| I've been drooling over the whole concept of pirate orcs for some time now and with the fairly new pirate orc heads from maxmini - I felt like it would be time to start my own orc pirate warband. Well yesterday I got started and I'd like so share some very, very wip pictures. For starters I mostly have non converted models to show, but in time there will be more pictures of customized minis. Anyway, first is my first ready to be painted orc boy. I call him "Pegleg" since I haven't thought of a good name for him yet. He has a club, sword and a bow (which I represent with a pistol). Ok then there's Kooksum, my big 'un chef. As you can obviously see, he has hardly anything done. Even the arm is held in place with just blu-tac. I'm planning to add something to make him look even more like he's responsible of cooking the slop of the whole crew. His body is from a 40k ork slaver. Somehow his face came out smudgy in this pic. He is supposed to be smoking a cigar if anybody can tell. ...aaaand here's the rest: Shaman (he's going to be staying plain), other big 'un that will require some customizing and classic squigs. I'm working on making Kaptain Dedgob out of the body of Snikrot. Odd enough I stumbled upon And's thread and he was planning on using that 40k ork slaver body and he has converted his boss out of Snikrot as well. I hope nobody comes calling me a copycat just because he posted his models first. Anyway, I'll be working to show something better than just half-baked WIP shots.

| Yay, more pirate orcs Welcome to the club Very nice conversion for a start, I'm looking forward to seeing more. And I should really continue with mine, but there are so many projects all the time, phew. | |

| AAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGH! GREAT START! It seems somehow appropriate for the Cook to be clenching a stoogey in his teeth... VERY in keeping with Orc Cuisine...that rack of ribs from the plastic Ogres would be a nice accessory. The max mini heads are VERY COOL indeed; no more excuses for having Land Lubber Orcs. Keep up the GOOD WORK! | |

| Brilliant start Kaptain! I love Cooky! Deaf's right about the stoogey - just like "Lumpy" from Peter Jackson's King Kong movie! You are in turn inspiring me to pull my finger out and get painting my Maxmini crew! | |

Yeah when I started him I had that specific piece in mind, but unfortunately I don't have any ogre kingdoms parts at my disposal. Just buying a whole boxed set for a single piece is a bit absurd to me. - WarbossKurgan wrote:

Yeah I also find it fitting. Really crude looking, no care for his personal hygiene and a big fat cigar between his yellowed teeth to complete it... and he will be the one preparing your dinner!

My freehand painting is not that good and I currently have no intentions to add a standard bearer in my warband. It's way too unpractical, but I might do one once I've finished my models that are meant to be used for gaming. Would be nice.

| Whew. Sure have been busy lately. Hardly had any spare time to work on my minis. Well at least today I got the chance to sit down and whip up a new member to my crew. This is Meathook (Monkey Island anyone?). Orc Boy with mace, sword (represented with the hook arm... yeah) and a bow (rifle). I got to admit that the orc regiment boxed set offers way too few good right arms. Got to love those maces that come with the plastic black orcs. The hook on this guy is actually made from one of the spears with a cutter. That's because I had no spare miniature hooks available. He'll be getting some more greenstuffing tomorrow to fill the gap between his right arm and body and on the shaft of the mace. I'm off to bed for the night. EDIT: Would anybody know where I could order/salvage a miniature ship the size of warhammer minis?

| My nephew turned 1 last night and got a lil boat, and I thought, "hey when he's done with that, that would be perfect for a pirate ship!" | |

| How big a ship are you looking for? We are currently using 9 to 10 inch ships for our Mordheim battles, which is not a good size for toys. (The mini-Black Pearls and Flying Dutchman excepted.) Playmobil makes some nice ships in the 11-14 inch range. Megabloks and Playmobil both make lots of ships (some with very realistic rigging) in 18 to 30 inch lengths. These are the most common finds on ebay.
We use those for big Warhammer scale fights. And they make great scenery for Mordheim games in port towns!

I can't really say the exact measurements that I would like to have, but I'd want my ship to be fairly big, but not colossal. Also I feel a bit scroogey so if I can get a ship fairly cheap, it would be perfect. For now it would just be for decorational purposes, but if I can ever be arsed I could as well build a gaming table with a dock so it could work as terrain.

| Playtable and I both have that ship. We've fought over it a lot in the last few months! (With Pirate warbands...) Here's a post on converting it (not one of ours)-- http://www.lead-adventure.de/index.php?topic=10643.0Deals on it show up on ebay every now and then. | |

- Hey, good looking conversions so far, really like the chef.
Just wondering, are you aware of black scorpion's range of pirate orcs and goblins?
http://www.blackscorpionminiatures.com/range.asp?the_range=FPI
I have a bunch of their other pirate minis, the sculpts are great. I have seen those before I think, but I had long forgotten them. Otherwise they'd be great, but I'm looking for that warhammer orc look and not that kind of slightly "skinny" look. Makes me happier to convert my own, but thanks for sharing! Good inspiration.

| Nice looking ork pirates! Can't wait to see them painted up. As far as the bitz go, The Warstore is great for US customers (it's great for non-bitz as well!), and there's also an eBay seller that regularly has bit "sets" that are themed (i.e. dwarf miners standard & accessories or empire militia weapon arms). His eBay name is "horde_*_bits" so check out what he's got, you may be able to nab that ogre rack of ribs (with some other ogre accessories) for a pretty good price. | |

| Hey, it's been a long time since I've updated this. I'm really occupied with my civil services and I have hardly any spare time, which is really getting on my nerves. Could use a nice long vacation to get me back doing miniatures. Well... here's a small update: Felt like I needed some boy that looks a bit more dynamic. I used one of the wh40k ork legs to make him look like he'd be just about to strike. Sorry for the small pic on this one. Hey look who finally got his arms and ribs on his back He only lacks a ranged weapon, but frankly it's tough to put one on his back since those ribs take so much space. Here's some bases. Balsa wood with some greenstuffed seaweed, barnacles and clam shells. On the most right is the shaman's base which is supposed to have moss and mushrooms. As a bonus, here's a little git I found while digging my dusty shelves. It's a grot driver from gorkamorka with just his hair chopped off and arm repositioned. He'll make a very piratey gobbo. You can't see much of the details from this pic, but he has an eyepatch | |
