Watchers Season Finale Empty
PostSubject: Watchers Season Finale   Watchers Season Finale Icon_minitimeTue 8 Sep 2009 - 16:55

The wolves howled, dawn broke the darkness and Eric moved cautiously forward.

His men were all around him, through the near darkness a large shape moved quickly closer. He instinctively knew what it was and dropped his shield to the ground, then he drew his axe and tested its weight in his left hand. This was the source of his anger, the itch that he couldn’t scratch, the stealer of his sword. This was the ogre captain and his hated enemy, come to take him on in single combat.

Gurul Thunderhead reined in his rhinox in front of the norse warband, he knew the risk he ran but it was time he’d decided to take on this puny human and servant of chaos.

Eric told his men to fall back and though some were hesitant they eventually obeyed his command, last to leave was the nameless wulfen. He looked at Eric and he thought he detected a smile of understanding, maybe not, the wulfen was hard to read.

Gurul dismounted, he wanted to beat the norse leader fairly and finally. Then maybe everyone would know just who was boss round here. He pulled his Cathayan longsword from the sheath on his back and stepped forward, the human warriors fell back at a word of command from their leader. He noticed the half beast among them and thought for a second he was disobeying Eric but eventually he withdrew also.

The human leader walked forward axe in one hand sword in the other, he was muttering something to himself as he came, maybe a prayer, maybe a curse.

Gurul nodded a recognition toward the human who gave nothing back, his helmet obscured whatever travesty was now his face.

Eric struck first but the blow glanced of the Ogres armour, he tried to step aside as the Cathayan longsword whistled toward him but took the blow squarely and rocked back as more blows rained down at him each drawing blood.

This pattern continued for several minutes and Eric could feel himself weakening whilst his own blows seemed ineffective. At this rate the ogre would be able to blow him over in a few minutes. A quick succession of Eric’s blows hit the Ogre soundly and he saw him wince in pain but just as quickly he retaliated and Eric felt his hand go numb. For a few minutes Eric fought back trying desperately to injure his opponent but the Ogres power was slowly weakening him, blood poured from several wounds and his head spun.

He felt the killing blow, even saw it coming but his battered body was not quick enough to respond, the Cathayan longsword went through his armour and pierced his heart. With his last breath Eric laughed at his opponent, as the sword slipped from his chest he fell to the ground dead.

The wulfen stepped forward and Gurul knew it was to guard his leaders body and not to launch an attack whilst he was at a disadvantage. He turned and walked back to his warband who were hollering their delight at his victory.

That night the funeral pyre burnt bright, the wulfen remembered other such occasions in the norse homelands. The drinking would begin soon, already Jorundsonn had rolled in a barrel of ale found the gods knew where. This he didnt care for neither did his pack so he stood and walked into the surrounding forest confident that the warband wouldnt miss him and even if they did they would never follow him into the woods.

Yeah dude, lucky injury rolls though to be honest, as you know he lost all his wounds in the first 2 rounds but lasted 6.

A VERY heroic, & tragic end to an interesting character; I reminds me of the Elric Saga. A FINE READ!

A heroic end indeed - but as a marauders of chaos player i (not quite norse, but close Watchers Season Finale Icon_wink ) i must add that the wrong leader was victorious!
Maybe putting Eric with a fitting inscription into the orbituary will help his saga grow.

Cheers folk, i agree with both points Horatius but i cant find the obituaries ? Deafnala, Elric is my all time favorite hero ever, even a faint reminder of him is the greatest praise i could ever hope for.

To be fair Martins Ogre captain was awesome and Eric never really stood a chance.

We are having a bit of a break from Mordheim and playing Blood Bowl for a while. However we already have plans for our next Mordheim campaign and ive chosen Aspiring Champion as my main warband (so get ready for questions).

Holy--! That is one well equipped Ogre! He has everything you could wish for. Even a Rhinox! What a monster...

Aspiring Champion, taken from the Killer Shrike site.
Now you have me worried ?????

We decided to use 2 warbands each because only 3 of us play, the intricacies of this have yet to be determined. This is what we have done for our blood bowl season, its complicated but you basically never play against your own second team but get to play 4 other teams instead of 2. Wether it works or not i cant say because we have yet to play our first match.
