| Hello everyone! I must preface this thread by saying that the inspiration for this warband came from Warboss Kurgan's amazing pirate orcs. I bought lots of bits a year ago or so and have been hoarding any orc and ork models I can find. I've finally gotten around to actually building and painting some of the models. Some of the models have guns. 40k guns. Sorry! My plan is to build this squad in such a way that it can be used as a 40k skirmish squad for Deathsquads and as a fantasy warband for Mordheim. You may also notice that they are on round bases. In games of Mordheim I will build magnetic 25mm square bases that they attach to. As I rarely play games these days I am not too worried at the moment. First up, here is an ork pirate prisoner I sent to Mordheimer for the deathsquads prisoner exchange. Simple conversion I painted the browns using zenithal highlights with an airbrush. Painted up. From the rear. | |

| Here are the first few pirates almost ready for painting. I figure that the grots gun can count as a short bow in Mordheim. I have a nice little set of these almost ready for painting. I have a few other conversions I will show as they are finished and then hopefully I can post up some painted models. Comments and constructive criticism are always appreciated. Thanks! | |

| Very nice conversions, and top-notch paintjob on the first fella! I keep on going back to ogle the pictures, as I am soaking up inspiration for my next unit of Ork Freebooter Pirates because, yes indeed, one single unit of Ork pirates isn't enough (at all ) | |

| Primo stuff! Your conversions are smooth, and have the look of an original part of the mini - great work! While the gun of the first orc looks a little un-Mordheimy, it's still cool! Perhaps there is some way to convert those guns slightly to make them look a little bit more fantasy? | |

| Nice to see you posting over here, Narcissus. Your Orc(k)s are FANTASTIC. Not only are the conversions & bases WONDERFUL, but the brushwork on Peg Leg is INCREDIBLE. VERY WELL DONE! I wouldn't worry about the bases; there's just about no agreement on an official base anyway. | |

| Thanks everyone. HumanFly-I really like some of the starter orcs and orks. I really want to try and build this up with many of the extremely varied ork and orc sets. Quase-Orks do tend to get a bit out of control. I already have more ideas than a squad can really support. folketsfiende-I have been thinking about making some pistols. I am not sure exactly how to do it and make it look "right". I will give it a try though. The original model, Pegleg, was intended for straight 40k. Some of the models will be 40k only and some will be more fantasy aligned. DeafNala-I am beginning to join your school of thought on basing and models. Form first, function second! I play rarely enough, I may as well just do what I like for the most part. This forum really drew me into skirmish games so I'm happy to be back here again. Your renegade is still proudly displayed on my shelf! JoaoS and Theorox-I really enjoy basing and adding a lot of detail. I have also been working on an octopus sculpt. It is not quite fiinshed, but it is getting close. This is my first attempt at a scratch sculpt. I have a few unfinished, bad attempts. This one is going pretty well. We will see how it paints up though. It will be coming out of the water, which will fill the hollowed out base. I am still adding details on the eyes and a few more suckers and then it should be done. | |

| That octopus looks super! Hollowing out the base is a great idea. Will you use water effect? | |

| That looks TERRIFIC! You are a natural with the sculpting...painting too. The Octopus reminds me of a couple of the Rackham/Confrontation Goblin Pirates. VERY WELL DONE! Elaborate bases only become an issue in games if the Rules have a line of sight proviso or if your opponent is a rules lawyer...& who wants to play with one of those people? | |

| It has been so long since I posted anything here. Sorry! I do have some progress to report though. Two boys with two hand weapons and a grot with a pea shooter/short bow. This boy is from the WHFB 6th edition box. I just gave him an eye patch and a peg leg. I quite like the expression on the face of this chap. I tried a new recipe for painting the skin. I wanted some nice contrast, but not too bright, and wanted the blends to be smooth enough to avoid it completely looking like a watermelon. The grot. Comments and criticisms always appreciated! Any ideas for great pirate orcs? Things they might be doing. I loved Warboss Kurgan's ork playing an accordion. | |

| I did finally finish the last details on the orctopus sculpt as well. It will be a troll in Mordheim. I am unsure how to paint it though. I am thinking about airbrushing white underneath and a reddish colour on top. Any ideas? All I have added is an eyelid and more suckers. I made this fun little grot too (and a few more like it). It took a long time to make all of the suckers. | |

| It may have been awhile coming, but the update was worth the wait. The new Pirate Lads are TERRIFIC, IMAGINATIVE pieces. Although I tend to go for flashier color schemes, your brushwork is first rate...I really like your rust effect. The Squid is INCREDIBLE. The additional tentacles are a fine idea...the Goblin involved with one would disagree I'm sure; they give a feel for how very large the Beasty is. VERY WELL DONE on all counts. | |

| Oh my god, this post went by me without recognicing it, what a shame. Those greenstuffskills of yours are fantastic, i LOVE the octopussy, and the orcs as well. I would go with a purple or slime green theme for the octo. The bases are awesome, MORE!! _________________ Lord Flasheart: And always remember - if you want something, take it! Bobby! | Wow! Very well done sir! Good idea for your octopus base. I used the same "trick" to make some for Gaspez-arts. In this way you can add water effect and have a base not exemely high. | |
