When introducing new players to Mordheim I find that they think fear is a cluttered mechanic and they find it unintuitive.
Now I'm not saying that revamping fear is right for every group, but I'd like to hear your takes on revamping fear.
Here are some of mine:
TAKE 1: SIMPLE
Whenever a warrior charges or is charged by an enemy that causes fear, he must roll equal to or under his Leadership on 2D6.[*]If failed, he only hits on natural 6s in close combat that turn. (Against all enemies or against that one enemy?)[*]Fear only applies in the first round of combat.[*]Fear also applies when intercepting or intercepted
TAKE 2: Fear as General Condition
Whenever a warrior charges or is charged by an enemy that causes fear, he must roll equal to or under his Leadership on 2D6.[*]If failed, he suffers -1 to hit against all enemies that turn. Failing multiple fear tests will decrease a warriors 'to hit' rolls multiple times, but a natural 6 is always a hit.[*]Fear only applies in the first round of combat.[*]Fear also applies when intercepting or intercepted
TAKE 3: Fear as 1v1
Whenever a warrior charges or is charged by an enemy that causes fear, he must roll equal to or under his Leadership on 2D6.
If failed, he strikes last vs. that enemy in close combat that turn, and suffers -1 to hit against that enemy that turn. (But not against other enemies.)
(Even if a warrior would normally strike first because of charging or being armed with a Spear or Halberd, he strikes last against the enemy that caused him to fail his fear test.)
Fear only applies in the first round of combat.
Fear also applies when intercepting or intercepted.
