| So I have been going back and forth when building stuff as to how high I should make the distance from the floor to celings on my buildings. I want them to be playable and easy to reach into, but at the same time look like they are in scale. What I have been leaning towards recently is 65mm from the floor to the celing and 5mm for the height of the floor itself. What are you guys using? | |

| I will want to buy a troll in my warband at some point and it just wouldn't be fun if it's too big to fit anywhere. I've come to the conclusion to (at least try) to build everything so all my minis fit, which doesn't always work though, but still do realistic sized doors and windows. | |

| Well... 10mm is about 2 feet and period buildings would have ceilings between 8 and 10 feet (at most--family dwellings might only have 6 or 7 foot ceilings). 10 foot ceilings would be about 50mm, but you need to add a bit to account for your models bases about 4mm more. 65mm is about 12 foot ceilings which I'd think is the upper limit to stay in scale. So if you go 60mm, then 5mm for floor and floor beams you ought to be fine. It's not the ceiling height that will throw your scale off, it's the details that will. Doors need to be the right size, windows need to be at the right height. So, in short, 65mm is a little oversized, but probably plays better than the 50mm-ish height that's more to scale. EDIT: Here's a tutorial for a Mordheim-y building. The builder uses the 50mm height and the scale seems pretty good to me. | |

| Damn I must have a very perverted mind when I first thought of something completely else when I saw the topic name. Guess I'm just that childish. Sorry.
Yeah, I'll go back to the shadows now.

| I use the 60mm floor to ceiling size also. It looks right AND a factor to take into consideration is that a gamer has to fit his/her/its oftimes ham fisted hand into the structure. | |

| 3 inches height for the walls enough room to be in scale imo and enough to get hands in where required. One small note is make the destroyed sections slightly larger than you normally think is ok to amke sure hand can get in, nothing worse than having to use 2 fingers to fiddly put models on ground _________________ | |

| Yeah I used to use a 55mm floor to celing with a a 5mm floor thickness, but find it a bit to tight for minis that have anything raised overhead, or when trying to create floor plans that are actually playable ..trying to get minis in and out. Genereally speaking I like to make my buildings 1 piece, but I guess making the levels removeable would be the other solution. | |

| We used a fairly standard 3" between each floor. Mainly for hand-access but also so the walkways between buildings would be level. - perfesser wrote:

The danger of looking too much at "period" buildings is that people used to be shorter! Low ceilings to us would not have been quite so low when the average man was 6" shorter!

| I think it's funny we are disusing period accurate architecture in a fantasy setting. Yes the warhammer world is based on real life, but let your imaginations run things, as well as playability.
I went for 2" stories, which is about 50mm, simply because it made sense for figure movement and climbing rules. I can say it is hard to get hands in some terrain so planning is importent!

It's somewhat part of the 'realism' though. If the ceilings are too high, it doesn't seem right. Of course, I do think it's much more important to make doors, windows, floor planks, stair cases etc to size as these will be what the eye will make comparisions to. - Pathfinder Dubstyles wrote:

Yeah, full inches help with climbing rules--but I would think that you should probably house-rule all storeys to be full inches for climbing purposes anyhow as it makes life simplier in especially in cases where measuring might not be so easy.

| It is funny we do discuss "proper" size for a fantasy game but as noted above 2 inches or 50cm(I am assuming from the post above) seems good but I would make a test building to make sure that is good for you as I have made some terrain with this in mind and wished I had given myself another inch of space. | |
