| Things were looking grim for the inhabitants of Stoepe, a small hamlet in the deep forests of Ostland. For three years in a row the harvests had failed to produce any decent crops and it didn’t look like this year was going to be any different. Most of the young men had left the seek their fortune in the cities or joined the military, you usually don’t get your pay but at least there’s daily bread on the table! In fact there were only three families left (who were closer tied than decency allowed to admit) They had just buried the last woman of the village aside from Molly, the old hag who runs the Lonely Nut tavern where the last desperate dirt farmers and hunters of the village sat feeling sorrow for themselves, when a band of ravening mad flagellants entered the village. They scourged themselves and screamed tales about the doomed City of Mordheim, of which these ignorant villagers had off course never heard of, and pleaded for the villagers to join them and help cleanse the city of it’s vile heretical inhabitants. Off course Gilbert, the elder of the three families was sane enough to refuse any such proposal and the flagellants continued on their way. Two days and two nights had passed after which Gilbert made up his mind! They would all go down to Mordheim and test their luck,…. After all, they had nothing to lose! this is a WIP blog for my upcoming Ostlander warband for my Elder i'm gonna use this model: he's allready waiting for a paint job! This is François, he is a Ruffian. He fights using his empty bottles to smash and stab his opponents (counts as two clubs). He claims that a Marienburger has stolen his sword and since then he has a profound hatred of all Marienburgers! He stubbornly refuses to belief that he sold his sword to a Marienburger merchant for more beer and since he threatend to bash some heads (with his bottles) his mates left it with that.. this model from the frenzied mob is going to be my ruffian And this is the current state of my WIP Priest of Taal (sorry for the blurry picture) more to come... | |

| LOVE, the idea for francois And since you found a great model, greenstuffing will be few and easy. The priest looks very promosing.... Isn't the armour and clothing of your elder a bit too elaborate ? Since your guys come from a town with famine and poverty ?! Keep up the good stuff. | |

Yes, that's true but the Ostlanders have the following special rule (and I quote) Nouveau Riche: Ostlanders are almost universally poor. Many Ostlanders never see coined money in their entire life and those that do are often overcome with giddiness at the mere sight of whealth. As a result, Ostlanders MUST sell all of their wyrdstone (unless they have more than 8 pieces ...) after every battle and after hiring new warriors (...) at least 50% of the remaining gold MUST be spent on a single item of gear. This means that Ostlander Warbands will often be composed of a dozen men wearing muddy peasant garb with one member wearing gold-inlaid heavy armour and another carrying a double barreled hunting rifle from the finest forges of HochlandI think my Elder represents this rule quite good, and apart from that it's a great model that i'd love to use! ps: I don't think I'll do any GS on François, I like the model the way it is and allthough I agree with your vision that Mordheim models should always carry some gear with them it is a fact that François is a drunk, and drunks usually don't care to much about changing clothes and usually just crawl into a corner and sleep with their colthes on so he don't really need much equipment. And since he sold his sword (the model carries an empty scabbard) I think he would at least have sold all his other gear before that. in fact the guys only keep him around because he's family! pps: thanks

| The Nouveau Riche rule was abandoned. The newer version of the warband in the Mordheim Annual gave them the "Self Sufficient" special rule. They can't hire any Hired Swords except ogres. | |

| The version I have features both these rules, I wouldn't mind if the Niveau rich rule would go though thanks for letting me know! | |

| Very nice idea for Priest of Taal! Looks very wild.
The Elder model is brilliant. I will use it as captain for my Marienburger warband, but I think it's good for Elder, too.

| Ah ok I wasn't aware of the nouveau riche special rule (abandoned or not) And i didn't mean greenstuff for Francois specifically (since the model and fluff matches perfectly) but greenstuff work in general (priest for example) So in short : forget the previous post and remember : - Quote :

| Update Time! I finished the Priest and a Blood Brother: My Priest of Taal is called Frederick, he is Gilbert's older brother. As a young lad Frederick was allways out playing in the woods. At the age of 15, on one of his many trips through the dense woods he had a sacred revelation and decide to dedicate his life to Taal. He left the village and lived in the woods. Off course life is dangerous in the woods, there roamed many wild beasts and even Beastmen and thus he became a strong and skillfull warrior and hunter. It was often Frederick who first warned the villagers of the presence of Beastmen or other treaths, giving them the opportunity to prepare, and it was often he who led the defence in the heat of the action. When Frederick came to the village it was either to warn the village of an approaching danger or to trade his "home"-brewn ale. Frederick lives of the hunt and fruits of the forests and off his self-brewn "forest" ale. An ale that is very popular with the villagers but he seldom comes to the village to trade some. It is said that this ale makes a person younger and indeed, for although Frederick is allready 65 years old he still has the looks and the physical fitness of a 35 year old. a close up of his headgear This is Oswald. He is the head of the second family of the village. he has lived all his life next to Gilbert, just as their parents did before them. They grew up together and have been best friends for all their life. It is rumoured that he and Gilbert are closer than they suspect since Oswald was born about nine months after his father had died and it is well known that his mother and Gilbert's father could get along very well... the rest of the band is still in it's WIP phases: three henchmen (kin): 2 Jaegers: the brothers Lars and Ulrich Ullrich by himself: the other Blood Brother: he is Frederick and Gilbert's youngest Brother. On his right arm will come his shield. he is armed with sword, shield and (later) Light armour. Yes, he is a leftie (left handed person): in a world full of mutants and monsters I didn't think a leftie would look ou of place And last is a Elf Ranger Hired Sword. Not that I can use her, I play ostlanders and Beastmen, but just because I had the parts laying around.. Hope you like | |

| Yep there are many dangerous critters living in the woods...back on Long Island these are mostly homeless Guys & teenagers sneaking a beer . VERY COOL & in character looking War Band you have in the works. The background material enhances & gives depth to what will be a FINE LOOKING group of rogues. I for one will be following your thread with interest...hopefully this won't put you off on the project. | |

| INDEED! Great work! Your green stuff skills are good as well but I would try and make the mask on your taal priest a little longer at the sides and back, or even better make the mask look like the skin from a beastman's head! Oh and I love the fact you used the horns fron the Bret Knight box! Have a good one dwi | |

It can be our secret...don't tell anyone else. The Lads look PRETTY SNAZZY! With the present rage in muted colors, it is pleasant to see some vivid shades. I like the way the Death Wizard's purple shawl/cowl matches the purple roses. VERY NICE WORK!

keep it up. | |

| Thanks for the comments, with all these compliments on the priest it seems I should have to paint him soon. I've never seen the series so all similarities with herne are pure accidental. in fact it was the skyclad druid from warlord games that inspired me. Since the original warlord model was "true 28mm" (though It is even small for true 28 scales) he wouldn't fit in with the rest of the band and I needed decided to make my own - Spoiler:
Ps: I did see the 2006 Robin hoo series from BBC and just LOVED it!
