Painting up some ogres for a maneater warband for my son. Progress this far:

VERY NICE WORK! I especially like the skin tones, the striped pants, & the way you did the wood...not necessarily in that order. The Gnoblar on the Ninja's base is VERY COOL. I'll bet your son LOVES these Guys. WELL DONE!

Two questions: What are your plans for the bases? AND...how old is your boy?

Thanks! My son, ten years old, has only seen one of these ogres finished, but he was quite happy with that one - and he should be, since he has decided on colour scheme, skin tone, model assembly and so on.

The bases will get some stones, and dirt, and small patches of grass. Other that that it's kind of up to my sons imagination, or good ideas from the forum.

Thanks. Actually, it has not been until the last six months or so, that I myself have been satisfied with my results.

It's a pleasure to play good games with your kids, and it's really good for their intellectual progress as well. Check out this old thread for a little discussion of the topic. He's not too fond of painting, and seeing how it demands a good deal of development of motor skills, I feel it can wait. He has painted a saurus warrior though, that's far above the quality of my first attempts...

Another ogre - the Pit Fighter model!

A hired sword for the maneaters - halfling scout! He's been devoured several times by the ogres, but somehow they always manage to hire a new one...

THe models look pretty cool, I really like how you painted the flames of the gnoblar sitting on the leadbelcher youngblood THe skin tone is pretty neat, as well. Did you do a full conversion on the centaur or just a head swap?

Glad you like them Eliazar! My son seems to think they're fun to play, and they do look pretty neat in-game.

Re: flames - mrtn strongly urged me to paint fire with the lighter colours first, and the darker last (ie from white via light yellow, yellow, orange, red, dark red to black) since this is more like how fire actually looks. I'm not used to it yet, but I think it works.

The chaos centaur is an old metal centigor, from which I sawed off the face (just as brutal as it sounds). I then procedeed to glue the face from a marauder horseman onto the remaining centigor head, and greenstuffed some hair for the mane. Also I added some throwing axes and a chain.

More ogres painted! First off, the wonderful over the top tyrant conversion made by drakkol. Hopefully I've done it justice with my painting.

VERY NICELY DONE! The group photo looks like a family portrait. Our Man, drakkol, does WONDERFUL WORK; you did a FINE JOB bringing t to life.

Your painting is better than mine...you caught what i meant fot this tyrant. I love red colour so...it's exactly the one i'd chose for his pants. I like very much your use of metals...how they're dirty enough to add details without sculpting them. You gave him life!

The group shot helps understanding proportions better than my pics.

Thx, the model was a joy to paint. I studied it for three weeks before painting it, just to be sure to get the details right. Red pants are great. The purple in the gaps does not come through well in these pics, sadly, it's much more vibrant irl. When it comes to ogres and metals, I prefer the metals to be dirty more than rusty - though ogres are not famous for their wit it would still be stupid to charge into battle with rusty equipment...

You're right about rusty equipment. Using it is a nurgle's thing.

I agree on the rusty weaponry: Ogres, Orc(k)s, Dwarves, &, to a lesser degree, Goblins are billed as being devoted to war; that being the case, it doesn't seem right to leave the tools of their trade out in the rain...you can ask any working carpenter about the advisability of this concept.
