| @ renfield 286: Conserning Cadwallon: you are saying this is a rather new pic? Because I've seen a pic like this a couple of years back and I'm sure it is the same buildings in the bacground, just not the minis themselfes. And there is a Cadwallon boardgame which uses some of the minis, but they are not painted. | |

| since Rackham folded, FFG picked up the cadwallon licence. They do extra mini's with new stats and things. They are basically plastic recasts of the cadwallon\confrontation figures. But they have 2 sets at the moment. FFG City of thieves Pre painted miniatures. | |

| It is indeed a brilliant piece of work. That said, there is so much about it that infuriates me from an artistic point of view. Primarily it's the palette, and what's done and not done with it. I'm not a fan of this particular style of subdued pastel scheme, though that's personal preference. Still there's simply not enough contrast, especially on the buildings. In fact there's so little that it restricts the ability to demonstrate the artists capability. It looks like he used about two colours on the brickwork and a few bits of wash. This demonstrates this perfectly. The overall visual impact is a mess. It's so subtle (or appears subtle, tricking you into seeing more quality than there is) that it's just one blob of greeny browny grey. The close-up of the man pulling the cart shows this too. There's nothing to bring out the details, it almost looks drybrushed, is there actually any shade/highlight work on his pouch at all? Composition-wise it's terrible. Nothing is picked out. The eye doesn't know where to begin, nor where to go next. Clearer colours on the knight on his horse would draw your eye to it and then on to the other details. It's like the whole thing is a background, it has no focus, the theme can't be expressed as much as it could. Then there's the quality of the painting itself. Obviously it's not just one model, it's a big piece of work, but is this Slayer Sword quality? | |

| Love that town - and yes, it can provide serious inspiration for some pirate architecture! Here's a video from Andrea Miniatures (maybe it should be under tutorials, but I'm really struck by the awesome end result): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zl-eilDbhWQJoao | |
