quick update today. made a little progress...

candle holder with stairs built to lead up to the "pool."


did some sanding to both the back of the stairs, and the front of the candle holder, and working on blending the two with some joint compound.




not entirely sure how well it's gonna turn out, but I'm gonna give it a shot.

That's coming along VERY NICELY...it does have definite possibilities. The stairs look GREAT & I love the Angel's expression.

it took cyanide a couple of tries to really nail it, but they did a really decent job with Blood Bowl. I'm really hoping that Focus doesn't butcher this one.

well, it's been quite a while since I've had anything new and exciting to post. real life gets awfully all-consuming at times... anyway, I was watching "A Knight's Tale" for the hundredth, or so time this week, (I REALLY like that movie for some reason) and I really liked the village sets where the jousts were taking place. looking at the buildings in the film really got me inspired to try something new. I decided to build 3 "buildings" all in one piece, all crammed together. I know many others have built pieces like this before, but I've never tried it before. I came up with an idea that I liked, and started drawing on foamcore. here is what I have so far:



not much to look at so far, but it's one of the more complex pieces I have ever done. the section on the left is a 5" square, 3 floor house. the center is 4" square, 2 floors. the right side is 4" at the base, with a stepped section widening the whole thing to 5" starting with the 2nd floor. the section on the right will also have a modular bridge/balcony at the 3rd floor. 3 separate "buildings" all in one piece, on one base.

not much to look at so far, but I hope to remedy that in the next week or so.

It looks like a FINE START! The potential is there for something really cool. Have FUN with it!   

made a little bit of progress today. I now have floors, and lego windows installed. just need to work on a couple of angled pieces for roofs, and "construction" will be complete. from there, just lots of detailing. I'm thinking about trying a dormer window in the middle section roof. never tried one before so I'm thinking it's high time.

thanks guys! I'm enjoying finally making some new terrain again.
on the legos... I ordered them straight from the lego website. just went to the individual bricks section, and scrolled through until I found what I liked. they were only about $.15 a piece, for the window frames, the panes were another $.15. still, I got 10 complete windows for $3.
I picked up a few other pieces as well that work ok for detailing bitz. just shave or sand off the connector pieces and you're good to go.

Any chance you've got a link to the window pieces you used? LEGO's site is not the easiest thing to navigate...

No, their site isn't particularly easy to navigate. I could give you the part #s since I still have the invoice, but searching those brings up nothing.

This SHOULD bring up the the whole pick and brick interface. On the left is a column for sorting. At the bottom of that list is a sorting option for Doors & Windows. Select that, and it will narrow your options significantly.

Well I'm not much on searching web sites, but if move the category down to "windows & doors" & hit search, you get 5 pages of windows & doors.  

Yessir, gotta use the sort function.

yes it is. it's worth it though. now that i'm homeand in front of an actual computer, and not just my phone, i tried to see if i could narrow the scope a little by trying to find individual pages for the windows and direct links... and of course, there apparently are none. some of the pieces really aren't intuitive as far as how they are categorized, but there are lots of pieces that work good for bitz. their shields, for example. while they are far too big and completely flat to use as a model's shield, they are good for exaggerated, shield shaped signs and what not. on my next order, i think i'm even going to pick up a few spiders to use as "creepy" building decorations. you just have to use a little imagination... which most people on this board seem to have in spades.

ok, just figured their site out a little more. if you go to the link i shared above, and then you scroll down to advanced search on the left. for element ID, use these part numbers for the pieces i ordered...

ok, it's late, I'm tired, and the wife is griping at me to get in bed so tonight i'll be a man of few words, and many pics. I got delayed on my most recent project, first by a couple of pinched nerves in my back, and then by life in general. but here is my latest building as it currently stands.













that's all for now. going on vacation in a few days so it'll probably be a couple of weeks before I get any more real work done on it.
