Golden Tom Competition 2008

Do you have to be a registered member of this forum in order to take part in the competition? If so, you should probably say so, if not also.

Well im in, 2 months, should be enough time for me to paint a least one model
Im a only a medicore(thats the word right??) painter, but nothing wrong to enter for fun.

One question: Is it only the paint job that count or does a good convertion give extra point ??

I have worked out 3 models for determining the winners so far. I still have to decide which one to adopt.

However all 3 models will loosely take into account he following points (in radom order):

- Paintjob
- Humour
- Conversion
- Originality
- Basing
- Personality (Human factor or "soul")

Please try not to give too much attention to this list. It is really more a question of how "cool" yor model is to look at

The final decision will lie with the overall impression your model(s) make(s).

It is not compulsory to convert. It is not compulsory to paint like michelangelo. It is not compulsory to make a complicated basejob... these are all just advantages.

one more question, i think not, but since it's an open competition, can you participate with scenery too?

Are you supposed to just hand in the model, or is a background story required/bonuspoints? - I just love good fluff to a model! so it might be cool to make that a point?

@ Matt: Only models. There may well be a scenery competition in the future, but this one is just about models

@ Ezekiel: You are right. it did say single miniature. Of course you can write some fluff for your model if you feel like it! But it won't be taken into account for the ranking.

I'd like to vote for the Mordheim Nemesis Crown supplement to be added to the list of respectable publications for this contest since it was commissioned by Andy Hall, head of Specialist Games and produced by a bunch of capable people.

Once the Winners & those who the Judges [from HELL] didn't smile upon are posted, doing bits of fluff to accompany the photos would be OH SO COOL [man]!

count me in, this is gonna be awesome. It'd be cool to have a beauty shot, i.e in a scene with atmospheric lighting, and then 3 pics of the model on a white background in different positions. Also fluff sounds good, even if it's just characters name, profession, age etc.

Uh-oh. Stiff competition... if UnderBheit also decides to join then it sure is a tough competition.

I whole heartedly agree. I'm NOT much of a painting contest fan, BUT just the thought of ALL the COOL MINIS this contest will generate is Ecstasy!. AND <LOVE IT , even though it DOES give me motion sickness

after having posted my first minis and after having found out that there is a "general" general discussion section (somehow i completely missed it until the boring blog pointed out this competition... don't ask me how), i think i'll enter as well - at least this will give me the necessary pressure to paint my warband within less than half a year
