ORKS IN SPACE! Update: 04/26/11

THEY CAME FROM THE WARPed mind of yours truly!

This is, in a vague & rambling way, an introduction to the LOVELY photos Our Own Mordheimer took of my Swizzle Stick Lads. For those with INQUIRING MINDS &/OR AN APPALLING LACK OF JUDGMENT,
the Lads derive the title of Swizzle Stick Lads from their humble
origins: They were a gift, partially to induce moi to get into 40K &
partially to assuage a guilty conscience, from an erstwhile
patron/acquaintance . When I got them they were caked..."painted" would NOT give an adequate description ...in paint with swizzle sticks stuck on the ends of their "shootas" in a TRULY POOR attempt to turn them into "big shootas". Being a bloody minded Old Coot I improved(?) them with my sniper shooter conversions.

THEY ARE HERE!,
whenever Himself has nothing better to do with his time, are the first
few of The Lads. The remainder will be off for photography early next
week AND WILL THEN BE INFLICTED ON THE UNWARY!

Looking pretty good. I actually use spacemarine shoulder pads on my orks as well!

Thanks, shamks...I thought you might get a kick out of the Lads. I came up with the looted shoulder pads as a sort of revenge for some GOD AWFUL Space Nazis, aka Marines, I did on commission AND learned to TRULY HATE...using the extra shoulder pads in the livery of the offending Chapter was my way of getting even...mostly.

Thanks MUCHO, Mo!! The Lads are a case of "Necessity being the Mother of Invention"...they fit in the "Mother" category somewhere.
I buried Mordheimer in minis to photograph; SO...more should start appearing in the next few days/weeks/months/whenever CRUEL REALITY stops doing a hurt dance on Himself.

I'm truly a fan of all your work! but these guys are amazing!!

What puzzles me the most, is how you get those highlights (stripes) the way you do so that it looks awesome!!!

The conversions made me smile, as they are ridiculously orky

The highlighting, at least for moi, is just a matter of looking for the places that should be lighter & making them so. Adding highlight colors while the darker shade is still wet makes the lighter shades blend in less garishly.

While the designer Guys at G.W. like to portray their settings as dark & sinister, which smacks too much of reality for moi, the feel of the place(s) to moi is more Tim Burtonish & appeals to my sense of the absurd. AND there is NOTHING quite so absurd/silly as Goblins & Orc(k)s.

ANOTHER BIT OF SILLINESS: Having gotten a bit beat up in transit due to the less than gentle administrations of our Postal System, Over Kill required a bit of fixing up [which Mordheimer did rather nicely] before photographing.

The flame is epoxy paste teased out over a wire frame. Epoxy paste is similar to two part epoxy cement, but lacks the adhesiveness of the cement.

(Although I cannot talk, The Grinnin' Boyz have yet to show their painted selves. Soon Deaf, I promise.)

Very nice pictures! They really underline how nicely painted the miniatures are and show the colours way better.

Thanks, Amigo...glad you liked the Lads. I agree the new batch of photos are better than the first...much as I liked the originals; the colors are truer, less garish...I think Himself got a new camera.

Over the last thirty or so years most everything I've painted has been sold, done on commission, or given to friends. I've become inured to having my Little Horrors disappear...the creation has become more important than the possession. What I make on sales always seems to be less than what the buyers get on resale...c'est la vie, eh?!
