So, I thought I will start a thread for the reports of the many games of the weekend. For me, this will be the place to post the general reports as far as I remember them and show the pics I could not fit into my pirate story, which will feature the battles from an in-universe point of view (the first report will be published tonight in this thread, and will feature more pictures).

Now, on to my first game!

Game 1 the City table – Occupy at the Amphitheatre

JohnYoung’s Reiklanders vs. Matt’s Beastmen vs. Eliazar’s Pirates

In this game, my pirates fought against John’s Reiklanders and Matt’s Beastmen. The objective was to occupy 5 buildings, but the game turned rather quickly into a large brawl. On one side of the board, the beastmen were happily killing off my fighters (who did not manage to take a knocked down beastman OoA with 4 hits!), while on the other, I was a little careless and got shot by John’s blunderbuss. Matt’s Minotaur and Centigor had a long fight with the Reiklanders behind DeafNala’s great building, and both were taken OoA.
In consequence, the Matt’s Minotaur died permanently, as well as Jiang Wei and Skadi of my warband (I rebought them, though), while the Centigor and Ismail had to miss a game.

Game 1 - The village table

As we just got together, the night started of slowly, and we first set
out to create two tables out of all the scenery we had, which turned
out to be quite sufficient for 2 tables, save for the one being fully
painted, and the other just half...
We built a city as described above, and a little village on a second
table. We figured it could be one of the settlements around mordheim.

Lanyssa, Pfreck, and I rolled of and got the AMBUSH! scenario, and I was the one being ambushed... great... just my luck..
I rolled, and was apparently loaded with 10 shards of Wyrdstone in total! that would make excellent starting loot! now if only I could make it off the board in time not to be slaughtered by these mean looking opponents. Luckily for me, Pfreck started on the far corner of the board, and Lanyssa's Dwarfs just next to him! no worries, I could easily walk away from this.

Boring Amsterdam - General accounts Afbeelding008

For the sake of the game though, I decided my flagelants needed to charge, supported by the dogs... that might have been a wrong decision, as they got locked into combat with an ogre right away,

Boring Amsterdam - General accounts IMG_6950

and later on got charged by a whole bunch of dwarves (they took a little longer due to the short little legs Razz) They did however pose a threat to my wichhunters making for the boards edge, as they were lining up to fire everything they had through that one little alley, in which I had everything I was about to win!...

Boring Amsterdam - General accounts IMG_6956

Since my witchhunters were getting out of reach, the battle was focussed on the flagellants and ogre, which got challenged by the dwarves as well, but to no avail...

It took a little longer then anticipated, but after the 3rd turn, I made off with all the wyrdstone and got a major head start... (only one falgellant died, who I could now easily replace)

A bit of a one sided battle, as I started off lucky, and there was only a small battle, but it was an easy start for a fun weekend - in which I quickly lost my head start, and Lanyssa turned out to be rather vicious, with or without gold!

Pictures from behind the board

Here are our two tables, the City and the Village, which were both mastercrafted mostly by Ezekiel, but with DeafNala's building he sent to Matt, Nigel's mushrooms and some of Matt's scenery (including the large Goblin mushroom he set on fire) added.

Here's a pic of our Map, which we intended to use... unfortunately, we did not know exactly how a map based campaign worked and were to lazy to look it up exactly, and as lots of new players arrived on Saturday, we stopped pretending to use it properly and just played as we saw fit Wink

Now, some pics of the men (or boys, in Matt's case Razz ) behind the miniatures:

When we were not actually playing, most of us were busy nonetheless, taking pictures or writing battle reports:

We also ate! Here is Pfreck preparing our dinner on Saturday evening:

OK, I'm just kidding, actually, our great host Ezekiel prepared the dinner, with the help of JohnYoung. Pfreck only jumped in front of the camera while I was trying to take a picture of the plates!

On Sunday, we had the pleasure to taste loads of smelly tasty French cheese Lanyssa brought with him:

If you still think that gamers can be ordinary people, too, have a look at these pictures and think again!

That's a shot of a Frenchman how he could be seen from 10am (seriously) to 10pm:

And here is a guy who tries to trick you by looking like a handsome, friendly guy you'd marry your daughter to, but actually, he's fixing scenery before breakfast! affraid

Still, most of us tried to be a little normal at least, and so we went to the (real) city to take some tourist pictures:

Boring Amsterdam - General accounts 07_vis10

Unfortunately, Lanyssa had to leave early...

Boring Amsterdam - General accounts 08_bye10

...so there were only five of us left for the traditional Boring Meeting Good-Bye-Picture while eating traditional food (in this case: pancakes)

I have finished selecting the pics for the pirates’ report, so here comes the general account of Game 2 on the City Table.

Game 2 – The Pool at the Rock

In this game, Matt’s beastmen and my pirates allied against Lanyssa’s dwarfs and Ezekiel’s witch hunter, who were not allied. In the centre of the table, there was a pool with wyrdstone shards and the objective was to get to the edge of the water and search for wyrdstone (i.e. do nothing else this turn).
The dwarfs started close to the edge of the pool, between Matt and me. The beastmen charged the dwarfs pretty quickly, while the pirates were still afraid because of last game’s bashing and tried rather badly to find some tactical positions. These movements brought the gunners behind some explosive barrels in LoS of the dwarf thunderers, who fortunately missed.
Ezekiel offered 15gc for anyone who takes the tilean marksman Lanyssa hired OoA and sent his warhounds after him, while the main bulk of the warband advanced towards the huge brawl between the dwarfs and the beastmen. This was only partly clever, as lots of the witch hunters exposed themselves to the fire from Lanyssa’s thunderers and the bloody marksam, who took out the warrior priest, who then died.
Matt was not very lucky either and soon had to rout (his warband being reduced to 4 fighters, this always happened pretty quickly)
The pirates were still manoeuvring, when Jan got charged by two flagellants, who took him OoA, but then got charged and beaten up by the rest of the crew. Gunther tried to shoot some dwarfs, but did not hit very often, and when he did caused no harm. The dwarfs shot back, but had no success either.
With Ezekiel’s losses going up, he decided to rout and the pirates were left alone fighting the dwarfs. Due to the great amount of ranged weapons the dwarfs carried with them, it was impossible to peacefully search for wyrdstone, but any charges would have meant crossing open plains and attacking the T5 engineer first. In the end, I sent my Cabin Boy as cannon fodder and tried to search for wyrdstone on turn. I then routed voluntarily, too, but not before Lanyssa took some of my fighters OoA.
One of them, Skadi, died permanently again. This time, I did not buy him back Suspect

Due to the large pool and my strategic positions, the pirates could see most of the battle at all times, allowing me to include almost all events in the pirates' report. Writing it down at the moment Smile

Game 3 – The Lost Prince

MagnoliaFan’s Kislevites & Alwin’s Dark Elves vs. Matt’s Beastmen & Eliazar’s Pirates

In a small village outside Mordheim, the warbands encountered the merchant’s son. While the pirates and their civilized allies were honest and wanted to rescue and return him, the pervert Dark Elves and drunken Kislevites were most definitely about to do unmentionable things to him.
So, the good warbands set out to save him. At first, everything looked pretty well, the Centigor used his superior movement to reach the Son pretty fast, while the gunner took up firing positions and the rest advanced, with a small detachment making its way towards the beastmen, wanting to provide support for the retreat with the youngster.
The pirate gunners did no real harm as always, but neither did the Kislevite ranged division. Then, both the mercenaries and the dark elves charged the centigor, who did perform exceptionally well against so many foes, but fell in the end, before my detachment could reach him.
The rest of the beastmen were unfortunately not able to pass a fear test and therefore got tied up and beaten by the dark elf cold one hounds, until they got taken OoA and routed early, as always Wink
The pirates on the other side of the board made the mistake of aiding Bart the Blunderbussier, who got charged by the Tiger with bear stats, without even knowing that the beast had both S5 and T5. Naturally, they were not able to cause any harm, and if they did, the beast had multiple wounds anyway. Fortunately, some Kislevites joined the fight, too. The battle amongst the humans was quite even, that means people on both sides died.
After the beastmen routed, the pirates did not have any chance against their foes, who were superior in manpower, equipment and combat skills. The detachment chose to turn around and not join the united leaders of Kislevites and Dark Elves, while the other fighters waited for someone to die in order to reach the routing limit.
The captain got taken OoA quite early, as did Nknunda, so there was just one fighter missing. Unfortunately, the Kislevites managed to kill 3 or so more in the last turn Sad
[[Afterwards, I rolled for injury, the Bosun, Jim the Cabin Boy and our beloved Jan died for good, while Redbeard got captured. Friendly MagnoliaFan sold him back for a fair price, but it ruined me financially nonetheless. What saved me was the chariot race, in which I won 2 wyrdstone shards. However, I was not able to rebuy all the casualties (or even half), so my size was reduced greatly for the final on Sunday, with my warband rating being already lower than the starting rating. But what could I expect after my third lost battle? Wink]

Be prepared for the great and super-long last game, a one-on-one-on-one at first battle which turned into all against the Reiklanders after a while!

Game 4 – Of Valiant Villagers and a Nefarious Necromancer

We, that is Ezekiel’s Witch Hunters, JohnYoung’s Reiklanders and Eliazar’s Pirates, played a custom scenario we invented beforehand on the Village Table. The center of the table was dominated by a huge Wizard’s Tower, which was guarded by the remains of the Village Guard – the rest had already been slaughtered and resurrected by an evil Necromancer, who wanted to get into the ancient tower. He was accompanied by a horde of skeletons and vile ghouls, who were spread all over the board.
While the Necromancer and his minions were hostile towards the players, the Guard was not necessarily. However, players had the option to enter the tower to get an academic skill for the respective hero for free, upon which the guard would turn against him. The same effect had, of course, shooting at the guard or attacking them in close combat. Also, some wyrdstone counters were placed in the buildings, so terrain would be used more extensively.

We rolled for starting positions, but as we did not like them at all, we each chose a corner of the table. The Witch Hunters started in front of the village gate in the north, the Reiklanders in the south west and the pirates in the south east.

Before the first movement phase, one of John’s fighters broke through the ground and fell into the catacombs due to a random event. In order to keep John from crying, we decided to make the catacombs a part of the scenario instead of letting the warrior die (it was no use to him, as you will see).

The witch hunters advanced from the north and quickly got engaged with the ghouls and the skeletons. One pair of ghouls proved too tough, however, and tied up a considerable part of the warband for about 5 turns.

John’s Reiklanders positioned themselves on a hill across the whole southern edge of the board, effectively barring the way for the pirates (with 4 archers, a leader with crossbow and a Tilean marksman, what should I do with on move-or-shoot-fire-every-other-turn handgun?). The rest of the band advanced towards the tower and one fighter climbed up a roof to get some wyrdstone. John forgot to move him on several occasions and Ezekiel tried to shoot him down several times, but without too much success. He fell, eventually, but did not die, if I remember correctly.

The blunderbuss of the Reiklanders advanced, too, shooting into a combat of Guard, Witch Hunters, Necromancer and some skeletons, wreaking havoc, killing the necromancer and turning the guard against the Reiklanders, which were now declared enemy number one by every party of the game Very Happy

My pirates did not do too much, to be honest, save for some strategic movement. They were, however, pretty much trapped. To the left were the Reiklanders and a ghoul, which killed my captain before he got killed himself. To increase the fun, I encountered a crazed sister with heavy armour, dozens of skills and some evil prayers upon entering the first building, and thought I am doomed. Fortunately, my brave dog took her on and out of action (Ismail failed to kill the knocked down nun, but looted her armour afterwards). Half of my warband advanced into the alley and courtyard of this area, but could not get out due to Ezekiel not managing to kill the bloody ghoul. Thus, I could not run across the open space which was under unobstructed surveillance of John’s six ranged fighters. Still, the blunderbuss and my first mate guarded the exit of the catacombs, cheerfully awaiting the lost Reiklander. The coward hid from the blunderbuss (initially, I just wanted to blast through the door), so Jiang Wei charged and killed the fighter Very Happy Meanwhile, the dog sneaked up on the Reiklander bowmen. John did not notice him and I could charge without being shot at, killing on bowmen, engaging two others and thus effectively drawing some fire from Ezekiel’s witch hunters, who were still fighting the ghoul (weren’t it 4 fighter, 2 of which were flagellants with flails, and a village guard, who did not manage to kill him?? Wink ). Snorri tried to support the dog, but got killed on his way. Gunther collected a piece of wyrdstone and tried to shoot some bowmen. Guess what, he did not do any harm. I believe he did not manage to kill or hit anyone during the whole campaign…

On the other side of the tower, where the blunderbuss had killed the necromancer, innumerable heroes, undead and village guards were fighting all the time, with Ezekiel slowly getting the upper hand. Eventually, he killed some Reiklanders, too, and John had to rout.

Having been convinced that enough blood was shed, and that 4 ½ hours are already quite a long time for a game (the other table was finished with playing and post-game sequence long before), Ezekiel and I decided to officially ally. We declared the game a joint win and searched the tower (John killed all the city guards), getting a free academic skill each.

This game was a lot of fun, and definitely a worthy final battle for a wonderful weekend!

And now, enjoy a massive selection of pics, with even more to feature in the Perilous Adventures of the Violet Tendencies!
