| Ahoy! I can't find any exceptional model kits for riverboats or ships for that matter. There is a lot of stuff out there but nothing has the suitability for gaming purposes or the type of look I want. The look I am after is simple... Warhammer! As a consequence, I decided to start making one. It's a kind of fishing trawler, I think. I did this even though I assembled Forge World's 'Wonder of the Age' because (let's face it) the Marienburg Landship is more like a bus than a boat! Ok, so it's a paddle-boat with wheels and chassis. The rationale behind building watercraft is to make use of the rules for riverboats and barges in Empire in Flames, by developing fun new scenarios that require one or more players warband to have a boat. Also there aren't enough threads about making model boats. Regards, Capt Werekin | |

| I really like the idea of warbands having access to a boat! The idea of a battle on the docks is nothing really new, but it'd be great to see some ships coming up and unloading a bunch of surly fighters on the waterfront, ready for a good scrap! | |

| Bless my barnacles! Here is an update from Werekin's boatyard. I am currently stuck until I get some 'worky bitz' from that wily river-rat 'Frogprince' to finish the steam-engine at the ship's rear. I should probably explain that the boat-build features a mash-up of components from one of the old screaming bell kits plus an old orc stone thrower. Everything else construction-wise is strips of walnut and lime, Slaters plasti-kard, brass chain and foam board cut it layers to form the hull. Before I started, there was a rough idea in my head of how I would go about the job. There have been a few modifications along the way of course. A couple of things didn't go according to plan. Generally speaking it was all less difficult to execute than I had imagined! The main drag had been just getting the thing started. Now that the Tipsy Troll is looking ship-shape I would be tempted to assemble a couple of small wagons/carts to transport illegal cargo on the mainland. | |

| Steam engines! Why in my day a batch of oarsmen or a good wind were good enough to ply the river! Young ones have no respect for god or man, I say! Can't wait to see the next bitz. | |

| Seriously don't tempt me! Whilst oars or a mast would look very wicked from as aesthetic point of view, they would likely get in the way of models and the dockside, not to mention increase the chance of any breakages. This captain has made a visit to the shipwright in the post battle sequence and forked-out for his galley to 'customised'. | |

| With that secret compartment for smuggling cargo I hope the captains name is Hans Olo. Looking awesome Werekin. I'd love my crew to board and loot it. | |

Olovald is a minor river deity and an associated saint or aspect of Manann. Hidden compartment had to be one of the first boat modifications to go down on the list! - Quote :

Geez thanks. That's another special scenario which needs to be devised to fight out a boarding action. All hands on deck! | |

| Van der Decken's Boatyard, in the Craftsmarket has a long established reputation. After sorting through all of the Citadel components down at the building yard of Marienburg's most renowned shipwrights I was able to lay my hands on the exact sized boat engine to steam power the Tipsy Troll. Here is a view of how the engine fits, from the underside of the riverboat. | |
