| Im tryin to make some scenery so my wife and i can duke it out with the wife and would like to know what the general concensus is on the size of doors and windows and what height should the second floor be from the ground. any input would be great. i think my test building is too short but it might just be me. i have the second floor 2 inches from the first and the door is 1.5 inches tall. any input from some of you master building makers (cianty cough cough....) would be great. thanks | |

| I use inches for all my measurements due to my self-imposed boycott of the metric system. For my buildings, 1 floor = 2 inches. Doors are usually 1 3/4" tall and 1 1/4" wide. So far everything seems to scale well.
I'm thinking a 1 1/2" tall door would just be a tad too low for some models to fit.

| I use 2" floors, but sometimes a vary the height of the ground floor because it is always hard to reach.
I try to use the rules a guide, so a 2" climb will get you up one story, and a full 4" will get you up 2 stories.
Be warned that 2" is very tight for anything other than man-sized models with modest weapons and poses.

Be warned that 2" is very tight for anything other than man-sized models with modest weapons and poses. I also find the ground floors need to be a bit larger, humm thought I was the only one. Typically I make my floor to ceiling height for the ground floor about 65mm, and each floor after that is about 60mm. Windows vary in sizes greatly, but I generally try to make them start no more than about 20-25mm from the flooring. So the models can look out. With doors I generally tend tomake them so that the 25mm bases can get in or stand in the doorway so I tend to make them 35-40mm wide. Height depends on style, rounded, arched etc. But for the regular rectangle shape I make them about 50mm. Which gives me enough space on the 65mm ground floor to have a good 15mm gap between the top of the door and the begining of the next floor. I always build with "Scale man" aka an unpainted human miniature with a large sword. This lets me test fit heights, widths etc. Once I worked out all these measures that I was happy with. I took a thick piece of card and cut out door shapes, window shapes. Marked floor heights etc. Now when I build it goes much quicker as I just use the template mark out the window / door and cut. "Scale man" at work testing some stairs. I actually considered painting him at one point like a ruler :p
