[Tutorial] How to make candles

I'd like to show you a simple and quick way to make tiny candles for use in your scenery, on your scenic bases etc.

Tools and materials needed:

A) Ear sticks - I suggest using the white ones - they simply don't need to be painted.



B) PVA glue - I also use a toothpick to put it precisely where I want.



C) A floor brush - or something similar with black bristle.



D) Diagonal cutter - or scissors to get the stuff cut into scraps.

1) Cut ear sticks into short fragments (approximately 3-10 mm).



2) Do the same with the black bristle (the fragments could be somewhat longer).



3) Attach the ear sticks fragments to your scenery (PVA glue should do it fine) and wait until the glue is cured.

4) Using the toothpick place a drop of PVA glue on top of each ear stick fragments. Firstly, push some glue inside the hollow interior of the stick. Secondly, shape some PVA stains on the stick surface.




5) Put bristle scraps inside the sticks (the PVA glue previously pushed into its interior will hold it).



6) Using, again, PVA glue make some wax-looking stains near the bases of your candles.

Lit candles?

As you've noticed above, I've only shown how to make extinguished candles. Unfortunately I don't have any pics of lit candles, but the theory is simple. Firstly, do some extinguished candles following the instructions above. Secondly, take a small tear-shaped piece of modelling putty and put it on the candle's wick to create a flame. Wait for the whole thing to cure. Paint appropriately. Finished .

Candles are one of those little touches that say Mordheim...or W.F.B. for that matter. AND your candle making technique is a FINE method for turning out hordes of the beasties. Thanks MUCHO for the post.
