When it rained in Mordheim, it poured.

Acid rain washed down Grimgrin’s heavy armor and fell in streams down to the ruined cobblestone beneath his feet, to settle in the uneven cracks between the stone. His massive axe was resting over his shoulder on top of a crude rusted metal pauldron, and the heavy fur cloak he wore was matted with mud and soaked with rain. He was accompanied by his small warband, Krensh and Spadez were flanking his sides, while the rest followed in tow.

Krensh was armed from head to toe. Heavy rusted armor and a massive shield clanked as he trudged behind his boss.A length of rope from his grappling hook dragged the ground behind him and he held his choppa, a large axe, at the ready – always prepared for any threat that could appear from seemingly nowhere.

Spadez stood aside Krensh as they walked, and it could be seen that he was the oldest orc out of the lot. He was missing his left arm and Rags hung over his left shoulder, obscuring the stub underneath. In his right hand he wielded a sawed off two-handed axe, which made for a very powerful choppa. Perhaps the strangest thing about Spadez was his horns that grew from the sides of his head after carrying a piece of wyrdstone for too long – they made for very effective weapons. He could have lead a warband of his own, or even overthrew Grimgrin, but he never had any interest save for a good scrap.

Walking a few paces back was Wotnot, leading Rotten the troll with a large chain. He wished he had a bit more food to coax him with, but he made due – bosses orders after all. He carried a lot of the loot as well, a few books were strapped around his leather belt and a keg of grog was strapped around his shoulders. He used a large orcy polearm as a walking stick and around the head was a macabre array of dangling heads, a grizzly reminder to anyone that wotnot was not to be trifled with, even if he was the smallest black orc in the warband…But he was quickly growing.

Carrying even more loot, Gobsmacked’s arms were full. He even carried a live piglet under one arm, waiting for it to get bigger so he could eat it. It gave up squealing a long time ago, and just hung there in his grip. He carried a torch, in his right hand, which had gone out not long after it started raining. Slung around his back he carried a gigantic backpack, fit for an ogre, which carried the warband’s stash of wyrdstone, and a few tools needed to build makeshift shelter. He was also tasked by grimgrin to keep a close eye on Redd , Blu, and Green.

The three nuttaz were picked up in the depths of mordheim. They were one snotlin’ shy of a pump wagon when they met em, all three huddled up in a building arguing about which was better. Red, Green, or Blue. They each, to the warbosses logic, had a point. Because red is fast, green is best, and blue is lucky. He quickly convinced each of them to join his warband, and he soon found out that the nuttaz had no fear! They were crazy and paid no heed to their own health – perfect for the warband and perfect for killin’

[Sorry if it's bad...Just something i threw together during breaks at school]

very nice and fluffy!

you have done well not to fall into the trap of trying to hard with fluff. I like the idea of the orc with the horns and the nuttaz.

(Continued. Once again just a little something I cooked up during break at school. Based on a real game...gonna increase the font size on this one...)

The rain poured down in sheets off the ruined buildings along the street.

Grimgrin was just thinking about setting up camp when he heard a gunshot and shouts.

“Skaven!” the voice cried, obviously a human. It came from somewhere in the distance down the street, and a scrap would be a welcome change of pace to trudging through the rain.

He turned to his warband and shouted, loud enough to make his appearance known to those ahead of him, “Alright boys, der’s a scrap up da road, and we all knows dat no scrap is proppa without ORCS!”

“WAAAAAGH!!” the warband replied as they all broke into a run. Wotnot dropped some dead squig bits on the cobblestone leaving the confused, and hungry, troll in the street. Gunshots and shouting grew louder as they splashed down the street, Gobsmacked the young’un and Blu the Nutta taking the lead as they sprinted faster than most of their armored bretheren.

“I hear orcs, sir!” a frightened voice shouted over the gunshots.

“Then we will meet them with steel and send those foul greenskins to their maker!”

Grimgrin laughed as they finally broke through the fog to see a ruined three story building, humans inside. It barely had a roof, and the humans with the guns sat under what cover they could find to protect their precious black powder weapons. Most of the softies stood on the second floor, soaked in rain and using the second floor as a defensive position against a stronger opponent – they seemed to want to force the orcs to climb to get to them. Crossbow bolts and gunshots flew through the air, sending water and mud spraying up around the orcs feet. None of them struck true.

As soon as the orcs were nearing in on the building, the rain changed color to a sickly pale green. The humans cried in pain – their skin sizzling as they collapsed on the ground. The rain had gotten deadly. It burned the orcs too, but the thick green skin was more than enough to keep it from being deadly to them.

“Zoggin’ rain kilt dem gits before we ‘ad a chance to smash em up gud!” cursed Krensh.

The remaining humans that stayed in cover jumped out the windows, retreating into nearby alleyways and other buildings to escape the rain and the orcs – leaving their comrades behind. At least five of the mercenaries lay motionless on the ground while an equal amount fled.

Spadez kicked the nearest body in anger, sending a helmet flying off into the mud. “Now wurz dem rats dey was shootin’ at first? I’z wanna krump sumfink!”

Something struck Wotnot in the back of the head as he started to loot the corpses of the recently deceased humans, sending him face down with a thud.

Rocks buzzed through the air, most bouncing off armor and one taking Redd in the face, knocking him off balance and onto his rear.

“In da alley!” shouted Grimgrin.

Blu was the first to the scrap, he ran down the narrow alleyway and spotted a slew of rats – more than he could count, if he even cared to. He swang wildly, skaven blood spraying like mist, mixing with the rain. Daggers stabbed into his arms and shoulders as they attemped to fight back, but they did not stop his rampage. He laughed and yelled in glee each time his sword and axe met rat-flesh.

Wotnot dropped his pig in a nearby barrel and squeezed inside to the left side of blu, only they could fit in this narrow alley, the others would have to run around or wait for one of them to fall. He held up his shield in his right hand, more to protect himself from Blu’s wild swings than the rats, and started chopping what Blu didn’t murder.

One rat fell. Two. Three. Wotnot lost count, as each one died another took its place – and not one managed to severly wound either Wotnot or Blu. Seconds passed, and many bodies piled up in the alley. Then the wave of rats stopped. What remained of the skaven fled – and not one orc would even think about trying to figure out where those cunning rats could run to.

Wotnot and Blu cheered as they left the alley, covered in a glistening crimson.

Grimgrin snarled and backhanded Wotnot, “You’z hoggin’ all da fun git-face! Now loot dese ‘umies an’ pack up. We’z goin’ back to get Rotten and den we’z gonna make camp so we’z can get outta dis dum rain before it starts rainin’ fish or gets real burny again.”

It's ALWAYS nice to get both sides of a story. VERY WELL WRITTEN! Da Grinnin' Warband, fluffy intro. 544694

ADDENDUM:Being EVER SO SLOW on the uptake, I JUST realized that the Lads are WIP pieces in the Painting & Modelling section. VERY COOL...it adds both to the fluff AND to the WIP. VERY CLEVER! Da Grinnin' Warband, fluffy intro. 544694

(I wrote this bit after spades got his arm cut off, and I modeled him before...)

-Another one of these stories featuring just the boys may come soon, maybe not...It may just keep going in Dubstyles' post The Trial of Wolfgang Farber.
