Gallery?

Hi all,

first off, I know I don't visit regularly like I used to do but I'm still amazed by some of the excellent stuff that's being published here. I also discovered the Gallery thread and I must admit that I am not at all impressed. I love the idea behind it but I think it missed it's point because as it stands now I don't think that thread adds value to the forum. It's just a thread full of pictures, that you can also find in people's personal threads spread around the forum.

Wouldn't it be better to have a seperate gallery sub-forum (under gallery, next to scenery and miniatures) where everybody can start his or her 'show us your ...' thread, like on other forums (examples here and here ). So we would have different threads such as 'show us your dwarf treasure hunters', 'orcs', 'reiklanders', 'marienburgers', 'hired swords', 'ogre bodyguards' 'stage coaches', etc.
The rules would be the same: no comments, finished works only and stick to the theme. but this way there would be an easily accesable forum for quick reference. If you're looking for inspiration for something that doesn't have a thread yet you can ask people to show their works by starting a new 'show us your..'

I take it you are talking about the Gallery Without Comments. It didn't work out as planned. The idea was to have a couple of photos & a link to further ones. That somehow didn't come across in setting it up. Most Forum Folk just simply post their finished stuff in the main body of the Miniatures Gallery rather than double posting within the same section.   

Yes, that are my thoughts exactly. I think one of the reasons people don't want to double post in that thread is because it doesn't really add to something. Whereas thematic threads might convince people just a little more (still no guarantees though). but a thematic thread, with just one to a few photo's per post/warband will give people an easy tool to find inspiration, and thus maybe give an impuls to post as well?

offcourse there's no real need to create a separate sub-forum for that, it could just as easily go in the regular gallery.

You could just start such a "show us ..." thread in the existing Painting forum and see if it works... I must admit I could do without another thread that has special rules aside from stay on topic. I don't understand the point of a thread with no comments.

Could we get rid of the sticky for that odd gallery thread? As it is I just ignore it, but I wouldn't mind seeing it quietly sink away.

Well the initial idea was that the thread was to be like a real gallery. You stroll by the painted pieces & stop at the ones you like. There you find a link to further minis by that painter that you can explore. It just didn't work out that way.

I could be un-stickied if Tom & Chris (cianty) wanted it that way...they are the decision makers here. There are a couple of other stickies I think are worthless & are seldom visited.
