Skavenblight's Wood Elves

Ok, this may be a shock for some people, but I started my adventure with Warhammer Fantasy Battle few weeks ago.
I never thought I will, but my husband and his brother decided to play WHFB because they have so many minis for Dwarfs and O&G armies. I had no models for Wood Elves, but I always loved WE miniatures, so I started to complete the army.

I started with treekin, because I wanted to make them by myself. I don't like GW models. So I used bits from dryads and ogre heads, and lots of modelling putty

(I know that most of you don't know Polish, so I will explain the first picture - yes, the tree from Pocahontas WAS one of my inspirations )

More WHFB army than warband... I'd even play Mordheim (or better Empire in Flames, because the ruined city is no good place for elves), but I know no good rules for WE warband. Maybe because of this I chose this army, it's something different than "dirty guys looking for treasures in dangerous city of the damned"

I use the War Bands rule from White Dwarf; it's for 500pt. WHFB armies with elements of the Mordheim rules...sort of the best of both worlds...sort of.

Love the treekin! I'm not a huge fan of GW's current treekin or treemen, either, although I do like some of the older models they did back in the 4th/5th ed. days.

I like the "Grandmother Willow" reference, and like Deaf I think the owl is really cool.

nice sculpt! the painting is excellent and the owl looks like a real owl! that's an accomplishment!

I don't like treekin models from GW, so I sculpted my own minis. I also plan to make my own treeman. I love Treewoman from Ultraforge Miniatures (
http://www.coolminiornot.com/store/shopimages/products/extras/treewoman_2.jpg) but for me the model is too expensive.

But today, the 2nd treekin. I hope you like it, although the pics are not so good (we had few rainy days in Poland and the daylight was bad).

Looks great! The attention to detail is superb, especially the little wood-sprite and the vine curling up his leg.

VERY COOL! I've got to point this thread out to Fearless Leader Tom, a Fellow Tree Hugger. VERY WELL DONE!

I started to paint my dryads. In Wood Elf Batallion are 12 of them, so I painted the first 4 (it would be boring to paint all the 12 at once) I love the models from 6 edition!

LOVE the three-eyed treekin, and the dryads came out very nicely as well. Between the glowy eyes and the atumnal colors, they're much more sinister-looking than most wood elf armies!

Thanks Myntokk! I like to paint red, orange and yellow - so I chose those colors, although most WE armies are green. I hope it will look also very nice on the elves, not only tree-like forest spirits

More dryads!

EXCELLENT STUFF! You have a real flair for the Faerie Folk. VERY WELL DONE!
BTW red, orange, & yellow are my favorite colors also...Great Minds & all that sort of stuff.

Thanks Al, and thank you, Tom! Your opinion is especially important to me, because your army was one of my inspirations. I chose Wood Elves of course because of models (and of course because I couldn't play elves in Mordheim). It is indeed the coolest WHFB army, when you look on miniatures - dryads! spellsingers! Even unpainted they look great.

VERY, VERY NICE! The colors are BEAUTIFULLY in character, the freehand work is EXQUISITE , AND the bases are SPECTACULAR...VERY WELL DONE!

I wish it was freehand... but those leaves were on the cloak from the begin

OOPS...well you brought them out WONDERFULLY!

And again you go apenuts on the color use and totally make it work! definetaly an outstanding piece of work... again... great seeing your stuff.
One thing I do wish to criticise, the poses - seeing as you put one foot on the logs, they seem to tip backwards, if I may urge you to slightly convert their legs or body so they seem to be more balanced, you will definetely pull it off!

great work on the bases... how did you create the water effect??
