Mordheim - Pirates of the Karibbean Empty
PostSubject: Pirates of the Karibbean   Mordheim - Pirates of the Karibbean Icon_minitimeFri 15 Jul 2011 - 5:44

Quote :
The Pirates of the Karibbean
The gavel came down with such force that the inkwell standing nearby toppled, the liquid flowing thick like dark blood to run off the end of the bench and pool on the floor. For the entire world looking like blood dripping from a fresh wound. The crowd in the hot courtroom murmured as the Lord Judge glared at the defiant man before him. The pirate stood mockingly before the court, his rich clothing smoothed, his wig in fashion, his shoes shined to a sheen that reflected the sparse light streaming in through the open doors. His shackles clinked in the hot breeze as the Lord Judge rendered his verdict.

“Swan Jorgenson, having been found guilty of piracy, larceny, rape, murder, brigandry, impersonation of a Naval Officer, impersonation of a priest of Sigmar and other crimes too numerous to count, I hereby sentence to be removed from this place to a suitable place of execution where upon you will be hanged by the neck until dead! Further more I order your body to be dipped in tar and displayed for a period of no less than three years on the Death’s Head Island to serve as a warning to all others that might follow your example, and what their fate will be. Do you have anything to say before I have you removed from my sight?”

Smiling broadly, the Marienburger turned to face the court. Men with stern faces regarded the pirate while several women were unable to face the killer and hid their faces behind folded fans or suddenly felt the desire to gaze out of the door. More than a few of the women looked on the outlaw with sadness, fond memories of romps with the nefarious Imperial still lingering in their minds and loins.

“My name was Captain Jorgenson, when I sail'd, when I sail'd, And so wickedly I did, Sigmar’s laws I did forbid, When I sail'd, when I sail'd. I roam'd from sound to sound, and many a ship I found, and then I sunk or burn'd, When I sail'd. I murder'd Billy Moore, and laid him in his gore, Not many leagues from shore, When I sail'd. Farewell to young and old, all jolly seamen bold, you're welcome to my gold, for I must die, I must die. Farewell to Nassau town, the pretty girls all round, No pardon can be found, and I must die, I must die, Farewell, for I must die. Then to eternity, in hideous misery, I must lie, I must lie. “

Shouts of outrage, cheers, and gasps all at once competed for room in the cramped chamber, as the pirate was forcibly removed, dragged forth by his chains by livered guards. The pirate Jorgenson was hanged three times, the first two times the rope breaking before his neck. His body was then tarred and strung up on Death’s Head Island where it remained for nearly six years. His treasure trove was never found…

Mordheim - Pirates of the Karibbean SvetiJovan_EN-US1096946935

Avast ye swabs! The Venerable Mordheim Campaign has set sail on the shinning waters of the Karibbean. Ships have been stolen off the docks of Port Sigmar, cargoes hijacked and lubbers rubbed out for looking at a tar cross-eyed. Orcs and runaway slaves repelled a raid by an Imperial crew from Reikland on Torktuga. Some hearty tars form Marienburg thwarted a skaven plot to steal a great cannon from the fort at Torktuga's harbor.

Plots have been hatched and careers launched! Avast I say!

Reports of the first evenings games to follow.

Week 1--Storm Warnings

Mordheim - Pirates of the Karibbean Bhc1246700vb8

Rock the Boat
A variant of Defend the Find

The storm blew up suddenly, seemingly out of a clear morning sky. The Rais had just inventoried the cargo of his newest prize when the wind began to howl. The men had enough time to secure the mooring lines, then the rain began to fall in sheets. Two of the janissaries were caught on the docks. They had been acting as lookouts, but the storm eliminated the need for their job. The men on the ship rode the pitch of the waves and found whatever shelter they could.

As his crew huddled about the deck Al Kuds became aware of a different sound. He peered through the rain out into the harbor. At first he thought one of the ships had snapped its anchor. But he realized that the sounds he heard were not those of frightened men but more like an angry mob. “Avast my desert curs,” he cried above the shriek of the wind. “Look lively! Prepare to repel boarders!”

The crew lined the rails. Out of the storm a mob of infidel soldiers appeared, the damned Navy, raiding Torktuga during a storm! The infidels came from farther out in the harbor along a narrow wooden dock. The Arabyans marveled at the madness of the infidel as they prepared to send the dogs to hell. Akbar and loud Baibars leapt the rail and joined the janissaries that had watched the town as they rushed to block the infidel rush.

The Arabyans drew first blood. Baibars killed an infidel swordsman with a wicked slash of his cat. The Arabyans gave a shout and pressed forward. Then a janissary slipped and fell into the sea. An infidel leapt into the open space. The man stayed on his feet and cut right and left. The men battling on the dock scarce noticed that the storm had passed on. Then arrows began to fall among them. Archers had got behind them under the cover of the storm.

“Into the boats!” ordered Rais Al Kuds. Baibars and Akbar had suffered wounds, two of the janissaries lay bleeding on the docks, the Faithful were surrounded but there were jolly boats laden with the pick of the cargo. The Navy had abandoned their own boats out in the harbor. It was enough.

Post Battle
The Arabyans collect the maximum three treasures for occupying the 'find' at the end of the game. Baibars is laid up for a bit. Akbar becomes Mad. He is now subject to frenzy. The stolen cargo is a rich one. The Arabyans keep some medical supplies for the future.

The Marienburgers capture the ship. One swordsman was killed. The ship provides plenty of loot. The cursed Navy finds a Friendly Flag that the Arabyans overlooked. To further vex the town the Marienburgers confiscated a shipment of rum that they noticed on the pier nearby. The gullible Imperials are sold a fake Lucky Charm by a harbor vendor in retribution.
The Marienburgers gain 5 Campaign Points. (Monarch of the Seas)
Arabyans: 1 CP. (Lure of Fortune)

Skirmish
Meanwhile near the Blowhole...

Mordheim - Pirates of the Karibbean AssassinMarkGibbons

The big storm hardly touched the Blowhole. Either way the storm was over before the real fun began that day. The huge tavern and the streets nearby were packed with drunken sailors from everywhere in the world (and a few perhaps not of the world, if ye know what I'm sayin). Hardly noon yet they say, but ye know Torktuga: time don't mater, rum does.

Skuttlebut has it the skaven started it, others maintained it was a crew of orcs (ye know orcs). There are even a few that claim that Conrado Aguilar of Muros fought in the brawl. Skewered a skaven assassin or an orc chieftan, it is said. Sometimes they claim he did both. Others claim he fought for the skaven, but the skinflint rat-men refused to pay up when the orcs were beat. Coulda happened.

Everybody pretty much agrees the orcs woulda taken the rats, but the crowd got spooked and run right over those greenskins. Flattened 'em good and proper, so the rats just cut a few helpless throats and that was that. Lubbers claim the suddenness of the victory made the rats cocky, figured they could run a con on old Conrado. He stuck one of them good that's sure (well sorta sure). Conrado faced the rest of the pack down with a bloody blade and slipped away. Good story anyways.

Post Battle
The orcs took some lumps. A Big 'Un suffers Horrible Scars. EvilTed got to roll 3 dice rolled 3 ones! The ladz find some free rum!
Da Mob: 1 CP (Scourge of the Seas Objective)

Clan Eshin got lucky due to the orcs getting trampled on the last turn of the stampeding crowd. This led them to not pay the free Swashbuckler that had joined them for the fight. The Swashbuckler wounded a random hero and escaped. Things turned out pretty good for the Skaven, nonetheless, free rum (three more 1s) and an abandoned crate of Imperial Handguns (Booty).
Clan Eshin: 2 CP (Silent Threat)

Down on the Docks
Later that same week...

Mordheim - Pirates of the Karibbean Solomonshipsoy1

Rais Al Kuds fumed over the loss of the prize ship, but he was not one to sit idly while others prospered. His spies quickly identifed a weakly guarded vessel. The Rais formed a shore party and hastened to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the beneficence of the One. However, the early winter storms added an element of uncertainty to the enterprise.

Barely had the Arabyans reached the quayside when another ferocious storm broke upon them. The fury of the storm failed to drive the infidel revelers from the area. The Rais and his men were forced to shove their way through the throng of intoxicated fools getting soaked by the warm winter's deluge. Soon they could see the masts of their quary jutting above the ruins of Torktuga's delapitated defenses.

"Forward with all speed!" ordered the Rais. "Their lookouts will spot us soon!"

The squad of janissaries spread out to clear a path for the Rais. Their speed did not improve as the crowd refused to be displaced. Indeed it seemed that something was pushing the revelers into the path of the Faithful.

"Dere be da Sand Eaters!" a gutteral voice cried. "Rub 'em out!"

The Faithful looked aghast at a towering greenskin who spoke the thieves' cant of distant Al-Haikk. A green-skinned archer on the giant's left loosed an arrow at the nearest janissary. The drunken crowd reacted by stampeding over everyone. The line of janissaries disappeared under panicked drunks and their terrified women. A crew of Remassens rushed straight over the unfortunate orc archer, but they rebounded from the breast of the huge orc as though they had hit a boulder. Atabeg got the wall of a ruined tower to his back and sent an arrow into the melee. Then someone broke a bottle over his head and he slumped down by the wall.

Tariq got inside of one of the buildings and barred the door against the mob. Then he sought a window to snipe at the beleaguered orcs. The Arabyans sought shelter in the buildings or tried to form a line to restist the crowd. Both the orcs and the Arabyans shoved back against the crowd to close with their enemies. Suddenly the last of the drunks was clear and the antagonists faced each other on the storm drenched streets.

The orc's officers had pushed ahead of their weaker underlings. They rushed toward the battered Arabyans full of confidence. One janissary fell before a magical green club, but one of his fellows ran the orc shaman through. The large orc who had defied the crowd found himself in a narrow alley where his large crude sword could not beat down the guard of his more nimble opponents.

Without their leaders the lesser orcs and goblins fled the quay.

The Arabyans faced the crew of the smugglers' ship across the blood stained docks. The smugglers were men of the Empire and Tilea. They, too, felt that it was their efforts which had routed the orcs.

"Get 'em ye poxed lubbers!" ordered their captain. The two crews clashed on the narrow dock. The smugglers from the north were abandoned by their false gods. Their captain was knocked into the harbor. The men who followed him onto the dock were captured or killed. The cowards who had stayed on the ship abandoned it and fled after the orcs.

Bost Battle
The orcs fared poorly in exploration, but did fairly well on recovery rolls. Another Big'Un causes fear.
Orcs total for the night: 2 CPs

The Arabyans cleaned up. No one died. The captured cargo yeilded food, beer, 2 doses of poisons, an Elven Cloak and a suit of armor. In addition one of the smugglers was enslaved.
Arabyans total for the night: 6 CPs

We are using a little of EVERYTHING! Sartosa for the port locations; Warhammer Ahoy! for the seas; Lustria for the jungles and lost city and Border Town for the Objectives framework.

Capturing ships or boats is a big deal for most of the Objective paths, except Silent Threat which didn't change much.

We have the Monarch of the Seas (Scion of Chaos). The players represent the powers of the old world and their quest for power and dominion in the New.

Scourge of the Seas (Scourge of the Realm) is pretty similar, except with ships.

Lure of Fortune is mostly unchanged except the trade goods are Lustrian and there are no wagons, SHIPS!

Silent Threat--the skaven player really wanted to be Scourge but bowed to pressure from his peers to follow tardition.

Week 1--continued

The Great Gun I

Mordheim - Pirates of the Karibbean Stormyencountertn7

The story begins on a storm wracked night.  A group of Marienburgers with Imperial backing set out to impound one of the last harbor guns in Torktuga.  They had picked a great night for it, but that's the Navy for you.  It was pitch black with a nice steady rain.  Still this was Torktuga, even the docks were packed with drunken tars and the shady ladies who loved them.  The Marienburgers made no headway.

Then a warm wind blew up from the west.  (Sartosan Event 24: Western Wind) The rain slackened, but the great strom clouds continued to roll over the harbor blocking out the stars.  With the wind a rumor swept the crowded jetty.  Out in the harbor lubbers claimed to see a drifting boat crammed with treasure.  Had the crew been swept overboard by the storm?  No one knew. but the crowd surged toward the docks, eager for a glimpse of the new curiosity.  The rumor inflated the size of the boat and the amount of wealth.

The Marienburgers split their forces in hopes of intercepting the drifting boat, but the party assigned the task never even saw the craft.  Instead sling stones and throwing knives arced out of the surging crowd.  Women screamed.  Men drew steel.  The Navy lads found themselves hard pressed to stay upright let alone move.  They searched the panicked crowd for their attackers and tried to form a defensive line.

Once the mass of fleeing revelers was gone the Navy confronted a pack of mutant rat-men who were also trying to liberate the gun.  A murderous brawl broke out on the stone deck of the sea-wall.  The brave lads from Marienburg defeated the rat-men's leader and the cowardly mutants fled into the night.  The victorious Navy guarded the gun until dawn when they could remove it from its emplacement.

Post Battle
Clan Eshin's Assassin Adept survived his wounds.  The skaven failed to intercept the drifting boat of treasure before they routed, but they did find a cache of handguns abandoned on the docks.  Clan Eshin reports the loss of a giant rat and a verminkin, neither is mourned.
Clan Eshin: 1 CP

The Penny Pinchers report no losses.  The captured gun is converted into cash.  The Navy also reports a suspicious crate containing Crimson Shade as impounded along with the cannon.
Penny Pinchers: 2 CP

The Merchant Square
A clash between the Castaways, Black Orcs and Reiklanders

Mordheim - Pirates of the Karibbean 5fingerscoverpz8

A shore party of Reiklander marines tried to raid the main market of Torktuga during a big storm.  The Reiklanders were repulsed with high losses, though none of the casualties suffered permanent harm.  The Black Orcs took advantage of the carnage to loot an uppity humie beer merchant, got some of his Bugman's.   Somehow the orcs also ended up with some extra swords and bucklers.

There was a rumor that a monster had been haunting the market, but none was seen.  Perhaps it doesn't like the rain.

Reiklanders: 1 CP (Monarch of the Seas)

Black Orcs: 1 CP (Scourge of the Seas)

Castaways: 2 CP (?)

The Great Gun II
More rumors.

Borrgut Facebeata's Sea Gitz tried raiding Port Sigmar.  Details are sparse. Rumor says the orcs were going to steal themselves a Big Booma.  The Reiklanders were reinforced by the local garrison.  Out numbered and out gunned the Sea Gitz fled.

Sea Gitz: 1 CP

Reiklanders: 2 CP

Week 2--Orcs versus Cold ones. Orcs 1, Cold Ones 2

Xlippahruichakk’s Cove
A variant of the Pool scenario

Mordheim - Pirates of the Karibbean Piratemuncher9jgfi1

The ancient known to the Scaled Ones as Xlippahruichakk was lonely. The lesser denizens of his realm bored him. The sea troll, the giant frog and the great serpent had no secrets from him. Their daily lives held no interest and little drama beyond their search for food and mates.

In desperation the great being caused some baubles to become visible in the shallows above. Perhaps some of the more sentient beings would be attaracted by the glitter of his trifles. Xlippahruichakk was intriged by greed. He knew that the creatures could not eat what they thought of as his 'treasures'. He had fed several of them all the gold and jewels they could eat. They seemed distressed by the experiment and none had prospered. It was most strange. The ancient could sense their desire for the gold, but not as food. Nor did they desire to mate with it. It was curious, that was what it was.

Xlippahruichakk sensed movement on the surface. The lesser creatures were agitated as well. The trolls began to hunt, as did the carnivorous frogs and the great serpents. Soon there was blood in the water. Strife meant food as well as entertainment. Bodies of various creatures begain to drift toward the bottom of the lagoon. Chakk (as he called himself) collected several in a few moments. But he did not allow himself to be distracted. The Ancient kept strict track of the bait he had placed.

Soon a warm blooded creature entered the lagoon. The ancient ceased chewing on a troll for a moment to guage the prey's worth. Beneath its fear and greed Chakk sensed intelligence, this one was indeed interesting. As the creature dived down to search, Chakk collected it. His new friend was suitably impressed with Chakk's majesty. Almost immediately another of the creatures entered the lagoon in the same place. Chakk collected this one as well. It was turning into a very rewarding day.

Post Battle
The Arabyans were attacked by 2 Cold Ones, a frog, a serpent and a troll. Many warriors went out of action without the Old Ones help. The slave was taken by a troll and a janissary was killed by Reiklanders. But the Arabyans were able to captue a Reiklander marksman and collected some truly exotic hides to ship back to the Old World.
Arabyans--1CP

The Reiklanders were attacked by another troll, which held them up as the Arabyans and Marienburgers rained arrows on them. One hero suffered a smashed leg, another will miss a game with a Deep Wound. A spearman is killed by the troll and a marksman captured by Arabyans.
Reiklanders--1 CP

The Marienburgers lost two Champions to Xlippahruichakk’s clutches. One fully recovered, Xlippahruichakk held on to the other for study. The Ancient eventually grew bored with trying to capture the other heroes and allowed the Penny Pinchers to loot all of the treasures.
Penny Pinchers--2 CP

Xlippahruichakk is awesome, but what a disturbing concept! Very Happy seems like an excellent dwarf trap, but can dwarfs swim or do they just float around?

@Alex--Xlippahruichakk (pronounced I am told as Slippery Jack) is Warboss Kurgan's creation. He just visits our campaigns when the Flame On lads are on vacation.
Dwarfs--We let everyone swim, though the Dwarfs avoid it if they can. Smile

The Hunters Become the Hunted
A Tale of Orcs and Cold Ones

Mordheim - Pirates of the Karibbean 600_Jungle_natura-000

Borrgut Facebeata looked uneasily around the small jungle clearing. Little scaly fing was right there not a heart beat ago. Now where did the zoggin' git go? Two earsplitting roars and an arrow cleared things up. Little bastard circled around behind them, he did! The little git was controlling those bigger beasts or this would be going differently. Zoggin fing was shaking Razzag like the big orc was a rat. Razzag looked pretty funny flying around like that.

"Get dem fings, ye lubbers!" Borrgut roared some himself. Felt good.

More animal roars answered his challenge. Even biggger scaled fings lumbered out of the jungle. Started chewing on the squigs. Fings were spittin', roarin' and chewin' all over the clearing. Razzag didn't look very lively. Gobbos runnin' around screaming. Squigs hopping. It was a right mess.

Borgut stuck his choppa through the little scaled git. He was a squishy one, he was! Killing the little git didn't seem to slow those other fings down much though. Borgut didn't know there were that many different kinds of scaled fings. It was right interesting, but he wasn't sure he could kill them all before the gobbos legged it. The squigs what were left looked a bit dodgy. Zaggazz was down. Some git was being sucked into a muddy hole in the ground while a gobbo hopped around and did nothing.

"Waauggh!"

Borgut perked up at the war cry until he realized that his lads hadn't voiced it. There were a bunch of black orcs on the far side of the clearing. That tore it! Big lubbers were rushing his gobbos. No way old Gooba hold up to that.

Post Battle
Da Sea Gitz got hit from all sides by Cold Ones, Salamanders, tar pits and maybe even some Amazon doxies and a few angry pygmies. THEN the black orcs showed up! Either Zaggazz or Razzag got eaten by a Cold One. (Both of the Big Uns ran into more Cold Ones after the battle. One made it back with a Cold One skin. One didn't make it back.)
The Sea Gitz end up with 2 Cold One hides for 90 gc. and the Cold One Whip. A new Big Un is recruited to replace the fallen.
Sea Gitz--1 CP

Da Ard Knokkas just chased the Sea Gitz off. Weakling orcs hanging with those cowardly gobbos, deserved every thing they got and was lucky they run when they did! Two orc henchmen are taken OOA by the Sea Gitz, but they recovered.
Da Ard Knokkas found a dead humie on a nearby island. Humie git had a nice map! A lad called Fut Slogga gains a promotion for kickin gobbos. Finally da boss hire this gobbo called Da Mad Bomma. Spiky headed little git.
Da Ard Knokkas--2 CP

The Secrets of Beujuntae
A Tale of Chaos and Betrayal in the Jungle

Mordheim - Pirates of the Karibbean Ancient

The moon-lit ancient temple was overgrown and decayed. The sharp eyes of the assassin known as the Silent Terror searched the area for enemies or wards. He saw nothing out of the ordinary, but the Cold Bloods could be very cunning. The assassin goaded a nearby rat forward with a prick of his Claws.

The beast squeaked and hopped forward. It scuttled along amid the undergrowth until it passed a peculiar plant. Suddenly the plant came alive! It grasped the struggling rat in vine-like tendrils. Then the vibrant crimson flower split to reveal a toothy maw! The huge rat was gone in an instant.

The assassin turned to two spear armed vermin-kin. "Stick-stab the flower," he ordered. "Quick-fast!"

One of the vermin leapt to do his bidding, but the other made an odd squealing sound. The black skaven next to the spear-vermin seemed to grow before their eyes. The transformed skaven looked at the other spear-vermin with glittering, hungry eyes. "Your blood will serve," it growled. Then it attacked the terrified skaven soldier before it could even blink.

The assassin spun and sunk into a fighting crouch. But even as the bloody apparition struck the spear-vermin down, it seemed to change again. The sense of terror left it. The black skaven collapsed on top of his victim,

The assassin prodded the fallen black skaven with his Claw. He glared at the nearby sorcerer. "There much power-hunger here!" he said. "Clan Eshin must capture-cage-control it!"

Post Battle
Clan Eshin suffers too many casualties to remain on the field. The plots of the Silent Threat do not advance.
Clan Eshin--1 CP

The Castaways gain at least the Magic Sickle (+1 WS) from the plundered tomb.

Jungle Skirmish
Orcs atttempt a night raid

Ard 'Ead Knokka, boss of the 'Ard Knokkas listened to the roars of hunting beasts as his lads marched through the rainy jungle night. One of them fings was getting closer. Maybe closer than the humies.

"Git up dere!" growled Ard 'Ead. "Git ye some teef!

Ard 'Ead kicked one of the young uns toward point. Time for the git to prove his stuff. The stupid little bastard wasted time on a glare toward his boss. Something with lots of teeth leapt out of the dark and latched on to the young un. Shook him good. CRACK! A couple of the lads jumped into the fight. Too late for the young un! One scaly beast was causing havok with his line.

Ard 'Ead was considering killing the beast himself when the other young un crumpled with a spear in his back. The zoggin' humies had closed in while the beast distracted them, Ard 'Ead tried to hold the lads but it was no use.

Duel on the High Seas
Da Sea Gitz does some Rat Exterminatin'

"Bring 'er about! Ye poxed lubber!" Kap'n Borrgut Facebeata roared in his helmsman's right ear, or what was left of his ear. A squig bounded past, narrowly missing going right over the aft rail. BOOM! There was an explosion amid ships. A goblin sailed over the rail.

"Larb'ard or starb'ard Kap'n?" replied the grizzled orc. The git was happily sailing them to the south, parallel to the enemy carrak. Smoke drifted in the wake of both ships. Borrgut still couldn't tell if he had guns left to bear or not. In the ship's wake Borrgut could see a green arm raised above the roiling waves.

"Cross yon bow or Ize gut ye!" Borrgut prodded the git with his choppa. The big ship started to turn immediately.

"Gunners! Fire as ye bear!" Borrgut could see at least one goblin left manning a gun. The skaven were trying to match the orc's turn, but the carrak had taken a pounding. She was heavy in the water, her sails flapping.

Borrgut's boarding party had finally been wiped out. Pity about that. The rat-devils had come right at them, trying to swarm over the rails. Hur! Even the goblins had proved better than those rats. The lads had met them and forced their way on to the skaven ship. Borrgut thought he had them then, but the slimy rat-devils had cut loose and trapped his ladz as the wind carried the rats' ship away. (Borrgut had ordered his anchor dropped when the rats boarded to make it a proper fight. He wouldn't do that again.)

"Urk!" An archer perched on the bow pitched overboard. In his place was a big rat-devil clad all in black with steel claws for hands, The archer's mate tried to draw his choppa but the claws caught him before he could get it clear.

BOOM! Borrgut's guns ripped a broadside into the bow of the wallowing ship. That done for 'em an all! The rat-devils showed no more fight. The big lubber on the bow disappeared before the gun smoke cleared.

Especially of the sea fights i would like to see some picture.

I never participated in a sea battle.

I hope that we will play again soon. But currently we are playing more on a once every month/two month basis.

Thanks for sharing.

Photos--Playtable seems to have taken an extended vacation from photography. He doesn't even pretend that he forgot the camera these days. Perhaps another appeal from the group is in order? (Hints and direct requests from me are having no impact,)

We had a 4 way sea battle on Sunday, which actually did turn into a fight among all warbands! No photos though.

Week 2.5--Exchanging Pleasantries

The Battle of Cayman Straights
An improptu naval skirmish

Mordheim - Pirates of the Karibbean Loutherbourg2cspanisharzx2

Rais Al Kuds winced as a plume of water erupted next to the Dancing Cloud, another near miss. There were three enemy vessels in the Straights besides the Cloud. A Marienburger, a Reiklander and the motley crew of escaped slaves and buccaneers on the ship that had just fired on the Cloud.

BOOM!
As the Dancing Cloud drew away from the buccaneers the Marienburgers fired on her next. The Dancing Cloud shuddered at the impact of the cannon ball, but sailed on. A few arrows pattered against the sides of the ship as the Marienburg archers tried to find the range.

Ahead the Reiklander cog wallowed against the wind. The cog tried an exploritory shot, but the ball flew wide.

"Fire on the infidel Marienburgers as ye bear!" ordered the Rais. He readied his bow as well but the distance was still too great. The crew crouched by the rails as the enemy crossbows sent more bolts toward them.

BOOM!
The Cloud's larboard gun scored a hit on the Marienburger's stern. The infidel vessel immediately swung out of line as her rudder ceased to respond to the helm. The Faithful had little time for celebration, however, as the Dancing Cloud suffered a similar hit from the buccaneers' guns!

The Rais sprang forward to assist Almah with the helm, but woe and calamity! He was struck down by a lucky crossbow bolt! Al Kuds was carried below by his faithful janissaries, but the damage had been done. The nimble carrack slewed to starboard. The cannon barrels were aimed at empty sea instead of any of the three enemy vessels. Men began to suffer from the arrow storm. Selim pitched form the bow as the Reiklanders made up for their poor gunnery with their famous skill at archery.

"Away the boat!" The jollyboat was lowered in the hopes that Selim could reach it before the sharks of the Karibbean reached him. The rest of the crew struggled to fix the shattered rudder or sent arrows at the looming Reiklanders.

The Faithful were offered some respite. The crippled Marienburgers regained some control of their ship. They engaged the buccaneers in a cannon and archery duel which left the buccaneers with most of their rigging shot away and several crewmen down. The buccaneer ship slowed and swung about to align their guns on the Marienburger. The buccan gun immediately missfired.

Aboard the Dancing Cloud Atabeg assumed command. The veteran mate had suffered a minor wound, but he fought on. The archers managed cause a number of casualties among the Reiklander crew.

BOOM!
The Faithful scored another hit on an ememy ship! The Reiklander suffered her rudder shot away. (Three of the ships involved in the fight now moved randomly half of the time.)
As the Reiklander wallowed helplessly a crossbow bolt punched one of her crew off the stern. The Reiklanders launched their jolly boat to rescue the lad.

Almah regained the use of the helm. She guided the Dancing Cloud back into a favorable wind. The Arabyan ship stalked the crippled Reiklander. The Arabyan cannon raked the decks of the infidel ship. The poor lad who had fallen overboard was wounded again and collapsed out of the fight in the wave tossed jolly boat.

"Aiieee!" Selim failed to reach the jolly boat before the sharks reached him.

Atabeg surveyed the surrounding sea. Both Imperial ships had withdrawn from the fight back toward Port Sigmar. The buccaneer ship was approaching slowly from the north. It was sailing sluggishly against the wind, but warriors still lined its rails. Atabeg prayed to the One that the repairs to the rudder would hold.

"Sail us close good Almah." Atabeg ordered. "Gunners fire as she bears. Archers make the infidels howl!"

The two damaged ships closed quickly. The Arabyan vessel responded to the helm. More men fell on both ships as clouds of arrows flew between them. The Arabyan gun damaged the enemy hull. The buccaneers' return shot destroyed the larboard gun and set the Dancing Cloud on fire! The Arabyans withdrew from the fight.

Week 3--Return to Port

Sneaking Into Town
A variation of Breakthrough

"Hush mon," cautioned the sailor. "De Navy lads be ver vigilant, eh?" The small group of armed pirates were past the walls of the darkened town. The huge bulk of the Temple of Manann loomed in front of them. Beyond it were the welcoming lights of the Three Sisters and the taverns of Port Sigmar.

"Halt!" the challenge rang out from the roof of the Temple. "Identify thyself and state thy business!"

"My business be with Missus Lucinda and her girls, mon," answered one of the buccans. "I got none with ye!"

The group laughed at their comrades insolence until one of them fell with a crossbow bolt in his thigh.

"Oh now ye shouldn't have done that, mon," growled a large pirate as he readied his own crossbow and sought cover. The square rang with cries of alarm and the ringing of the Temple bell. A half dressed lubber appeared on the balcony of the Three Sisters and put the pirates in a cross fire. Then a squad of the watch arrived and challenged the sniper. Rather than explain the man rushed back into the brothel. Women began to scream. The stout lads of the watch hastened to offer them aid.

Post Battle
The Reiklanders put up a stout defense, but they were out-numbered and the watch did not buy their explanaiton of raiding pirates until it was too late.
Reiklanders--1 CP

The buccaneers suffered heavy casualties but were highly motivated to reach the taverns. Once they got into the Temple the tide of battle turned in their favor.

The Great Gun III
A sequel in which the 'Ard Knokkas drinkin' is interupted

Mordheim - Pirates of the Karibbean BloodAndThunder

Da Ard Knokkas
Boss 'Ard 'Ead Knokka scowled at the trembling goblin. 'Ye seen wot?!" he growled.

"Navys be snoopin' over nigh da battery, yer Kap'unness!" squealed the gobbo. "Ise seed 'em wit me own eyes!"

'Ard 'Ead resisted the urge to pop those eyes out of the little gits head. For a moment or two. Damned if the little git didn't jump away before he could get it done.

"Baz'nok!" shouted 'Ard 'Ead.

There was a crash as a chair and possibly a table was upended as the big black orc rose to answer da Boss.

"Aye aye Boss!"

"Muster da ladz, Baz'nok," ordered da Boss. "Leave iz canceled. Roust dat git da Bomma, too."

'Ard 'Ead drained his tankard and rose from the bench he had just occupied. He strode to the doorway and peered out into the night. Fog and a light drizzle met his eye. Good, damn Law wouldn't see da ladz coming for them until it was too late. If Gork got it in hiz head to let it rain, then their damn powder wouldn't work neither.

Several loud crashes and a scream sounded from the taproom. Baz'nok was assembling the crew. Good.

The Penny Pinchers
Herr Captain Rothberger stood resolutely by the gun emplacement. It was a good vantage point to survey the surrounding crowd of reveling drunkards that called themselves Torktugans. There had been no trouble yet, but the night gave the crowd courage. The Captain shrugged, they would need courage if they attempted to interfere with his mission.

"Gentlemen turn this cannon on the crowd," the Captain ordered. "It is loaded isn't it?"

The Captain's standard bearer, his nephew Kleine Joseph, looked at the rain slicked barrel of the huge gun. He looked at the rest of the wet and miserable shore party nearby. Everyone was looking at him or looking away.

"Um, begging the Captain's pardon, sir, um," mumbled Little Joe. If only Adam were here, Joseph thought, Adam would know what to do.

"Permission to speak, Ensign."

"Its raining, um, sir."

"I am aware of the weather Ensign."

"The powder, sir, um, Captain, sir."

"The powder, Ensign Joseph?"

"The powder is wet, sir."

Several crossbow bolts slammed into the rampart of the gun emplacement. One wounded a crewman slightly. A woman screamed. The crowd that had been glowering at the Marienburgers suddenly decided it wanted to be elsewhere.

"Hold your line!" shouted Captain Rothberger over the din of the chaos. The Captain thought he had handled that rather well. Embarrassing, what?

Post Battle
Da 'Ard Knokkas were unprepared for the strength of the panicked crowd. The crowd and animosity destroyed their attack. Then the humies picked them off one by one.
A Nutta may have died. Its hard to tell.
Quote :
Haz'nok gets a smashed leg missing the next game, and Fut Slogga takes a deep wound also missing the next game.
Da 'Ard Knokkas--1 CP

The Penny Pinchers held the gun against the disorganized orc attacks. The cannon was duly impounded by the Monarchists.

Quote :
The next morning the sentries discovered Adam wondering the docks. What terrors he had seen? How he had escaped the monster's clutches? How he had covered the hundreds of miles between that cursed cove and Torktuga? Of these things Adam would not speak. The Priest of Mannann declared him free of the taint of chaos and blessed of Manann. Adam had returned.

The Champion Adam now hates all enemies and causes Fear.

The Long Pier
A variant of the Street Fight scenario

Mordheim - Pirates of the Karibbean 20060306_101951

"Make way fer da Boss!"

"Comin' through!"

Da 'Ard Knokkas were returning to their ship. Neither Haz'nok nor Fut Slogga could move under their own power, da panzies. A couple of gobbos had been pressed into carting them along on wheelbarrows. A shameful business all around. Why in 'Ard 'Ead's day the doc woulda cut that pin right off Haz'nok and Gork's yer uncle! And Fut! 'Ard 'Ead had nicked himself worse trimming a chin squig! 'Ard 'Ead glared at a lubber what didn't move out of his way quickly enough. The git shrank back into the crowd.

The zoggin' lubbers crowding the dock started to get stubborn. Something was pushing from the other direction. 'Ard 'Ead strained to see what the hold up was. He was in the mood for a good scrap. Those Navy ladz had got round him in the past, but it was because the gits wouldn't fight fair.

"Clear the docks! By order of the Imperial Ruling Council citizens are hereby commanded to clear this dock!"

'Ard 'Ead and the lads looked around for the source of the loud Reiklander voice. The crowd in front of them parted slightly and Baz'nok glimpsed a familar face.

"Avast! Itz dat daft humie from da Merchant place!" Baz'nok shouted. Pretty much everybody was shouting at this point.

"Get ye back ta Alter-Dorfer ye poxed git!" Baz'nok wasn't much good at insults but this seemed to do the trick. The poxed git upped and shot at old Baz with a crossbow. Would have hit Baz square except some lubber between them decided to move and took the bolt in the ear. Lubber looked pretty surprised!

After that it was every Jack Tar for himself. Those Navy lads from Reikland just turned thier archers loose. The crowd was jumping into the water, stomping on Navy lads, stomping on orcs. It was rare fun until some of those Navy gits showed up in a jolly boat and got the Knokkas in a crossfire. The Law just don't fight fair.

Post Battle
The 'Ard Knokkas all recovered from being shot full of crossbow bolts.
Da 'Ard Knokkas--1 CP

The Reiklanders recruited some more lads and got serious about increasing their firepower. There is talk of blunderbusses.

Down on the Docks II
A dispute between Clan Eshin, Da Sea Gitz and the Faithful

Mordheim - Pirates of the Karibbean PZO9013-Riddleport

The whole thing could have been avoided. The gods know how, but it could have been. Da Sea Gitz took the promise of a share in the profits of the cargo to guard a Nordlander ship. As if the shifty lubbers from Nordland would have paid up, but that's another story. Those skaven from Clan Eshin had a gudge against the Sea Gitz and inside information that the cargo was mostly poisons fresh from the jungles down south. Those Clan Eshin lads likes them poisons. Them arabs, they'd stolen a cargo from the orcs before and didn't see any reason they couldn't do it again. Big walking rats or no.

Then there was the storm. The weather's been right blustery all winter. It was raining buckets and then some, a regular spring blow and no mistake. Those Nordland guns were useless, the powder wouldn't light to save you no matter who you prayed to. The ship ought to have left the dock and pulled back out into the harbor. But you know those Nordlanders. The fool was going to sell his cargo today or know the reason why. Well part of the reason was that Borgut's lads were loading that cargo back on the ship faster than the crew could unload it. Borgut had him some ideas and outnumbered that Nordlander two to one. Told the humie there was big rats nosing around, might eat his cargo.

Borgut had his squigs hopping up and down the docks and damned if some huge rats didn't start scrapping with them. Borgut didn't think much of it, but it spooked the drunks from the Blowhole. The whole dockside turned into a rout. Lubbers ran right over a passle of skaven and a whole crew of arabs. Borgut was enjoying the sight of all the lubbers running around when arrows flew out of the rain and plucked a couple of ladz off the dock!

"Avast boyz! Deres lubbers come ta take da ship!" Borgut roared at his ladz.

Arrows were exchanged as the rain slacked off. Borgut and the larboard watch spied a couple of humie archers on the balcony of the old officers club. Borgut and the lads sent a volley back at them. One of the gits pitched off the rail into the street below. The ladz cheered and rushed the tavern. They had their way for a moment or two but humies were hiding all over those alleys. The boyz got cut off and cut up.

'Eadbasha da shaman led Gooba and the starboard watch against the skaven. The Nordlanders huddled on their ship and watched. 'Eadbasha was having a grand time of it when a gobbo ran past saying the Boss was down. That took the wind out of the boyz sails. 'Eadbasha tried to rally the lads to the ship, but Gooba was down and the gobbos were having none of it.

The skaven had got cut up by the orcs. The assassin tried to press on the ship but his minions melted away into the alleys and warehouses near the Blowhole.

The Arabyans crowded toward the docks. The Nordlanders had finally realized that getting back out into the harbor was the only way they would save thier cargo and their ship. But the Nordlanders were too slow getting under way. The Arabyans showered the ship with arrows and rushed up the boarding planks. The Nordlanders fought hard. Baibars and Atebeg both took wounds taking the ship, but the corsairs of Araby forced the Nordlanders to surrender.

Post Battle
The Sea Gitz lose a squig or two, but the rest of the lads recovered from their wounds. There was talk of a troll for hire, might be just talk.
Da Sea Gitz--1 CP

Clan Eshin took their dead and wounded with them when they fled. There are rumors that a hooded lubber with a bad accent and a tail bought a blunderbuss from old Adolph Gries later that day.
Clan Eshin--1 CP

The Faithful captured two of the Nordland crew and looted the body of another. The cargo yeilded the usual haul of food and beer. There was also a shipment of perfume from Lasheik and some exotic animals from the jungles. Al Kuds kept a parrot for amusement.
All of the Arabyan casualties recovered from their wounds, though Atebeg now suffers from Madness. Another frenzied corsair.
The Faithful--5 CP

Down on the Docks III
The Marienburgers face the Buccaneers

"Look lively lads!" Captain Rothberger hustled the shore party toward the harbor. Naturally the native Torktugans did everything to frustrate the hated Imperials progress. Still Rothberger had good information that the cargo of the Anne Dee, if not the ship itself, was stolen. The Captain meant to confiscate the ship and the stolen cargo and see the crew taken to the dock as pirates.

"Make way!"

"Disperse!" ordered the Captain. "I command you in the name of the Imperial Council."

"Ah, shut it mon!" cried a rogue from the crowd. A couple of crossbow bolts were shot out of the mob. One marine was wounded slightly. A mad scramble for cover followed the attack. The Torktugans cleared the harbor as fast as they could once shooting started.

BOOM!
The bow swivel of the Anne Dee added to the chaos.

"Forward men of Marienburg!" shouted Ensign Adam Rothberger. "Close with the bastards!" The Marienburgers took heart from the grim presence of thier miraculously returned champion. The shore party pressed forward toward the docks.

Post Battle
The Marienburgers fled once Adam fell. Adam recovered from his wounds, as did the rest of the casualties. The Penny Pinchers hire a Halfling Scout and add a Marksman with a blunderbuss.
Penny Pinchers--1 CP

The Buccaneers captured the Anne Dee and her cargo. As usual the hold held mostly food, although one valuable gem was looted. In addition the Buccaneers aquired a swivel gun.
Buccaneers--5 CP

Week 4
Five of us made it to game night, but GenCon and real life concerns meant we got started late and only had time for a couple of games total.

The Hulks
A Moonlit Skirmish in the Graveyard of Ships

Mordheim - Pirates of the Karibbean Pocimage6pa4

The Penny Pinchers
Captain Benjamin Rothberger silently cursed the rumors that had brought his expedition to these reefs. They had searched fruitlessly through the miles of shipwrecks until darkness had overtaken them far from his ship. Still he had glimpsed this cluster of wrecks just before sunset. The hulks looked too symetrically placed for random wrecks. They were evenly spaced as though they had been deliberately run aground here as a marker. It was possible that they had found the treasure at last. He ordered his small flotilla of three jolly boats toward the nearest wreck.

"Oh Captain, tis a duppy place this," cautioned Emer Furryfoot. "The natives say the place tis haunted by the souls of all the dead sailors."

"Natives always have such superstition Mister Furryfoot," replied the Captain from his place near the stern of the first boat. "I will thank you in the future not to mention them."

"Oh aye, Captain. Please forgive my wayward tongue," Emer apologized. "Tis only my hunger talking. Past my meal time it is, and dare I say it, yours as well sir."

"Mister Furryfoot! Silence!" ordered Captain Rothberger. "There is something..."

The night exploded in violence. A huge scaly thing lunged over the rail of the middle boat. Its wide toothy jaws closed shut on a marine and pulled the fellow back into the churning surf. Mister Furryfoot barely had time for an 'eek!'

At almost the same time someone in the third boat called "Ware the croc!"

Adam jumped to his feet and swung his halberd at the attacking reptile. He cried with joy as the blade bit home deep in the gaping maw, Then the enraged beast clamped down on the weapon and dragged the Ensign overboard and away into the night.

Zaggazz Shieldbenda
The big orc grinned into the darkness. The humies hadn't noticed them yet and now the gits were kinda occupied by the big saltwater crocs. Hur! He ordered the lads to row closer. Then the zoggin croc dragged that humie right toward his boat! Zaggazz figured what the hell, one less humie and a croc hide shield or two.

"Get 'em ladz!" Zaggazz roared. The orc's boat came allongside the thrashing croc. Blades flashed and the croc roared in pain and anger. The humie's body drifted away. One archer shot at the humie boat for good measure. Those humies were sure surprised.

Boom!
Zoggin' humies had a booma in their boat! One of the ladz was shot right off the bow. All the rest had bits of lead and such in their hides and the zoggin humies followed their shot by rowing straight at the orcs. The gits fell on the wounded orcs with a fury. Zaggazz left the dead croc drift away as he turned to fight the humies. One of the humie gits got in a lucky cut, sent Zaggazz over the side!

Zaggazz thrashed to the surface, spitting and gagging. He tried to get back aboard the nearest boat but some git chopped down on his hand. Zaggazz was some confused. Zoggin humies hadn't known he was there, now they had his boat! Something nudged his leg under the water. Zaggazz kicked out and swam toward a distant reef. Time to get out of the water before the sharks and crocs closed in.

Post Battle
The Sea Gitz had some fun bashin' crocs and humies but the cunnin' plan came unraveled with the first rout test or the second rout test. (Counting be hard.) One squig is eaten by a croc and a couple of orcs got rubbed out. On the plus side the Sea Gitz captured a humie rowboat and discovered an abandoned Scaled One temple. No troll is hired but lots of loot is spent recruiting orcs.
Sea Gitz--2 CP

The Penny Pinchers lost their best swordsman, Gunther, to a croc. Adam was feared dead but instead was revived by a re-roll. He must still miss a game do to injury. But he's not dead yet!
The Penny pichers lost one rowboat but captured one of the orc's to get even.
Penny Pinchers--3 CP
