| On saturday, I've been to a concert of Corvus Corax, playing Cantus Buranus, their remake of the Carmina Burana.
When listening to it, I thought it would be the right music for the dramatic battle against the shadowlord himself, he slaying all the poor heroes until noone is left;)

| Diablo music (especially the first one!) Metallica - Orion Metallica - Call of Ktulu Metallica - Fade to Black Black Mountain - Stormy High (Black Mountain is a really great band from Vancouver BC, reminicent of Led Zeppelin, although a little more melodic, less bluesy) Black Mountain - Queens Will Play Black Mountain - Wucan Breaking Benjamin - Home Coldplay - Viva la Vida Coldplay - Cemeteries of London Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms Eagles - Desperado Faunts - M4 P2 (This song was featured in the end credits of Mass Effect, AMAZING game, AMAZING song) Gary Jules - Mad World (Featured in Donnie Darko and the Gears of War commercial) Interpol - Pioneer to the Falls Jesse Cook - Virtue (Amazing flamenco guitar player) Jethro Tull - Locomotive Breath Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song (Obviously ) Led Zeppelin - Black Dog Led Zeppelin - Battle of Evermore Pretty much anything by Led Zeppelin actually... Libertines - Time for Heroes Luis Bacalov - Summertime Killer Mike Oldfield - Five Miles Out (Check him out for tons of really cool eclectic instrumental albums, with some Celtic influence) Muse - Hysteria Muse - Butterflies and Hurricanes Nine Inch Nails - Great Destroyer Nine Inch Nails - Head Down Nine Inch Nails - Zero Sum Nine Inch Nails - God Given Nine Inch Nails - Another Version of the Truth (Kronos Quartet and Enrique Gonzalez Muller) Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al Pearl Jam - Once Pearl Jam - Even Flow Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill Peter Gabriel - Games Without Frontiers ( ) Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight Pixies - Where is my Mind? (Easily one of my favourite songs ever) Pretty much anything by Pink Floyd Procul Harum - Conquistador Queens of the Stone Age - Burn the Witch Queens of the Stone Age - Sick Sick Sick Robert Dougan - Clubbed to Death (guaranteed you'll recognize this song, most overused soundtrack song ever) Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the Devil Rolling Stones - Before They Make Me Run (good for Skaven or Goblins ) Pretty much any of Carlos Santana's older stuff (not the new crap with pop stars) Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight Tonight Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun Thom Yorke - And it Rained All Night Tom Cochrane - White Hot White Stripes - Seven Nation Army Wolfmother - White Unicorn (and pretty much any other song by them as well) Wow... I kind of got carried away there. Sorry . And those are only songs out of the playlist I'm listening to at the moment. If I went through my entire collection of over 6,000 songs, I'd be here all night. | |

| Well generally when I've played with my mates back home it was 6 of us doing a campaign so music was pretty much under control of whoever wasn't playing at that moment John, the Skavenite brought plenty of Black Metal, Goat the Chaos/Possessed player, brough Iron Maiden and other 'classic' Heavy Metal, Big Joe (who basically looks like a viking) played Norsemen/Pit Fighters and broght Amon Amarth, the Bezerker etc. Andy the host and Dwarf/Orc player played a lot of new cheese-metal like Dragonforce, Mark played the Undead and liked Coldplay (which makes sense on too many levels ), and I the Ostlanders/Marienburger player is the Mike Patton groupie so Faith No More/Mr. Bungle/Fantomas/Peeping Tom usually got listened too. Never really thought about atmospheric music really, as generally the set-up was two people playing while the others watch and comment (generally offering purposefully crap advice, inventing detailed henchmen backstories to put them off ec.) or play video games/watch films/listen to music and get a bit drunk. I think we tit about too much to have an 'atmospheric' element. Unless you count taking a shot of whiskey everytime my Ostlander Ruffian drunkenly stumbled into combat as immersive roleplaying. | |

| Few people look at the much more grandiose themes floating around. I find Arom Katachurian's Masquerade Suite epic when playing it works in any online game where you are killing other people also, and for convenience here's a link: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=wb9a2ZMxYDASuch a Marienburger theme if ever there was one. | I usually listen to music suited to the warband I'm playing with. Dwarfs - Iron Maiden (ish) Chaos Dwarfs - Lordi, Kamelot Skaven - Haven't found anything that fits them, but Les Claypool is the current favorite.
And of course, I get to hear everything Sigor Ros has done.

| Try the soundtrack to Van Helsing. Uneven movie, but great music. Hellboy soundtrack Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Nights soundtracks. Plant of the Apes was interesting. Especially against the Skaven. | |

| I personally tend to avoid anything that feels "modern". That means, no electric guitars! Also, no vocals, as I prefer the music to speak for itself, especially when playing a game of Mordheim where a heavy metal song about slaughtering villagers is great for an evilw arband, it wouldnt fit a Sister of Sigmar player. (I also just have grown very tired of all heavy metal genres, as it seldom re-invents itself). I LOVE the Conan Barbarian soundtrack (can be found on Spotify), as it is a little dark and brooding at the same time as being great background music. Of course, LoTR is good, and I must say thanks for the idea of playing Baldurs Gate OST! Going to make a playlist of that before the next round. And Warcraft 2 OST is amongst the best composed music tracks in gaming history, and I can still hum every single tune by heart, and never tire (the number one videogame track is, however, Wicked Child, form the first NES Castlevania game, played on the third level.) |

| Depends... sometimes soundtracts or what ever Scott has on his computer. If I was running games : Metal (Thrash , Death Metal , Doom or Black Metal) or Hardcore Punk (Crust ,D-Beat ,Anarcho-Punk or some Grind).
PS.. Metal isn't Geeky...well maybe some of the Power/Prog metal is, but not the rest.
All Hail Metal & Punk!!!!

| No, metal isnt geeky, and some "Metallers" I know are amongst the kindest ppl I know, I just cant connect, emotionally, to the music anymore. Anyway, I have found that whatever you put on, you forget to listen anyway, as the game draws you in. That should be a good thing |

| Folk and classical music, also renaissance and medieval stuff for Warhammer.
A good song for Warboss_Kurgan's Orc Pirates would be the English 'Barbaree' (sung by Peter Bellamy on the Both Sides Then album, Amazon has it) which contains the lines:
"Oh, we tied 'em up by twos, And we tied 'em up by threes, And we flung 'em in the sea Off the coast of Barbaree"
Hautbois and other medieval groups do good, suitable music too, consider this from L'Homme Armee:
"Find a good strong coat of mail Perhaps you might prevail Beware, beware the man at arms
Waking early, watching late Bar the door and lock the gate Beware, beware, the man at arms"
EDIT:
In historical wargaming, I've played Spanish Civil War games to a soundtrack of Republican and Nationalist songs (such as La Quinta Brigada, Cara al Sol and Jarama), WW2 games to the Panzerlied and the Soviet National Anthem, Vietnam to a Doors CD ("This is the end, my beautiful friend, the end..."), and American Civil War games to the tune of Dixie, John Brown, and others.
Adds flavour.
In SF, I favour plainsong (for the Imperium in 40K) or electronica, trance, that sort of thing.

| I know there is a swedish roleplaying society that makes music. They are called... oh, remember remember... Za'Frumi I think. Its a band that sort of tells the story of a band of Orcs, and they sing in orcish too, which is kinda cool. I have never managed to get my hands on them though... |
