Mordheim's underground

Brilliant Underground complex in the making. I can feel the adventure. (And smell the water) One thing you might consider in the future is to print out a pre-prepared photoshop image of the water's surface onto clear transparency or acetate and glue that to the acrylic sheet. I want to attempt this when creating a dimensional portal and explosion templates.

What a beautiful project! Those modules are excellent, and the tutorial was just outstanding.

That's really quite super awesome! I need to get working on my own soon...xD

Great stuff. Great way to make underground stuff. It has inspired me to make some sewers later. But I'll have to wait until I have a bigger place.

One idea you could do, which I'm going to do, is to line up a wall full of skulls and bones just like in the catacombs of paris.

Where do you get your ideas for the actual layout or floorplans?

First, thanks very much for yours comments. Always a good motivation to go on...

@flipchuck : good idea the skulls wall, I must have a try... The floorplans are, for the greater part, in my mind... but, I must said that they change at the moment where I construct them Some others came from others threads, here or from LAF... I try not to make a 'squarred' underground... And for two of the next modules, a friend ask me to make some jails and dwarf's mines... So... maybe ....
A good thing of these modules is that you don't really need many place (space) to make them... and the construct session is not a long time. The longer time comes from the drying time...

@Superscenic : thanks for tis tip, but I had already tried the acetate sheet with photoshoped water... without great success... but I am not a pro of photoshop !

@DeafNala : The adventures of my mini will go on soon but for the moment I am making a new tabletop for my club : an old west one... and I have not time enough ...

Let's see what happened since my last post..
I began to construct my straight sewer and... then... I had a new idea ???
So, of course, I began to test this new idea... I tested, tested and, finally, here is the result !

OK, now I've gone from admiring your work to utterly envying it!!! I'm so jealous!

Seriously now, this just adds a totally new feel to it. An underground temple or chapel,like you said, is a brilliant idea and can provide with so many adventures (especially with secret passages and dead ends!).

The paint job is also fantastic (as usual), not to mention the props like the benches, barrels and ornaments! Superb!

But at last, a new module: my strait sewers ! I made them with Hirst Arts bricks.

Great stuf Jacques i like the look of your underground. It creates an atmosphere like i imagined reading the book "skavenslayer" by william king. Do you use your underground in some games? Do you have some special rules for the sewers? Can you swim there?

While I do love your BRILLIANTLY crafted & detailed subterranean pieces, it's Ratnik's solo journey through the danger filled labyrinth that really catches my imagination...an EXCELLENT PRESENTATION!

@opaque : these module are used in my localclub to play Mordheim, Malifaux and a friend used them to have a D&D aventure with his group !! Swim ?... why not ! may be half your movement rate in the good way and a quarter in the other ? Bur beware : some monsters (giant rats, piranas... ) can lurk inside...

I am in the process of changing house and shall be far from construct some modules before a certain time...

But stay tuned, this thread is not dead !

What a cool sewer, I really like the water and how it makes the stuff on the bottom look! Is it plexiglass with PVA glue brushed on?

Yes plexiglass with PVA glue brushed on, and, when dry, two (or more) layers of gloss varnish...

Very innovative and well thought out. Love how you are doing the water! Just a quick question and you may have said it already (I admit I was just too busy skimming mainly looking at all the pics ) but are the stone wall pieces Hirsch Molds or some other design.

I have thought of doing sewers but didn't even think of your way to make it modular, my idea would have been more time comsuming and maybe not as effective.

Hey Jacques, i have a question for you.
I will be starting my own underground modules soon, and was wondering how playable your modules are?
They look to be three to four inches "deep" in places, and on a 4x4 table how tricky is reaching into the middle to measure and move models?

I was thinking about using 2 inch foam just for playability, just wondered if you found this to be an issue or not?

In fact, my modules are 9cm height : 1 cm MDF, 2 cm foam (for some holes...) and 6 cm foam for the walls.
For the moment, I have 9 modules and we play with them on a 3x3 table without any problem.
But we plan to play first on a 4x4 table and then (maybe...) on a 6x4 table (24 modules).

You only have to play above a 60cm maximum of module and (for adults !) this doesn't seem to be a problem...
We had a discussion about lowering (after the construction of the first module) the walls, but the majority of us had preferred to have a 'real' feeling of caves and sewers for their minis... and these 6cm gave me the possibility to have some multi level module (as in the "turning sewer" for an example...)

But one thing to think before the beginning : how big will be your modules and where and how big the appertures in them... a good planning with one on one scale drawings on some paper before starting is often a good method ...

Good luck with your construct ! And do'nt forget : post a maximum of photos ! I'm fan of them !

This has been one of the most enjoyable and educational threads I have read through. A great gaming board with so many cool details (Secret door anyone?).

The tutorial was superb and as someone already said inspires us to give it a go.

It has been a long time without news... Sorry.

I changed housing and it wasn't easy to continue my hobby...
but I managed to have some little space and had began a new table (old west one) you will see it as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, a long time due photo of all my dungeon's modules together :
