| thanks everyone! this project has definitely been fun. and yes, the Legos work fantastic! the shields next to the front door on the guard tower are Legos as well as the banner pole towards the top. it was two halberds that I chopped up, and glued together. | |

| had some good fortune last week. I went over to a friend's place to make some racket on guitar and he gave me 4 fairly nice resin cast buildings and a box full of Hirst Arts bricks. I've never used either because I have always felt that they look too pretty for Mordheim for my tastes, but now that I have them, I will do something with them. I've been debating on taking a hammer to the resin buildings and making them look suitably Mordheim-ish, but haven't decided yet. With the Hirst Arts stuff... looks like most of the bricks are for the circular tower piece, so maybe i'll make a nice, half destroyed circular tower... or two of them since I have lots of bricks. any suggestions? | |

| CONGRATULATIONS! They look like they have a lot of potential...try a Dremel before you pick up the hammer. At any rate, have FUN with the Goodies! | |

| I'd leave the resin buildings alone except for maybe some changes to the bases to make them less obviously different from your other scenery, but I like options. Like having some non-ruined buildings for Empire in Flames games or Mayhem in Marienburg or the like. | |

| been a while since I have updated. between the mini-me, work, school, the wife, and various other real-life activities, there just hasn't been much time for modeling. I have finally hit a point where I think I have "enough" buildings to start a Mordheim table, and can focus on some ground cover and filler pieces. a couple of months ago, I walked into Toys R Us to look for any toys that might have conversion possibilities. I have seen several people, especially Sean Patten over at ironhands.com, who have made great terrain from converted toys so I'm always keeping my eyes open. anyway, I can across a small barrel of fantasy figures with 72 pieces in it for only $10 and I decided that for that little, I could take a risk and see what it had. the minis were fairly large for 28mm scale, but I never intended to use them as warband models, they will be statues! the set also comes with several walls pieces, a small platform, a few trees, and even a dragon. to start, I took the wall pieces, added some bits and I think they will paint up nicely as is... next, I took the small platform, and again added some bits, as well as a few rocks from outside and a little sand... and for those of you who are observant, yes, that is a classic Undead Blood Bowl team in the background waiting to be painted. and last are a few trees that I made out of a nice stick I found mixed with some bits, and a couple of brown stuff posters. hopefully it will all paint up nice. only time will tell! I know it's kind of hard to see the details in these pictures. I will try and get better shots and lighting when painting is complete. | |

Actually, no. The green lady came in the $10 bucket o' minis from Toys R Us. I need to take the dremel to her just a little to add some character, and then she should be ready for paint. | |

| ok, I'm pretty much done with my first round of ground cover pieces, and I think they turned out quite nicely. the cheap bucket o' minis pieces I got from Toys R Us painted up well, and my first attempt at trees didn't completely suck. I'm feeling kind of good about myself. lol Lots of pics! first up is the small stature piece. she is a good 1/3 taller than the standard 28mm mini, at least. I gave her a little "battle damage" with the dremel, and made a nice little blood splatter on the back side of the platform, with some bloody drag marks. the platform is also decorated with assorted bits, small rocks, and sand. next are the short wall sections. just added a few bits to each one and painted. they really didn't seem to need much else. last but not least, my first attempt at trees... and sculpting with brownstuff. these were fairly simple. I just found a cool looking stick, broke it into a few pieces, pinned the pieces to bases, and added bits, and sculpted a few posters, and added rocks and other fun things. the glue is still drying on the static grass, so that's why it looks a little funny in the pictures. that's all for this project! as always, any comments, suggestions, or criticisms are welcome! | |

| The Statue, walls, & trees all turned out SPLENDIDLY. The various details you added really enhance the scenes...I love the mostly-dead Guy tied to the tree. Creating cool little pieces like these is a fine way to gain experience & build your confidence. GREAT WORK! If you want to kill the shine on the pieces, try either Krylon's Matte Finish or Testor's Dullcote. | |

| thanks, I've been trying to have a little bit of fun with it. I thought having the skeleton tied to the tree would be good for a few chuckles on game night. I did use matte coat. not enough obviously. lol sometimes it takes a day or so to dull a little. it's still slightly tacky to the touch. in normal lighting, you actually can barely notice any shine, but with a bright light pointed right at the piece in order to take photos... | |

| There are some spray finishes that take some time to dry...light coats dry faster. Large areas of a solid color also seem to show up glossy in photos...there is no end to the malicious nature of Cameras. | |

| Thanks for the compliment, the skeleton pieces are from the Kings of War undead set, by Mantic Games. Thewarstore.com sells the Mantic stuff for pretty cheap. | |

| I haven't actually decided, for sure, if it's a giant rat skeleton, or something more like a dog. If it is a rat, it's a frikkin big one. I figured maybe it was the pet of the tied up skeleton, and was hanging around keeping an eye out while the skeleton tried to find a way out or something. | |

| While I'm not really keen on Hirsch Arts, that is a seriously COOL tower...one of the best Hirsch Arts pieces I've seen. The door, interior floor, & trap door make the piece for moi. The fountain has definite potential. Keep up the GREAT WORK! | |

| I'm actually not a huge fan of the Hirst arts piece for Mordheim either. They usually just look too perfect for a destroyed city to me. BUT! Since they were free, I'm not going to let them go to waste. This piece is loosely based on an piece I made several years ago and no longer have. The base, which I have not decided on making flat or a small foam hill just yet, will have some rubble from the tower itself, and a barricade in front of the door... So the arm partially sticking out will make more sense. There will also be a ladder, maybe rope ladder, going up the outside to the second floor. There will be a barrel or something on top of the trap door, keeping in whatever is trying to get out. Another ladder will go up to the roof. The fountain will probably be somewhat similar to the small statue from the last update. I think I'm going to TRY a water effect, which I have never done before. I am wanting a really funky, nasty, dark colored water with maybe a skeleton or two reaching or crawling out. That's the idea anyway. | |

| found something interesting today. the wife wanted to go to goodwill and while walking around, I noticed a candle holder sitting on a shelf and it called out to me. it's an angel like my giant statue is, but the wings are much larger proportionally on this one, though the overall piece is smaller. it is almost 7 inches high though, so that's nearly the same height as my usual 4 story buildings. the wings go all the way down to the bottom of the piece in the back, and this is actually closer to what I was originally looking for with the original statue piece. I'm going to build some steps up to where the candle sits, and that will become a corrupted well or something. maybe have a skeleton climbing out or something. for the couple of dollars I paid, I'm pretty stoked about the potential. | |
