting sick T_T but I am better now and trying to catch up. I know I missed a battle or two in there so we will instead start with something very special.... The Saxon games..... but first... a quick diversion into the field of Giants, or "More reasons why Alex is snowballing out of control"
THE GIANT FIELDS!!!!
Now we had 8 players available for this monday event battle so we set up two tables, (4 teams per table) On each table, two sleeping giants, guarding their own hordes of treasure. Everyone had heard the rumors of this roaming clan of looting giants, why they wanted the treasure was anyones guess but the promise of such riches and the glory of felling giants were just some of the many reasons drawing everyone to the fields. The game was a modified 'dont wake the giants' scenario.... with the giants being a little less strong and the treasure only going to the players who slay them (as well as extra campaign points) but their stats were reduced to give most war bands a chance to fight them...some of us like the Wolves could take them as they were but.... most other war-bands haven't scaled out of control like we have. Even the orks, while strong, due to injuries had half of his force sitting this one out!!!!
A quick glance at the altered giant stats:
The two tables:
Table 1 (not the one the Wolves chose)
On this table we had our newer Reikland warband, the Skaven Warband, a Dwarf Warband, and the at this point battered and beaten monk warband. (poor cathayans....more on that later)
And the Table the wolves chose to deploy on:
The Wolves of Stirland Deployed in this corner, the marksman choose an advantageous position on top of the building with the majority of the foot infantry in front, watching the giant but still not wanting to approach til they assessed the threat.
The cavalry took up a rearward position for two main reasons, one to act as a reserve when needed and to keep the impetuous Percival from rushing forward due to his frenzy.
And the view of the first of two giants from their deployment.
Grimmick's skirmishers deployed to the wolves left.... still having less on the field thanks to many heroes sitting this one out (perhaps they all drank a bad batch of mushroom grog and chose to blame their absence on 'field injuries')
Meanwhile the Vampire chose to deploy the majority of his forces in a tower, unsure how he would approach the threat... and I somehow lost the image of the Restless dead however.... they deployed in the last remaining corner...
A quick masterful volley from the crossbowmen was let loose into the closest sleeping giant, waking him instantly but with a massive headache as 3 wounds were stripped in a single salvo of bolts!!! (str 4 crossbows, even in the hands of middenheimers should never be underestimated)
Turn one just starting and the first giant was down to 2 wounds! It would still take a 6 to take him out of action on his last wound but we were lined up to make short work of him!!!
The rest of the Wolves, under Viren's guidance were told to hold back, less the giant immediately charge them out of anger! For now the giant was still stunned from taking the bolts stirring him from his dream and in his groggy state was just standing scratching his fresh wounds in confusion (noone was in charge range)
Percival rushed forward on his own quest for glory, and to threaten the Ork and Vampire's plans to take on the second giant alone.... he was tired of being judged for taking Maximillians place and needed to prove himself worthy, maybe then one of the DuBois girls may look on him favorably.
The restless dead player, in an act of cunning sent his raised skaven hero zombie after the giant, both confident he could just raise him back and to try to lure the wounded giant away so he could steal the kill. He managed to lure him away but the zombie was immediately squished underfoot. Not to be deterred the bolts flew from the crossbowman and stripped another wound from the beast!
Meanwhile the cavalry moved up ready to charge to reclaim their rightful prize! No lich was going to steal this glory from Stirland!!!!
Meanwhile the other giant was awoken and rampaging through the ork lines as two of the ork boyz attempted to tie up Percival.
The Cavalry and Emeline charge in!!! (Emeline's 12" sprint is fantastic even if she has to wear light armor to make use of it)
And the first strike, Ser Ivan of Hedge the black knight (Freelance knight) with his higher initiative struck with his mighty lance aaaaaaaaand....
BOXCARS!!! Both wounds that went through were enough to kill the beast!!! Giving the Wolves the first treasure, 4 campaign points and earning Ser Ivan a mighty 2 experience for being the one to fell the brute!
If that wasn't enough.... Percival on the orks turn managed to fell both leaving him free to go after the other giant.....
And with his spear and frenzy fury Percival himself not only nets two ork boy kills but fells the second Giant as well!!! Tis looking like its a good day for Stirland!!!!
Alex, Emeline, and Gregory quickly mopped up the vampires two wolves he sent in to try to snag the giant kill as well as the graveguard and zombies sent by the restless dead forcing a rout from the restless dead player. On the other side of the field, having no giant left to earn glory and loosing boyz fast, Grimmickz crew decided to make for camp and let the others fight over what was left.
The Wolves started to consolidate towards the middle to draw the lines of battle vs the Vampire, who they assumed must have been bitter from letting two giant's and their treasure slip through his bony fingers.
Percival however, despite his best efforts to heed Viren's plan...decided that he still had to just go over the top to prove himself and charged forward into the approaching ghouls!!!! Taking one of them out! And after seeing both Giants fall to the Wolves, and an imposing formation approaching....
The Vampire chose to withdraw leaving the Wolves to carry the day in the best possible way!!!
The battle couldn't have gone better for them and in the treasure hordes, even after paying for the upkeep of the hired swords, the Wolves still earned over 200 gold from the battle, as well as finding 3 suits of light armor, 2 lucky charms, an axe, and a master mordheim map (their second one!!!)
Also I had finished a painting commision for another player (the store owners) npc bandit warband in the meantime.
Basically knife throwing bandits and brigands!!! Les does great converting work and the force has a really unique and dynamic vibe!

THE SAXON GAMES!!!!
Every campaign with my local group (this is some of the leaders 8th or so, even though it is my first, we run a big event called the Saxon games.. named after and sponsored after one of the early heroes from the groups first campaign, the Skaven Saxon who became a self declared mayor of Mordheim and even bribed most of the other warbands to agree to elect him to that position. Since then he has held onto his self appointed title by means of bribery, deceit, cunning and of course, appeasing the people by hosting the Saxon games!!! The Saxon games are big arena battle royals where every warband or mighty hero come to test their steel and win glory, honor and fabulous prizes!!! Of course, often the games are very bloody and many times Saxon has special tricks up his sleeve.
This season, the games were hosted on the site of an old Noble's keep perched on a rough bit of earthworks giving it a perfect central stage.
For the games, everyone sends a single model, so yes every player on the same table. Now our group has grown with a few newer players (who we caught up as best we could first with levels, experience and gold) swelling the battle to a 10 'man' murderfest. After much debate between the two sisters, mostly with Emeline's protest at her cousins' rise to glory, it was clear Alex would be the one sent to the game.
(also finally got around to almost finishing mounted alex (still need to affix cape)
Now before the battle, we had a quick skirmish (weekly game) vs the Monks who unfortunately in the week before had a bad run in with Grimmicks boyz killing at least 6 of the monks and the leader, and in the battle after vs giants his new leader after felling one of the beasts, took a skaven sling to the back of the head and when he awoke he was robbed!!!! Not good luck for the monks who are now barely a handful of men strong.... however it was a quick 'gentlemanly battle' where we routed at first opportunity not wanting to hurt either before the upcoming saxon games.... and in that battle managed to earn enough and get the rarity roll needed to get Alex a suit of Gromril armor!!! Just in time for the games.
Alex deployed first, being the top position warband going into the Saxon games with Grimmickz boys closely bringing up behind. Unfortunate that the restless dead player, even with plenty of options to choose from chose to deploy near Alex, and in his first move which he could only move 3 inches due to his broken leg, got him right into her charge range...
And in a manner of moments, Alex drew first....blood?....as she killed....well...re-killed?...un-undeadified?...put to rest the black guard.... and moments later after the injury chart was rolled, it turned out she had vanquished him for good, getting the first kill of what was already shaping up to be a bloody Saxon games turn one!
Alex then moved up onto the center hill, to scout out her competition and look for targets, she then saw a roguish dwarf looting one of the chests Saxon had scattered about the field... these often continued random drugs or poisons the player could immediately take (even if they were undead) and take advantage of their abilities for the battle, and the long term consequences or be filled with an explosive trap! The dwarf had found madcap mushrooms in there but before the slayer could make good use of them... Alex was upon him and through her lance and Avenger's hooves, the brought the dwarf low.
Meanwhile Grimmick's shaman looked on. He was the biggest threat outside of Alex, having 3 wounds at toughness 5 with resilient as well as a great weapon and his spell (lets go) letting him always strike first, even with his greatsword... a terrifying foe indeed.
Alex decided to backtrack to the sounds of battle on the other side of the tower, she barely saw the greenskin behind the tree and wanted to save that encounter for last if she could. She quickly saw the Vampire who had eluded them before locked in combat with an albino saurus warrior!!! She had never seen one of these 'dragon skins' before and he looked terrifying, the Vampire barely managed to knock the beast down.
Alex saw her moment and charged the fallen beast... hoping to free up the Vampire so he would finally fight her in a duel.... what a chance for glory that would be, to slay a vampire!! As he lance struck the Saurus fell, unfortunately the wound was fatal and the beast drew its last breath that day... The player was new to our group and had scaled up but also put alot of his eggs in one basket putting his two high rarity rolls and much of his gold into a suit of gromril armor and a claw of the old ones for him (just like alex had) we later realized he couldn't take gromril armor but it didn't matter at that point as he was now in the honored dead pile.
But the Vampire did not take the opportunity to meet Alex honorably, instead he ran into the tower... So stunned by this sight Alex did not see the new Reiklander (another fresh addition) who had taken advantage of the confusion to slip into the small watchtower behind Alex level his dueling pistol and take the shot.. And what a shot it was!!! with the luck that could have only come from gork or mork, his shot managed to pass through her defenses... and while the crit ignored her armor, she also had both a lucky charm on a 4+ and a 5+ save vs shooting from her amulet of the moon that failed... And with a loud crack the round struck her in the back, knocking the wind out of her and causing her to slump in her saddle...Avenger, not used to the sounds of black powder darted off and Alex was written out of the games. It turned out all was fine and Alex was just winded from the blow but it was quite a suprise and a stroke of luck she was taken out. In the end though, she earned a fair ammount of xp as well as for her place in the tournament the Wolves earned a fair ammount of treasure and even were awarded a free warhorse. in addition Otto Branchford had been promoted to a hero and after Percival exchanged his horse for the warhorse got Percival's old horse for himself. In addition through trading with other players, we also acquired from the Lizardman player who couldn't make use of it, a suit of Italmar armor for Emeline (now shes not only fast but durable) as well as a Hotchland Long rifle from the skaven player who surprisingly didn't want it. We offered him a kings ransom for it as well, over 50 gold, a handful of knives and other small arms, suits of armor, a pair of lucky charms and even one of Viren's two master mordheim maps.
Otto got this rifle as well.... and now from being an awesome crossbowman...he was now an amazing mounted sniper. ._.

GRIMMICK'Z STRIKE!!!!!
Fresh from his Shaman's victory in the Saxon Games, and now not having to sit out due to his wounded leg, Grimmick was out hunting to prove himself the true champion and leader of Mordheim, the Wolves were out as well, looking for a new place to make camp outside of the city and heard about an old ruined castle chapel on the outskirts of town. Unfortunately, it was not to be a place of rest and instead they were quickly thrown into battle vs their rivals. Thanks to his victory in the games, Grimmickz boys had just lept ahead of the Wolves in campaign points, now 1 point higher, meaning this battle would either tie us or increase the orks lead! Alot was at stake and not just a beautiful camp site!
The Battlefield!!
The ruins of the Church of St. Abernathy
For this Scenario, we rolled wyrdstone hunt and had 3 shards of wyrdstone on the field.
The current state of the Wolves of Stirland!!!
Front row is Emeline, now clad in her Italmar armor, Viren who just gained a new skill (tactician) and was eager to put it to use, Gregory, now clad in armor and with two pistols and two swords a fearsome force to be reckoned with especially with his ws of 4, 2 attacks, and 2 wounds. And the Tilean Marksman Reginald with his bs of 5 (and thanks to his skills hes always hitting on a 2+ now) and now with quick shot is firing two bolts a turn ._.
The next row is the newly added (found ANOTHER prisoner swordmaster after the Saxon games) Duncan McDowed who joins Mordred Aster and Ser Benwick for a trio of ws5 2 attack swordmasters clad in heavy armor with shield helm and sword as well as Marco Branchford, the now non heroic crossbowman who does heroic deeds anyway.
And last but CERTAINLY not least is my full on cavalry force, Percival on the left who now is clad in Heavy armor, shield, warhorse, spear, sword and like all my heroes now a lucky charm and rabbits foot (seriously, next campaign were making them one per army each cause its just ridiculous at this point), Ser Ivan of Hedge who not only causes fear from being the "Giant slaying black knight" but also has 2 attacks. Then we have Alex....Alex.... has become a goddess and more on that after the battle... just... She may not cause fear on the tabletop, but psychologically she is the most terrifying hero in our campaign. And then we have Otto with his new position as hero and new items being a horse, light armor, shield, hotchland long rifle, spear, dagger, helmet, Lc, Rf, and his old crossbow should he ever be so inclined to use it.
The Wolves won deployment and chose a rather strange deployment, Grimmick knew Viren was a master tactician and knew this was just him surveying the orks position before redeploying.
After Grimmickz boyz deployed, Viren readjusted his line.
Grimmicks boyz spread out ready for battle!!!
And the two sides face off.
Grimmick's Boyz
Wolves of Stirland
Viren ordered the troops to move up towards the center, even though it was a natrual choke point the ruins in the center would be the natural place the battle would take place.
Meanwhile Alex took the shard in the graveyard and moved up the far left flank, while Ser Ivan moved up the right
Grimmickz boyz moved closer, the tide of greenskin was a fearsome sight, but the Wolves had grown used to the sight of their rivals fearsome appearance.
Some of the golbins scrambled onto the well...
But a masterful shot from Reginald Lottwood send one to a watery grave in the green water.
Meanwhile Emeline and Percival lead the way for the others through the pass.
As the orks, all to eager to see battle drew closer!
Meanwhile two goblins tried to sneak around towards the graveyard, to help cover the flanks and because they wanted to get a shot off at where Grimmick suspected Alex may be.
And there she was! But she charged first and in a flurry of blows easily brough the small greenskin low.
Meanwhile Viren and the footsloggers did their best to try to keep up with the others as Emeline and Percival charged in.
Ivan as well charged on his side taking out his ork boy with ease as Reginald sent covering fire to knock down the fearsome bigun nearby.... he was actually fearsome now as Grimmick had won a black executioners hood from the Saxon games, so now this ork was frenzied with a claw of the old ones and was all sorts of scary... and quite the threat to Ivan..
Percival easily made short work of the ork boy in front of him as Emeline knocked her foe down, and as expected Grimmick's boyz lead a massive counter attack!!!
However save for the song of steel on steel and bone... little was achieved.
Alex, darted past the goblin, hoping to use her dueling pistol to knock off the goblin failed to connect but she still positioned herself to threaten the flanks and rear of Grimmicks horde.
Meanwhile, Grimmick and one of his bigun's joined the fray!!! But even with striking first thanks to the magical energies of their shaman....failed to down either of their foes... Meanwhile both Percival and Emeline knocked down their opponents....
And a charge from Gregory to help meant Grimmick himself was taken out of action with a coup-de-grace as was the other ork.... The shaman, not wanting to risk any more greenskin this day chose to grab the boyz and git while the gittin was gud, choosing to rout and leave the wolves to carry the day!!!
So now the Wolves are back tied for top spot! And more importantly Alex, has gone from a 17gc youngblood to a heroine deserving the praise of any of the heroes of old.
To get a sense of where she is now....
Ws 3 Bs 2 Str 3 T 4 W 2 I 3 A 2 Ld 6
But she is also Hardened (Immune to fear), Step Aside, Resilient, has Ride, Mighty blow, and Advanced Weapon Training.
And she is armed with a Dueling pistol, Claw of the old ones (Dubois family greatsword) giving her a +1 str sword attack that ignores armor, a lance, and for armor Gromril armor, Shield, Helmet, Wolf Cloak (chainmail lined cloak), Amulet of the Moon, Lucky charm and Rabits foot as well as rides Avenger, a Barded Warhorse.
That gives her vs shooting attacks, no penalties for being a large target (-1 to hit thanks to amulet of the moon) as well as a 5+ invuln save vs shooting before her 0+ armor save vs ranged fire.
In Melee she is resilant so -1 to wound her, as well as having a 5+ step aside save and a 1+ armor save.... and now toughness 4 with 2 wounds...
this in addition to her re-roll from rabits foot and 4+ to ignore first hit of game thanks to lucky charm....oh and her sword letting her parry....
So in short shes hard to damage.......
Then on the offense..... she can either strike with her lance on the charge.... or even if charged, her claw of the old ones is giving her 2 str 5 ignores armor save sword strikes with a dueling pistol added in.... oh and lets not forget her warhorse avenger's attacks....
In short shes come along way from just a cheap youngblood.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also I have been a little busy with other projects, our group is alternating between mordheim and Heralds of Ruin Kill team, basically 40k Mordheim and I've been working on both an ork and Chaos kill team for them.
My Blood Axe Warband Wip, all Military themed.
With their Leader, a Kommander Boss Meganob
And my Chaos Warband, alot more models than I need but building it for the second one, (kill team campaign after this) and if anyone of my friends wanted to join but didn't want to make a big investment they could borrow them for this upcoming one so wanted to have options they could take.
Anyway..... Other battle tomorrow!!! Ill make sure to have that one up sooner than these .... sorry about that. hope all this makes up for it lol.
