| I'm new to the game as well, but I'll offer what I can based on what I've read and experienced in similar games ( Necro, Gorka). First I'd like to say thanks for naming all your warriors! Looking forward to the story. I think luxuries like helmets can wait a few games, as can two expensive hired swords. If you must have a hired sword starting out, I’d go with the cheaper one and upgrade later. If you have 9 models you can get that all important 3 model rout number, so I would try for that. One of the perks of Mercenaries is access to almost every weapon and it is tempting to go all out, that’s what Marienburgers are for! As Reiklanders you should take advantage of your marksmen's high BS, but you only have one. Granted every model can shoot (except maybe the wizard) most have average BS starting out. I would drop the elf and helmets and the bows on your Youngbloods. This would give you 80gc. If you replace the Dueling Pistols with regular pistols you save another 30gc. You can always upgrade later and pas the older pistols to your other heroes. So with 110gc you can afford two more Marksmen with Crossbows and have 10gc left over for future purchases or equipping them with maces to defend themselves with when those Skaven climb up to your perch! Anyway, the equipment options are ultimately personal taste, the only urgent thing that needs addressing is to drop one or both hired swords in my humble opinion. Good Luck in the upcoming games and I hope my advice isn't bad! | |

| Brilliant suggestions Pathfinder.
You could also remove the spears and replace them with something a little cheaper. You wouldn't save much but Youngbloods are cheap anyway! Give 'em maces or axes. That little gold could getcha something useful elsewhere.
Just a little idea. I haven't played much for a while so my brian isn't up to scratch.

Side Note: Which rule do you use for spears "Always Strike first" or "Strike by Initiative" ?

| "Strike by initiative" is the official rule now, isn't it? So spears are not the most efficient weapon you can give to your youngbloods, and with their BS2, don't expect they can hit someone with their bows ! Handguns aren't a good choice too, it's a little expensive than crossbows, and their only advantage (-1 svg) is not balanced by their inconvenient (fire only one turn out of two). In my opinion, you have to take at least 3 marksmen with long bow or crossbow (it depends on the way you play). You can keep one of your Hired swords, but 2 are too much for a beginning warband... | |

Thanks I didn't know that. So You can't buy any equipment except weapon and armor in the start of the warband. Right?

| Yes, you can only buy the items listed in your respective equipment table. After the first game you may send your heores off to search for rare and miscellaneous items. (This rule prevents that all warbands start right away with 6 Lucky Charms, 6 Rabbit's Feet, 1 (Un)Holy Relic, etc. - these cheap but highly effective items need to be searched for by Heroes and thus your warband will only get hold of them after several battles.) | |

| Okay, I played this list the other day and it faired pretty well. The bows missed everything they shot at, but I don't know if I'm ready to write them off yet. Even though my dregs couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, the presence of two bows intimidated the other player. I may try swapping them out for spears in the future.
I have one point of confusion regarding the Undead list. The Ghouls have a special rule which states that they may not accrue weapons, but instead use rock and bones. The Ghouls also have a BS of 2. So, the rules imply that the Ghoul may throw rocks and bones. Is my interpretation correct? If so, is the strength of the bones/stones "as user"? |

| Hi everybody,
I have an Undead Ghoul question that needs answering.
Can a Ghoul throw rocks and bones?
Elements in Favor: 1. Ghouls have a BS of 2. Having a BS implies the ability to shoot. 2. Ghouls are not allowed to accrue weapons...ever! This means that the only weapons they may fight with (ie shoot OR assault) are rocks and bones.
Elements Against: 1. There are no known stats for rocks and bones, such as range, strength, etc. 2. The rules do not explicitly state that Ghouls may throw rock and bones. |

| the BS would be there on the chance that if a ghoul becomes a heor through 'the lad's got talent' they may potentially take a missile weapon by one of the skills.
don't take this as hard fact, i don't have my rulebook handy, it's more theorising.
still, it's potentially a good houserule, maybe range would be twice users strength, with wounds taken at the strength of the user, with a +1 to save like a dagger.

No. A Ghoul that becomes a Hero cannot choose the Shooting skill list because no Hero in the Undead warband has access to it. Now even if he could somehow learn the Weapons Expert skill, which is what you're alluding to I guess, then still "Ghouls never carry any equipment, apart from a few bones which they use as primitive weapons." So the Ghoul Hero would still not be allowed to use any (game relevant) weapons or armour.

I suppose this is one of those bugs they never managed to get out before the game went under. |

BTW Have any of you ever come across this inconsistency before? |

I don't think it's a typo and I certainly don't see it as a "bug". Not everything has to be functional. I think the stats profile serves the purpose of defining the ghoul as an inhabitant of the Old World just like it roughly defines any other creature... what does BS 2 tell you? Well, it tells you that ghouls apparently have a crude sense of depth perception even if they don't make any ballistic use of it on the tabletop level (they might actually chuck stones in a RPG). _________________

| Tom is right. This is neither a bug nor an inconsistency. Having a BS is not related to actually using missile weapons. Beastmen all have BS although neither Gors nor Ungors nor the mighty Bestigors use any bows or similar weapons. Chaos Warriors have a BS of 6, they are better than even the famous Tilean Marksmen. But thank Sigmar they despise range weapons. Do you think it would make sense to give all the Empire units that use close combat weapons only a BS of 0 rather than the common BS 3? No, it wouldn't make sense. The profile represents the physical capabilities of the warrior, it does not represent the personal preferences of the model. | |
