| Thank you very much for all your answers everyone ! Have anyone played with dwarfs already ? I'm a bit at a loss at how to handle them. I think I'll make a more general topic too instead of only writing in this post your warband thread.
I'll rewrite the list soon. I just realized the dwarf engineer extended the pistol range to 12, which makes it an interesting short-ranged weapon now. Is it a good idea to give my dwarf noble a pistol ?
Why are spears bad ? Are they too costly for what they do ? I thought they were interesting because it meant the dwarf spearmen could strike first and if he didn't put down the enemy in his turn, I could countercharge with a hero or a slayer and put him down in my turn. Which makes up for the slow movement and initiative they have.
I will rewrite a list very soon (I still have to buy many models so I want to have a good list before ! ). Thank you again for your feedback ! Ancre.

| Engineer only adds 3" range to pistols. The 6" is for crossbows and handguns. Spears are bad because of the way "strike first" is handled after the last rules review. When 2 models both "strike first", ie a charger vs a spear armed model, it goes to Initiative as to who strikes first. Dwarves are rarely going to come off well there. | |

| That's definitely solid for sure. I went with a lower model count because of previous experience with Dwarves. I had the same set up with my Heroes and they proved their worth and lasted a long while. My Noble was never taken out, my Engineer wasn't the best towards the end, but the Slayer was just unstoppable at one point with 2 dwarven gromil axes and master of blades. You have a lot of models though, and that should prove to be an extremely tough warband to face. I haven't done Witch Hunters yet, but I have a warrior priest and some flags I would like to use for that warband. I also want to put together some Witch Hunters. | |

| My halfling band, The Tall Tales, as listed elsewhere (might as well get them in the right spot ) Heroes: Captain: Lt Armor, Helmet, Crossbow Pistol, Sword Thief: rope & hooks, throwing knife, sword, crossbow pistol youth: axe Henchmen: 2 scouts: bow 2 scouts: sling (I don't see slings on the mordheimer.com halfling list, but they seem like a very halfling item, and I have the models. and my opponent doesn't care. ) 3 javelinas (small boars) 1 warrior: double handed hammer 1 warrior: sword, buckler, lt armor. Comes out to 509 if I recall correctly, with an initial rating of 88. Curretnly 1:0 against skaven. | |

| Marienburgs!
Capitan 90 -sword -shield -light armor (with house rule price reduct)
champion 50 -sword -shield
champion 50 -sword -shield
Youngblood 35 -Morningstar -Shield
Youngblood 23 -Hammer -Shield
5x swordsmen 250 -swords -shields
2x marksmen 100 -crossbows
In our group, WS adds to the chance of parries, and we're playing with the shield revision that everyone else seems to use. I know it seriously lacks power, but I was hoping I could make up for that in numbers at the beginning, at least numbers for a merc warband. My plan of action is to get more marksmen, and hopefully make my heroes less boring. The vast majority of my minis have swords, hence the proliferation. I would like to stay as WYSIWYG as possible, so I'm going to try to go with it, and add lots of pistols for greater offence in close combat without resorting to other close combat weapons. I'll be primarily playing against Dwarves and Orcs.

| Subject: Mage Warband Tue 23 Jun 2009 - 6:07 | |
| Well, after much deliberation, and checking out which models I had within reach, I am putting together a Mage warband for the next Mordheim campaign in my area. Here is what I am starting with, let me know your thoughts. Since I like to come up with a theme first, this is being patterned around a bunch of ice loving wintery fiends. Warband: Archmage - Sword, Frostbolt Spell (Dueling Pistol), Familiar, Elemental Magic Schools of Ice and Wind Mage x2 - Sword, Frostbolt Spell (Dueling Pistol), Elemental Magic School Ice Warlock - Free Dagger, Lesser Magic School x2 Henchmen 3x - 2 Apprentices - Staff, Iceball Spell (Sling), Free Dagger, Cantrip 1 Frost Golem - Clockwork Construct My plan is hopefully use the ice/wind schools to my advantage and let the slings fly while the golem closes in. I will try to get my other mages Familiars ASAP and try to hire a Norse Shaman (more cold weather kicks), Lucky Charms, and hope to get warrior wizard upgrades across the board. Other hired swords I am looking at is an Ogre Bodyguard (a large Ice Elemental), another clockwork construct, maybe a witch?, or something else. Comments are, of course, always welcomed. | |

| Here's my ipothetical new warband of witch hunters, the "Ordo Maleficarum" band.
Captain, crossbow 85 Witch Hunter, sword and hammer 38 Witch Hunter, sword and hammer 38 Witch Hunter, sword and hammer 38 Priest of Sigmar, double hammer 46
3 Flagellants with flail 55*3=165 5 warhounds 15*5=75 Halfling Scout 15
How is it? I find rather complicated how to equip my captain, since pistols would be a fair good choice but we are using the special black powder side effect rule...

| You should try to fit a crossbow pistol in for your captain. I believe that would be a good choice since you can fire each turn, and you could still give him a sword. I would also suggest having your captain a little more melee oriented than the hunters, since he starts with a better WS, use 2 of your hunters as fire support with crossbows. If you also want to try something fancy try equiping your priest with 2 hammers and see about getting him the "step-aside" skill to make him a little more survivable in melee. I'm pretty new to this game as well, but I have been playing with a Witch Hunters list as well. | |

| There are no "forced weapon buys" for Ostlanders now. The warband was updated in the Mordheim Annual and that rule was replaced with one that meant Ostlanders could only hire the Ogre Hired Sword and no other type of hireling. On the matter of warband cost, you could swap out the 2nd sword on some of those models for axes or clubs to save gold. Given that a pair of swords doesn't do much anyway (without applying a house rule), it's not a bad idea. | |

| Ah, another sisters of sigmar player! I would ditch the relic and the blessed water as they are not that usefull, especially to a starting warband. The two sigmarite warhammers on the sisters superior are also a little bit too much for a beginning warband, redistribute them to the third sister superior and the augur. If your augur gets good advances she will become pretty much unstoppable, so give her every chance to get XP you can. For your henchmen my advice is to change the sigmarite warhammers for normal ones and use the saved money to buy more henchmen ( or is that henchwomen ? ). If you want to you can always buy them later in a campaign. Novices are usefull as cheap meat shields, so buy some of them. In my opinion three should be in every sisters warband. Give them a normal hammer and use them in the front row to soak up enemy ranged attacks and charges. Counterattack with your heroes and you will quickly gain important XP for the heroes. Giving all of your models slings is advisable, but be aware that this will probably quickly annoy all of your opponents. I only use them on about half of my models (and we have no double shot as a houserule). | |

I only use them on about half of my models (and we have no double shot as a houserule). I took your advice and dropped the Blessed Water. I figure I can always buy that after the first match if I think I'll be playing against players where it would be useful. I distributed a few more slings. I'm keeping the Holy Relic. I like the idea of being able to ignore the first leadership test for my Leader. SoS have good leadership, but I dont like that 1/3 chance of failing a rout test after 3 models go OOA. I gave the Augur a steel whip, to help her get some kills. (Good defensive weapon as well) Unfortunately, I only have 9 models. Otherwise I would try to squeeze in a small group of Novices for fodder. I will see if I can find somewhere that would sell me a blister or two. (I want the matriarch with a whip model as well)Thank you for your suggestions. Edit: Turns out I have 10 models, not 9. I'm gonna see if I can include a pair of Novices.

Merged with apropriate thread. -cianty I know you posted this over a month ago, but in the event you're still working on your warband I'd like to give my thoughts. Right now, your Warband looks amazing, but I would suggest getting rid of the Flails on the Black Skaven. Replace them with Halberds. (Skaven Heroes can use Halberds) They're 5gc cheaper, and retain their benefit throughout each round of combat, not just the first. Plus Black Skaven are already S4, so S5 would mean that they wound MOST units on a 2+ roll anyway. By exchanging the Flails for Halberds, and possibly dropping the Spear from your Sorcerer, you could afford to hire an extra fully equipped Verminkin for one of your groups. The benefit of this would be that your roster would be 13 strong, and rout after 4 kills, instead of 3.

| Hi ! I put this topic on the CDO forums but I thought I'll put it here to ! This is the beginning warband list I wrote to have a view of what I want to do for my conversions :
HEROES
1 sorcerer, 85 gold crowns with a sword and a dagger, 10 gold crowns
I equipped him with a sword because I wanted a defensive equipment, as I don't really want my pricey mage in combat and I figured I'd rather have a parry than any other special rule in case it happened.
1 bull centaur, 100 gold crowns with two hammers, 6 gold crowns
I wish I could buy a halberd for him instead ...
1 gaoler, 50 gold crowns with a steel whip and a mace, 13 gold crowns and a blunderbuss, 30 gold crowns
This I find to be an interesting combinaison, as it gives the gaoler 3 attacks. I gave him the blunderbuss too, but I could give it to the other gaoler, or to a dwarf warrior ? I didn't knew what was best so I settled on what I wanted to convert ( I have a model in mind for him).
1 gaoler, 50 gold crowns with a double-handed weapon, 15 gold crowns
I wanted to have something else than two maces for a change, and as M3 I2 creatures are likely to be charged and not likely to go first, the strike last special rule isn't a huge problem.
HENCHMEN
1 informer (hobgoblin model), 15 gold crowns with a sling and a club, 5 gold crowns
1 informer (skaven model), 15 gold crowns with a sling and a club, 5 gold crowns
1 informer (human model), 15 gold crowns with a sling and a club, 5 gold crowns
1 informer (ungor model), 15 gold crowns with a sling and a club, 5 gold crowns
1 chaos dwarf, 40 gold crowns with an axe and a shield, 10 gold crowns
This is just because I have a model equipped like this that looks cool.
TOTAL 490 gold crowns 9 models
I have 10 crowns left and I figured I could just save them to get another chaos dwarf henchmen as soon as possible.
Voila ! I am not sure of the equipment of most of the heroes (and especially who should carry the blunderbuss, too ! ) and I could change things around a bit. Thank you for reading ! What do you think about it ?

| Hi,
a cheesy CD warband I just made looks like this:
Sorcerer 85 Dagger, Mace 3 88
Bull Centaur 100 Dagger, Mace 3 103 = 191
Gaoler 50 Dagger, Steel Whip 10 60 = 251
Gaoler 50 Dagger, Mace 3 53 = 304
4 Chaos Dwarfs 4x40 Dagger, Mace 3 172 = 476
Informer 15 Dagger, Sling 2 17 = 493
I maxed out on the Chaos Dwarf henchmen because I don't want any of them to miss a game, i.e. miss early experience. This is necessary to have a maximum chance at getting a Henchmen Hero as soon as possible. With the 4 starting heroes that seems very important. I'd buy Informers for spare money after games.
