| How can you fight dwarves in melee? With most warbands you will only slightly outnumber them, and their heroes are rediculous in melee. Give them 2 dwarf axes, blade master, a lucky charm or a rabbits foot, and the step aside combat skill and they are nearly unkillable. Parry 2 attacks, rerolling both, able to parry more than 1 attack in total, AND being able to parry on an equal to or greater than roll. Then give them step aside for a 5+ dodge, and a 4+ lucky charm and they are nearly impossible to beat. I need help with this, as my friend will be getting a dwarf warband soon, and I can't see how my beastmen are going to fight them. Speed will be to my advantage, but what good is that when his heroes are near unkillable. Outnumbering him won't work as I can only get 3 more guys than him, and 2 or less if he starts hiring mercenaries. Help | |

| Step 1: Waaagh! Step 2: Use da choppa! Step 3: Use da uvva choppa! Step 4: Repeat.
Really the best way I found is to try to isolate and jump one or two at a time. You will often get counter charged, but hopefully you can hit them hard enough on initial charge to make them start needing rout tests. Beastmen will have a large speed advantage which should help. The goal is to isolate them so you can knock down or stun them then take them OOA automatically. Hard to Kill does not help stunned or knocked down models in melee much.

| Are you playing starting warband to starting warband or do you have experienced warbands against his starters?
If you play a campaign from the beginning you have the advantage of speed, numbers and toughness. His shooting will be less effective against your numbers, your attacks will be more effective against him. Make the most of it.
If he's starting from scratch against your experienced warband, beat him up! Be mean and bypass meat shields, if you can, to hit his heroes. This includes hitting a beardling with an ungor and sending heroes to overwhelm heroes.

| Well my beastmen will be more experienced, but I don't want to be a jerk lol.
I am not as frustrated as I was before reading the dwarf rules, as most of my heroes have 3 attacks each right now, and 3 of my heroes have the lightning reflex skill. This will make his counter charges less effective, and for the most part I can still get my attacks through, it is just a bit harder than I would like.
Plus once he gets knocked down my beastmen have little trouble putting them out. Thanks for the advice about trying to hit 1 or 2 at a time, I think I can accomplish this by throwing 3 or so models at one side of his band and keeping my hounds in the way of a counter charge on my heroes. This along with placing my guys with lightning reflexes right behind my intercepting hounds means those dwarves that do get through will have a tough time fighting my faster beastmen.
Overall I am most concerned about his noble and his 2 troll slayers. Those guys are nasty on the charge, I will need to cut them down before they get their attacks back.

| Also I have 1 question I could post here rather than making another post.
If a model is knocked down by a shooting model, and then shot by another. A) will he have to roll on the injury chart again? Or B) will the model be taken out of action if he is hit and wounded?
Thanks in advance. | |

| Ranged combat always uses the injury chart from my understanding. | |

| The special rule for CC represents your kind hearted friends gently easing the suffering of their fallen foes. Usually by ripping their throats out or curb stomping them into the flagstone! It is a coup-de-grace system. Not that you actually are taking more damage simply for lying on the ground. | |

| Remember that you can only parry at all if they are less than double your strength. So if you have someone with S4 and a DHW, or Mighty Blow and a Halberd, that is S6 and unparryable by anyone S3 or less. If you have S4, DHW, Mighty Blow, and either Dark Venom or +1S from a diving charge then you are S8 and unparryable by anyone S4 or less. | |

| Ok I really could have used this lol, because I lost 3 hounds in 1 turn from shooting because he downed them and then shot and wounded and took them out of action because we misunderstood the rules. This will allow me to take a much bigger beating from his shoot . Thanks for the information it will help me really put the hurt on his reiklanders. | |

| Alright I had my game against that dwarf warband and it was not nearly as scary as I was making it out to be. I dropped 3 heroes and 3 henchmen and he voluntarily routed when his turn came around. Yay for multiple charges using hounds and heroes | |
