Imperial Seaport by Wolfgang Jädtke

What does he use for his scratch built flagstone walls?. Are they embossed styrene sheets or does he draw the pattern on foamboard?. I'm interested to know how he made the flagstone tower.

Wolfgang never uses any pre-made stuff, they are drawn with a ballpen into foamboard (styrodur). Some time ago he made an extensive tutorial about some other buildings, you can find it on the same website:

I can't read German, but i think he uses a type of foam board without the paper. I saw some at the hobby store where i live and almost bought it, i think i'll go pick it up today. I have tried to remove the paper from regular foam board by soaking it is warm water, but all the rubbing and shredded mess i end up with is not worth the effort!

I hope this is not threadnomancy but I wanted to ask if anyone knows what kind of foam Wolfgang uses? I would love to try and build some terrain and want to get my hands on the right material.

The Inquisition is pretty sloppy around here so no problem with resurrecting threads (especially not cool ones like this!).

Unfortunately I can't help you much, because I only know the German names "Styrodur", "Selitron" and "Depron" (those are brand names I think)... both are insulation foams so you might find them at a local DIY store. The thinner ones (Selitron and Depron) are also used for those small light model airplanes, if you know what I mean.

I visit the German board quite frequently, but dont actually speak German. He uses a 6mm "Styrodur", "Selitron" and "Depron" as mentioned above, with a cheap plywood backing. It is very similar to pink and blue foams, but not quite the same. If you live in the united states you might find it hard to locate this stuff, especially if you live on the west coast like I do.

I did however mange to find a supplier here http://rcfoam.com/cart.php?target=category&category_id=75 and was quite pleased with the costs and shipping times.

There is another foam that is VERY similar that you might also be able to find called Cellfoam 88 they actually carry this in my local art store, but not in the large sheets.

I have used pink and blue foam with some degree of success, but this stuff is AWESOME! It is very dense compared to pink and blue and holds impressions much much eaiser, well worth the price if you can afford it.
