| As the title says whats it like where you live? I'll start. I am not going to lie Thunder Bay, On, Canada has seen better days. If you walk to the coast of the lake (lake Superior) you will see 7 grain silos three of wich (I think) are still working. I mean if you walk out there you begin to think a zombie horde is going to shamble out and eat your brains Last I checked at least 65% of the buildings are starting to rot, 15% are rubble, and 20% are new (and only just, most are from the 80s) The city has a long standing tradition of pulling historical places and putting up uesless ones in there place. No cargo ships stop here any more. The wood mills are under maned and are now going out of business. The overall population is around 109,140 to 122,907 not a big city. We have no buildings over 6 storys and have built outword rather than upword. Other than that we don't got much, no real entertaiment other than the movie theatre, or the large mall we got. We have noe become the regional services center on Northweastern Ontario wich is something. We have one of the lowest crime rates out there too. Look it up on Wikki for more good (and maybe some bad) stuff. What about you guys?

| East of The City, New York City that is, Long Island stretches its fish shaped mass 146 mile out into the Atlantic. While it is widely recognized that there are other cities, to a Longer Islander, NYC will always be The City. The two eastern counties of Queens & Kings, aka Brooklyn, are physically apart of The Island & politially, pschologically, & philosophically irrevocably a part of The City. When you move Eastward into Nassau & on out into Suffolk, Folks stop thinking of themselves as New Yorkers; they become Long Islanders. I'm a Long Islander, have been all my life, & will cease to be only when my heart ceases to beat. For half a century or so Long Island was a booming place of industry...the Defense Industry to be percise; now all those plants are empty, lifeless shells. Since the end of WWII, The Island has been a retreat from the congestion & increasing squallor of The City & it still remains so to those who live on The Island, work in The City, & think of themselves as New Yorkers. Long Island is a place where people did & do either work the land...as in Long Island potatoes & duckling, or the sea...old whaling towns, deep sea fishing boats, coasters, clammers, &, in hard times, smugglers [see reference to my Great Uncle Gus elsewhere]. My town, Sound Beach, is perched on the hills over looking The Sound in Eastern Suffolk. I can look across The Sound & see Conneticut off on the horizon from my deck. It's a maze of twisty little streets, steep hills, & trees. Most of the farms South of my town have been given over to the big, expensive homes of The City Folk, but yet others survive. Along the coast The City Folk keep their pleasure boats, but the fishing boats & coasters still put to sea. Perhaps it will always be so, perhaps not. | |

| I'm about 200 miles directly north of Deafnala, in Vermont. :3
My town, Bellows Falls, sprung up around paper and textile mills during the Industrial Revolution, because of its proximity to the Conneticut River, and became a central hub between the larger cities in the area like Keene, Rutland, Brattleboro and in a larger sense, New York and Boston - all roads, and tracks, lead here when you check a map.
But then the railroad industry tanked, and the mills dried up, and now there's little to no work available to anyone - I myself am unemployed. All the old people who used to work here still live here in their gigantic, four-story Victorian homes, except they all live on one floor and rent out the others, since no one has extended families living with them any longer. The younger people who do live here all work in Wal-Marts and the like, and are, quite frankly, mostly white trash. There are still a few farms around here, but in order to stay in business, they have to ship in poor blacks and Mexicans to work for lower pay. This place is a sink-hole of broken dreams.
Despite that, I live in a fairly nice house on a picturesque, forested hill, over-looking this veritable black hole. I play organ music from the balcony, and paint warhammer minis, and curse the townsfolk and their wretched, mundane lives until the day my army of imported french maid assassins have completed their training, at which point, their first action will be to cleanse this wretched cesspool of humanity and the entire area will be reclaimed in the name of the old gods! Hail Woden! Hail Nuada Airgetlam!

I live with my girlfriend i a rented apartment, and we have access to a small garden. It is a great place with good neighbours.

| I live out on a little farm 40 mins outside of Thunder Bay, we rase horses out here do slay rides and the like. No noise, no rude people, better that the city in my mind. People out here tend to be beaten by the weather and have an happy go lucky mind set. That or there drunk of there rocker. Not bad out here. It gets cold out here in the winter, the coldest temp we had was -40c, thats cold! You can get frost bite in an hour maybe less. | |

| Wow, most of you guys live so rural! Sounds like you live in beautiful places, even with the economic hard times. I'm from the centre of the 2nd city in one of the more densely populated countries in the world, so it's completely different here! Rotterdam is a cultural melting pot with people from all over the world. The main reason why it has grown so much is that it has a very big harbour (used to be largest in the world until Shanghai overtook it a few years back). A lot of the economy depends on the harbour and industry (esp. petrochemical) and it is a really busy, workers city (not a place with a lot of culture). It has had it's share of the current crisis (less trade and less demand for energy) but luckily there is still plenty activity going on. Rotterdam is different from other towns in Holland in that it has no old city centre anymore (the old town was destryed in 1940 by German bombings) which gives room to modern architecture, sky crapers and the like. In fact the area I live in has the most sky crapers of this (tiny ) country. On this picture I live somewhere on the right in the fuzzy background. The old building in the front is "Hotel New York", it's where many Europeans spent their last night before emigrating to the USA with the HAL (Holland-America Line). It still is a hotel/restaurant and large cruise ships still embark here. And finally an overview picture: | |

| I LOVE the photos of the Hotel NY. Chances are the Folks who left Europe for the USA landed here on Ellis Island in the NY harbor...it's now a Museum dedicated to those people who braved the journey to an unknown land. We Americans are a nation of emigrants...even our Native Americans ultimately came from somewhere else. Some were on their way to other parts of the country, but those who stayed, tended to form little enclaves where they could preserve a way of life they loved. I REALLY wish I could post some photos, but being an IT Idiot with a camera of continual contrariness is a problem, AND, due to circumstances, I may soon have to relocate... NOT a happy occasion. | |

I guess that's very likely since AFAIK most boats left for New York. If you think about it it's nice that we each live on one end of that route, one in the "new world" and the other in the "old world".

| One of the things I LOVE about LI is that each group of Folks who came added something of their own to the place. Out on the East Fork there are a couple of windmills still standing from the Dutch settlers, at least one of which is operable...cool, huh?! | |

| I'm in Mexico City, the largest city in the world. Of course, this means it is the most polluted place on earth too! And insecurity, unemployment, corruption, transportation troubles, etc. are the daily bread here. Man, how do I envy you who live in such beautiful places, with those rivers and woods! Anyhow, there are some advantages too! I DO have teathers, museums, stadiums, etc, And lots of artists and performers come to play here. And we have a GW retailer too, but most of the time I buy online (ebay is our friend) due to high prices. Hope to see more beautiful places in the near future from other forumites. Best wishes. | |

| I live in a village in the countryside though what we consider as country would propably be sub-urban for most of you guys. my counrty is one of the most densly inhabited in the world and my province even more so! there isn't a single piece of land here that isn't touched by men. these last few years we've really felt the modernisation as more and more buildings are being tore down for 4 level appartements (which are the tallest buildings around next to the churches and mills) but thank God they haven't yet touched the beautifull historic buildings. My village lies actually on the edge of the industrial area and large harbour of Gent which means I live in the second most polluted 'gemeente' of the country. the effects: we always have snow even if the rest of the country doesn't because the snow sticks to the polluting paricals that hang in the air and the large steel and car industries means it never gets completly dark at night. it's not all bad though: we still have a rather large and familie-owned! brewery (Bios Ertvelde) and a Beer Museum! My village is about 25 minutes drive from the city Gent, where I attend the university and spend my weekdays. Gent was the richest and most important city North of the Alps between the 13th and 16th century, taking over the torch from Brugge (Bruges) and passing it on to Antwerpen. It has a very long and turbulent history, being the capitol of the county of flanders which was during the middle ages the richest lands in Europe. So the cities of Bruges, Gent and Ieper were all richer and more powerful that their feudal lords, the counts and the King of France. Thanks to the fact that after the middle ages it never quite got back to its former glory means that many of the middle age buildings still survive. Now the city still is very authentic even though the current heart still lays inside the 'old' city center. it has lot of culture but alas no GW store. There is a lot of culture in the city like the opera and various theatres but mostly of alternative music. If I had to chose between Paris and Gent I would chose Gent this is a picture of the medieval centre: This is actually the medieval harbour this is where the ships were loaded and unloaded in the very hearth of the city. the river you see is the Leie the 5th building from the left is actually an authentic 13th century building that has survived the German bombardments during WWII! It's the place where they used to store the wheat, now it's just a restaurant all buildings are about this tall, the higher buildings are on the edge of the city and very spread apart but still nothing close to sky crapers - which I think is a good thing! oh and you can also see that I draw alot of inspiration for my Mordheim buildings from the city well that was just about enough ranting for today | |

| I live in Washington state USA, about 45 minute drive south of Seattle, and a 15 minute drive east of Tacoma in a town called Puyallup (pronounced `puh yawl up'). My town is named after a local indian tribe. The area around me is great for camping, motorsports, wintersports, watersports in the summer, and generally anything outdoorsy. The one thing unique about my state is that it has pretty much every type of terrain you can imagine, from mountains and glaciers to deserts, rain forests to marshes, and badlands to rolling plains. I can't say I'm a huge fan of the climate where I am located, being so rainy and/or cold most of the year (I would say it's similar to UK weather), but I do like that it's fairly centrally located. In fact, it is so centrally located that I have at least five GW stores within 45 minutes of my house, including one in Puyallup. Not to mention two IMAX'es and a hundred clubs and places to see good music (the music scene here is pretty amazing), museums, and the like. Nearby is a hotbed of software houses with Microsoft, Valve Software, Arenanet, and many, many others in and around Seattle. Also, Boeing is a huge presence in the area, being one of the leading aircraft manufacturers in the world. Oh yeah, you can't walk 10 feet without tripping over an espresso stand around these here parts. This is downtown Tacoma with the Puget Sound in the background. The cone structue in the middle right of the picture is the Chihuly Museum of Glass Art (our local famous artist). Besides gaming, and music, my other hobby is Snowboarding. Unfortunately, this season has been fairly crappy so far, but I'm hoping it picks up next month. Especially since the Winter Olympics this year will be affected by the same weather patterns... Pretty much anywhere you go in my vicinity, you can see Mt. Rainier on a clear day. We just call it `The Mountain', and it dominates the horizon at almost 14,500 ft. It's about 90 miles from my town, and apparently is a dormant volcano. This is from the Puyallup River trestle bridge near my house. The Puyallup River is big time for salmon spawning, and I will probably try my hand at salmon fishing for the first time this year. I have considered moving a few times, but I can definitely say this is a pretty cool area to be other than the relatively high cost of living and not as much sun as I would like.

| What a great idea for a thread! I live in Tallahassee, Florida, which is located in the North and to some degree western part of the state. I only just relocated here a few years ago, after growing up and finishing my undergrad degree at the University of Florida. A little about Tallahassee - Tallahassee is the capitol of the state of Florida, but most of the population of Florida is located in the Southeast, so about as far away from the capitol as possible. Thus, we have lots of government jobs here, and a little industry, most of which has dried up now. Here is a picture of the state capitol building (which looks like a giant phallus): But Tallahassee is really built around two economic sectors, government, and education. Thus, Tallahassee has two Universities, a community college, and a technical institute. So we are a pretty young town, but we also experience a brain drain to some degree, since no one likes to give up their cushy government job, many graduates go elsewhere. But that doesn't bother me, I am a gator fan, and will be all my life. FSU will always be Florida's Second University!!!! | |

Where are you now??? I have a good Mordheim group of 8 going, that plays every Monday at my house. We just started a BTB campaign two weeks ago. I actually don't know anything about the Panhandle, but am fast learning because my other big hobby is playing rugby (eight years now, since I was a freshman playing Division 1 rugby for the University of Florida). One of the teams we play is based out of Eglin Air Force Base. I am pretty sure it Okaloosa??? It might be Pensacola, but I think P-cola is a navy base. It could even be Columbus, but I think Columbus is Army. Lots of military sides in the Deep South Rugby Union and I have no military ties at all so I am not really sure. If you ever make it over to Tally we should hook up!

I think the Blue Angels are based out of there. I believe the (non-Ohio) Columbus is in Georgia or South Carolina, but I could be wrong. The panhandle is nothing special, except for one week out of the year - Spring Break. That's when you want to be out on the beach for obvious reasons. Unfortunately, I'm in WA state now! (see my post above) I have no plans on ever moving back there, but I'd love to visit Florida again.
